Visible crew/equipment: While the family starts packing up their car with John's suitcases and boxes, right after John says, "I just don't want any kind of a big scene," a cluster of boom mics dip into view and stays there at the top of the screen, over Mary Ellen and Jason. Then in the closeup, as John agrees that they will all go see Olivia, a crew member wearing a blue shirt (with a front pocket) is visible in the vehicle's window reflection. (00:44:40)

Continuity mistake: When John-Boy, Jason, and Ben share the Recipe with Jim-Bob for a celebration, John-Boy sits on the bed directly below the picture of the biplane fighters (seen in three shots), but each time it cuts to the shots facing Jim-Bob we see in the mirror's reflection that it's Jason sitting below that picture, and John-Boy is further up on the bed. Character mistake: When John-Boy reads the nursery rhyme "Simple Simon" to his nephew, John-Boy points to the colorful illustrations in this book and tells John Curtis, "See, that's Simple Simon, he's a bear." This is incorrect. In the illustrations, Simple Simon is a donkey, and it's the pieman who is a bear (he's wearing a chef's hat and apron). (00:40:50)

Factual error: When John Curtis walks out to the porch he's carrying a storybook, which John-Boy reads to him, and the year is late 1945 or early 1946. This over-sized Golden Book is titled "Richard Scarry's Best Mother Goose Ever," and at its earliest it was published in 1970 with Scarry's illustrations of "Three Little Kittens" on the cover, and "Jack Be Nimble" on the back cover. Visible crew/equipment: After Ike goes off to help Jim-Bob and Jason with the antenna cable, just at the moment it cuts to John-Boy on the porch, at the start of the shot, on the right side of the screen we can see the shadow of someone's arm motioning to the young actor who is playing John Curtis, so he can open the screen door to step onto the porch at the correct time. Other mistake: During John-Boy's entrance exam at Boatwright University, when he's given the pamphlet and history test questions, note three of the questions include the contraction "it's" which is incorrect within those given questions. Each question should have used "its" without an apostrophe. Additionally, the sign on the University's wall reads "keep your eyes on you own paper" instead of "your own paper." (01:00:35)

Trivia: While Maggie MacKenzie and John-Boy are at the Mermaid Restaurant, when they both dance together Maggie envisions her long deceased husband, Michael MacKenzie, dancing with her instead of John-Boy. It is Earl Hamner Jr. who portrays Michael MacKenzie in this uncredited onscreen cameo during the scene (note teeth and facial features are identical).

Trivia: While John is reading the newspaper funnies to John Curtis, we hear Erin and Mary Ellen come home, so John puts the folded newspaper down on the couch. And as the newspaper lies on the couch, we can see the large white adhesive label with typewritten sentences adhered to the center of the funnies page. Presumably, these are the actor's lines as he was reading quite animatedly to the toddler (sweet moment). (00:06:25)

Trivia: While everyone is at the table eating supper and talking, little John Curtis taps on John's shoulder, then John turns and asks "What?" John Curtis points to his pants and excitedly says, "I got new pants," and John says, "I see that. Who got you those? Your mommy?" Then John Curtis looks offscreen, away from the other actors on set, and replies, "No, from Pat," (no characters named Pat are on the show) and without missing a beat, John responds, "From Pat? Where does she live? On the next farm?" And John Curtis answers, "Yeah," amidst all the giggles we can hear, so John answers with a smirk, "Okay, good!" This is such a hilariously precious unscripted moment, and great they decided to leave it in the episode. (00:26:15)

Trivia: When Jason and John-Boy are at the French restaurant John-Boy suggests Vichyssoise soup, but Jason tells his brother he's not a fan of that soup. In 8x10 "The Silver Wings," Serena worked on getting the cooking merit badge, and during the meal (which Corabeth helped plan) Serena served Vichyssoise soup, and Jason's facial expression when he tastes it helps explain why he is not a big fan.

Revealing mistake: While Cindy and Ben are going through Colonel Brunson's belongings Cindy finds the Adoption Decree, and begins reading it. The funny thing is there's a closeup of the document, and it's apparent that it's actually a studio contract. Even without pausing we can read things such as: "Use of Double," "Location Expenses" or "Damage to Wardrobe." Though if it's paused we can read entire lines such as: "Location Expenses: Where the services of the Artist are required to be performed outside of the City of Los Angeles or its environs, the Producer shall transport the Artist and the reasonable personal baggage of the Artist..."
