Factual error: The fictional island of Saint Marie where the series takes place is a British territory - after all, the whole gig is about fish-out-of-water British cops in the tropics. Specifically the Commissioner explains the history of the island to DI Richard Poole driving him to the station the first time and says that it was a French territory but in the mid 70s they handed it back to the British. Despite that, throughout the whole series the police and almost every local drive (on the left) vehicles with French registration plates, specifically with the 971 code of Guadeloupe, where the series is shot. In the first seasons the British police also routinely sends evidence and other critical parts of the job to labs in Guadaloupe, effectively out of the country. Seems quite absurd that in 40 years the British wouldn't have established vital parts of administration and rely entirely on French neighbours.

Continuity mistake: On Rita's doorstep, Rupert says that he wouldn't want to impose. You can see Robert De Niro folding the jacket over his bag, but in the rest of the scene he holds the folded jacket between the bag and his body. (00:21:10)

Continuity mistake: When the girls come out of the crate, the lid of the crate rests on top of it, sticking out by quite a bit, and parallel. During the fight, when Selleck is replaced by a stunt double, the lid sticks out by a small corner. Earlier when he was trying to talk his way out of it and let the girl go, the shadow of the lid also varied in size depending on the camera angle. (00:10:20)

Continuity mistake: When the boss somewhat under a certain influence from Karen calls Pablo to tell him that his request for sponsorship has been denied, his face is in a different spot of the blanket between shots (cheek and chin on the yellow stripe, then the red stripe). (00:43:30)

Continuity mistake: In a remarkable coincidence, the Admiral Magnum needs to talk to happens to be chilling at his place about to get a mouthful of Higgins' buns. When he answers Magnum "Probably too much" after the vigorous shake, his left hand is behind the seat of the Ferrari, but it's on the car door in the shot that follows. (00:22:15)

Continuity mistake: During the car chase, Magnum is wearing a large wristband, which appears also in the close-ups of the gears being shifted. It's nowhere to be seen in the side views of Tom Selleck in the car, though. (00:21:40)

Continuity mistake: Outside during the funeral reception, Sean and Steph are dealing with Nicky. The camera cuts to the parents of the kid's classmates gawking at the scene, but before and after they can be seen in background through the window minding their own business and chatting oblivious to what happens outside.
