Continuity mistake: When Masha reaches over to strip the tape off Jerry's mouth, look at the large duct tape cocoon he is wrapped into, in particular his lap. Later in the same scene when the crazy woman speaks to him it cuts to the same angle of the room (like when she says "Do you like these glasses?"), and you can see his constraints are different; there's a large visible strip of tape across his lap that was not there before. Factual error: The movie as the opening captions say, is set in Melbourne, Australia, 1978. However when Sam at the beginning of the movie drinks the milk and moves to the other room where the TV is, he passes by a poster (a communist party poster, the Italian communist party, strangely enough) that was designed only in 1981. Stupidity: A huge amount of movies and TV shows would be over in 5 minutes if only the person who just uncovered a horrible secret (such as who committed a murder) and is calling the good guys about it would quickly spill out of the gist of it instead of just setting up an appointment for a later meeting when they are supposed to discuss at length their findings, and which will only turn out to be the investigation of their own murder.

Other mistake: In a city of millions and millions of inhabitants, when the protagonist chases his neighbour till she enters the building in William Street, the taxi that passes in front of him as he crosses the road is the same taxi with license plate T 9362 that nearly ran him over at the very beginning when he was trying to get his sign back. Which incidentally is a model of Chevy Caprice post-1981 (likely a 1987 Caprice). (00:02:25 - 00:24:35)

Factual error: In the elevator, Arthur meets the single mom living on the same floor, Sophie Dumond. In Sophie's shopping bag, the one recognizable food item is a box of Betty Crocker's Hamburger Helper - Potato Stroganoff. Thing is, the packaging uses (look at the design of the 'menu idea') a design predating the introduction of the Helping Hand mascot, which happened in the late 70s. She just bought it, it can't be ancient, long expired food. (00:19:35)

Continuity mistake: In the theater lavatory, Arthur puts the usher jacket in the sink. Part of the jacket drapes to the side of the sink, but at the cut the cloth is entirely contained in it. (01:05:00)

Continuity mistake: Arthur inadvertently fires a gunshot in his living room. Right as he tumbles across the table, he knocks off the table the paper bag the gun came with, and knocks towards the edge of the table a pill bottle. In the closer angle shot when he cranks up the volume of the TV set, the bag is still on the table and the bottle is gone. The newspapers are also positioned differently. In the next shot we're back to the previous state (pills up, bag down, newspapers closer together). (00:23:10)

Continuity mistake: In the first shot of the pediatric ward you can see on the left aisle a plush ladybug toy. When Arthur drops the gun, the toy suddenly between cuts is found in the arms of a patient, and then on the bed by him. (00:28:30)

Factual error: Heading home after the first encounter with the social worker and the incident with the kid and the irritable mom, Arthur is trudging to get his meds at Helms' Pharmacy. Parked in front of the pharmacy there's a sedan, a Mercury Grand Marquis, which by bumper design is a post 1988 model, way past the events of the movie, in 1981. (00:09:20)

Factual error: In almost every movie when a landmine is involved, dramatic tension builds when the character steps on it, inevitably hearing a click. That's it, you and everyone else realise that you triggered the mine, and it will explode the moment you try to step away. It's time to say farewell to your friends surrendering to your fate, or hold very still until someone thinks of something extremely clever and bold to save you. In the real world, though, you'd already been maimed, since mines are made to explode with the initial pressure, not the release. Example; the legendary ending of Double Team, or the movie Mine, which is...literally all based on this.
