Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the episode, the distance between the suspects and the proportions are noticeably different from the end of the previous episode, and between shots within this very episode too.
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the episode, The Killer (John de Lancie) strikes. He is holding the champagne flute with the middle finger curled between the hand and the belly of the glass, but in close-up the finger is at a right angle in front of the stem.(00:01:55)
Other mistake: The protagonist reads the last will of his adventurer father, "Idaho Jones" The will supposedly also contains a 'candid photography' of the father, but in the screenshot where everyone stares in disbelief at what Mr. Jones and his lady friends liked to call "the kraken", the asset used to portray the back of the photo is one of a postcard.
Plot hole: Kindaichi bases his solution on a fact (there was a certain object on the elevator together with the victim) he couldn't know about, since Li did not mention it (and if he did, he would have been on the right track to solve the mystery himself).
Continuity mistake: When Kindaichi shows the newspaper explaining to Kenmochi (and the audience) the mystery behind Akechi's death, he holds it in close-up with his finger between the second and third character from the right, the third and fourth in the next shot.(00:16:25)
Continuity mistake: When the police blocks the alley where Matsuoka was killed, the corpse is gone, but the first shot of Li in the alley shows the body being wheeled away in the foreground.(00:09:15)
Continuity mistake: After the flashback to the event of 18 years earlier, there's a side view of Matsuoka's face who says that they feared Jun would be still alive. The stack of papers on the desk is more towards the center of the desk than it is in the rest of the scene.(00:08:05)
Stupidity: The movie plot has a level of basic idiocy that the anime never had in any of its incarnations; Mr. X here is a scientist who made 3 unique masks that can be worn only by certain people with specific potential that are born"once in a lifetime", and raised 3 candidates out of maybe hundreds, for over 10 years of arduous training. One of them, Jo, out of jealousy attacks and cripples another. The mad scientist does absolutely nothing to stop the fight, that goes on for ages, nor punishes the rebel who did irreparable damage; in fact that aspect is never addressed at all and is as a normal case of "survival of the fittest." Later in the movie, Jo asks "permission" to hunt the third Tiger Mask, who meanwhile escaped. He didn't ask permission to destroy the most valuable asset of the gang, but he does for going after the traitor. X is also money-motivated and in a cutthroat competition against other branches, making his actions and inactions even more incomprehensible.
Stupidity: Naoto could have easily prevented his friend being crippled by their rival if just he put his superpower mask on, which he had with him all the time and tries to use only at the very end after Jo has been torturing Dan for a long time.
Continuity mistake: At the club, Dan says hi to two girls. He does it with his hand behind Naoto's shoulder, but in the reverse shot his arm is actually in front of Naoto.(00:36:15)
Continuity mistake: Young Dan and Jo are fighting over their meal. The position of the tray on the table changes several times, most noticeably when Dan leaps off the table. Moreover, when he returns to it after he jumped off the bed, the tray is empty minus a little red berry, but it still had rice and other food on it earlier.(00:18:30)
Continuity mistake: The children are fighting the blindfolded trainee. He stops short of punching one of them in the face. Reaction shots on the three kids, and the middle one crosses his arms, only to show up with the arms uncrossed in the next shot, just like he was in the previous from the same angle.(00:16:40)
Continuity mistake: Sam Boone walks Ben Brigade to the horses holding his rifle, and they have a bit of a chat by and about the captive Billy. During this scene, the handkerchief at Randolph Scott's neck waves like mad in the wind over his shoulder under one camera angle, and it is still and in front of the chest in the other.(00:09:30)
Continuity mistake: The two buddies are eating and listening to the exposition news item about the "Zone of Personal Freedom." In the last part of the scene ("Who do you suppose are gonna call to clean that up?" the straw inside Chad McQueen's milkshake keeps swapping position between the middle and the rim of the glass.(00:03:20)
Continuity mistake: When Kindaichi holds the army knife picking it up from the ground, it has two stripes of blood across the blade, just one stripe when Detective Li picks it up.
Continuity mistake: Lee's men are chasing Kindaichi that just escaped from the air conditioning vent. In one shot (the one with the camera behind the two guys) the policeman wearing the white shirt has the earpiece on the wrong ear - left ear, while he wears it on the right ear in the rest of the scene.(00:09:00)
Continuity mistake: After Akechi's stabbing, Detective Li Pai-Long puts his hand on Kindaichi's shoulder, very close to the neck in the first shot, further towards the arm in the second.(00:03:20)
Continuity mistake: Kindaichi drops the knife that falls at distance and rolls on the floor clear from obstacles, but it's at his feet in the wide shot.(00:02:50)
