Scream 2 (1997)

Continuity mistake: When Maureen and Phil arrive in the theater, immediately at the beginning before the camera even gets fully in focus you can see by the door a blonde girl putting on the Ghostface hood, with her partner helping her. The camera cuts away for a second, and in the next wide shot you see her repeating the gesture. (00:01:40)

Scream 2 (1997)

Other mistake: The movie is supposed to happen "a couple years" after the previous (words of the moviegoer behind Jada Pinkett) but the current date shown at the theater says 1997, and Scream was set in September 1996 (calendar at Stu's house distinctly visible when he brings Sid's dad out of the closet).

Scream (1996)

Revealing mistake: When Sidney in Ghostface costume stabs Billy with the umbrella, you can see the squared shape of a protection pad under Skeet Ulrich's shirt (which she misses the second time around, famously prompting a genuine scream of pain from the actor). (01:39:55)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: Gale falls back on the unconscious Dewey after Billy kicks her. Her jacket is draped across the chest touching the white button of her vest. When Billy gets on his knees by her though, the jacket is fully open. (01:37:30)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: Once Billy is done slashing his accomplice, he points the knife at him and tells him what to do; the knife hand keeps changing position between shots. (01:36:00)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: When Billy tells Sidney that her mother is the reason his parents split, he's pointing the knife at her, but not anymore in the reverse shot. (01:33:00)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: Look at Matthew Lillard once Billy says "What's the matter, Sidney? Looks like you've seen a ghost." He's scratching his cheek, but in the next shot his arm is down his side. (01:31:15)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: In the scene at the TV truck, the killer's knife is blood-free even after slicing the cameraman's throat and stabbing Sidney, if you look at him when he tries to open the door and when he gets in. When he shakes his fist at Sidney for running away though, the knife is all bloodied up. (01:24:00)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: When the killer slits Kenny's throat, Sidney in the background stifles a shout with one hand on her mouth, both hands in the next shot. She opens her hands but her right hand is still glued to her face in a further cut. (01:23:40)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: When Kenny the cameraman spots the front door open and turns around to look again at the truck, Sidney before the camera cuts away is turning all the way to look at the monitor as well, but in the next shot she's still facing Kenny. (01:23:35)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: Plummeting from the roof onto a boat, Sid causes a wetsuit (or a similar kind of fabric) to fall off. In the closer shot, the cloth is much more entangled than in the other view - look at the pink band. (01:21:55)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: Off-balance on the roof as she shouts for help, Sid is hanging by the window with one hand or both depending on the shot. (01:21:45)

Scream (1996)

Character mistake: Sid deduces that Billy could be the killer because he could have used his phone call from jail to make the threatening call. However, the deduction has to be incorrect, since if it was really Billy, he could have never used the voice-changing device.

Suggested correction: This will sound pedantic (hey, it's MovieMistakes.com, we're entitled), but I don't think this is what is meant by a character mistake. Sidney isn't presenting an erroneous fact that goes uncorrected, she's explaining an idea that had crossed her mind. Billy immediately gives a plausible response and by the end of the film it's evident who'd called her. The takeaway isn't that Billy could still be the killer but that Sidney can't help but suspect him despite their reconciliation.

Scream (1996)

Other mistake: Tumbling down the ditch with Dewey, you can see that Gale loses her red pumps. In the rest of the scene though she goes to Mr. Prescott's car first and then back towards the street without fetching her shoes back. (01:17:55)

Scream (1996)

Other mistake: Randy answers the phone and receives the news that the principal has been killed and left to hang from the goalpost. He gets the call from the telephone by the TV, and he his head reaches about half the height of the TV. The hidden camera is on top of the VHS player, a shelf underneath the TV, but somewhat Gale and Kenny in the TV truck get a close-up of his mouth. (01:16:00)

Scream (1996)

Audio problem: Gale exits the TV truck telling her cameraman "I'll be right back" to go with the theme of the movie. However, the line is dubbed over and Courteney Cox says something shorter and different. (01:14:25)

Scream (1996)

Continuity mistake: Randy pauses the movie and gets up to explain "the rules." Stu comments "Have an aneurysm, why don't ya?" Matthew Lillard's hand is in a different position in that shot. Not only that; the only extra you can partially see on the right in the background, in the previous shot made a disappointed gesture and lowered his arm, and in this new shot he lowers it again anew.
