Continuity mistake: Two dudes bend Magnum over the railing the moment he gets inside the guest house. His arm is restrained behind his back at first, then all of a sudden his arm is in front of the railing, but it's bent behind his back as it gets back to the overhead angle from before. (00:05:20)

Other mistake: Magnum is taunting the dobermanns while he's grabbed and pushed against the door by two dudes. They are big, and armed. The room is normally lit. There is just no way he could get inside and somehow Miss their presence. Especially the one coming at him from his right; there is a railing on that side of the landing. Magnum would have literally bumped into him; it's not that because he was out of frame he was not existing. (00:05:15)

Other mistake: When the lads chase Magnum at the beginning, first of all they take a disproportionate amount of time to reach him, and secondly, the same footage is reused, so they effectively sprint past the same tree (with the same 2 dead leaves and straw by it) twice. (00:04:40 - 00:05:05)

Continuity mistake: Magnum says "Hi guys!" to Zeus and Apollo through the door; the blue fabric of his duffel bag shows through the hole, but when he gets grabbed and frisked from behind, the bag is away from the door's hole. (00:05:10)

Continuity mistake: When the lads arrive by the door, the mail slot is shut in blatant disregard to close-up of Selleck's face grinning through it. (00:05:00)

Continuity mistake: Magnum tosses his bag over the wall. The bag bounces off a tree and falls vertically next to it, but when Magnum climbs the wall, the bag is by his landing point, not by the tree. (00:04:00)

Audio problem: The episode opens with a news report, which itself opens with the words; "In Belfast, Northern Ireland, where a bomb blast destroyed an office building last Tuesday, a special task force under the command of Brigadier General Alistair Folkes", etc. The report runs for a minute, then the phone rings and Higgins, off-camera, answers. The audio of the TV fades in and out to leave room to the relevant conversation, but you can still hear that it's going in a loop, repeating the exact sentence it started with and moving on from there word by word. Character mistake: Higgins is extremely protective of any little trinket and bric-à-brac at the Estate, but in this episode he barely bats an eyelid at a post-impressionist masterpiece being handled casually, rolled up and passed around. He handles it pretty badly himself.

Other mistake: Magnum gets inside the Waikiki Natatorium War Memorial climbing athletically over the closed gate. The bad guy comes roughly from the same direction, but given his physical state, one wonders how could he accomplish such a feat - it is conveniently kept off camera, but he comes from a direction with no gates. To beat him to the finish, Rick picks another direction entirely just walking around the bleachers! And they all end up at the same location.

Continuity mistake: The bad guy is supposed to retrieve the painting just a few minutes after Magnum made the drop, but the light is very much different between the two scenes, and the sky seems to change even between the moment the obese villain goes up the stairs and the time he somehow makes his way down them without dying.

Continuity mistake: On one side of the metal detectors, the bad guy has sweat soaking his shirt from shoulders to pits. When he retrieves the painting, he has just a stain at the middle of his back. (00:46:00)

Revealing mistake: Rick is lurking in the pool; once the evil greenshirt Orson Welles-lookalike is hopping down the stairs, the cement in front of his hiding place has a big wet spot, no doubt from previous takes when the actor had to come out of the water dripping all over the deck. (00:41:00)

Continuity mistake: Magnum and co. Are taken to the Hawaiian gangster's place. Mano's hand in the very first shot (when Higgins' asks who's in charge) is on his own leg, but in the reverse shot he's toughing the blonde chick's thigh. (00:34:35)

Plot hole: "Three Tahitians", one of the masterpieces from one of the most famous post-impressionist painters in the world, is authenticated by an ordinary school teacher. Because that's the person for this multimillionaire job, obviously. (00:25:20)

Stupidity: It is stated that the security has been "really tightened" because of the Gauguin, and "the place is harder to break in than a safe." So, what's the security for this multimillionaire picture? An alarm that goes off if someone touches the painting, but it switched off completely if just someone flips an unprotected switch positioned less than 10 feet away. Even a kid could dispose of that - which is what happens - but it's not like a siren going off in the middle of a remote estate would discourage a thief that can simply run away with it. (00:23:25)
