Continuity mistake: When Percy leads the group of first years back to the Gryffindor dormitories for the first time, at the stairs he says, "Keep up please and follow me. Quickly now, come on." In this wide shot Harry and Ron run up the stairs first and Hermione is at least six people behind them. Yet, in the next close-up she is with them at the front, right behind Percy. (00:48:25)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Continuity mistake: When Dudley falls into the water in the Python's exhibit, his clothes are completely soaked. Yet when Dudley yells and bangs on the glass, in the shot facing Petunia as she screams, it is quite apparent that Dudley's sweater/jumper is not entirely wet. The wet hair at the back of his head lies flat in the second shot as well. (00:07:15)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Continuity mistake: At the snake exhibit, while Harry speaks with the Python the snake's body lies curled over a long wood log and a large rock. In the shot from outside the Python's exhibit, after the glass pane disappears Dudley falls over the rail and the snake is gone, not positioned differently or blocked from view, but altogether gone. In the next overhead shot inside the Python's exhibit, while Dudley falls the snake is back lying on the log and rock, in the very same position as in the previous shots. (00:07:10)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Visible crew/equipment: The morning of Dudley's birthday, in the wide shot facing the kitchen when Harry walks in, to the right of the screen is a large framed photo of Dudley. The camera does not move as Harry walks toward the stove and reflected in that photo is a piece of studio equipment moving. (00:04:50)
Continuity mistake: As Will and Grapple fight, in the shot facing Grapple after Will's sword is hurled away, Grapple grabs Will directly around the back of his neck with the grapnel and starts to pull him close. However, in the next shot facing Will, the grapnel is only at Will's shoulder and left arm, as Grapple pulls him close. (00:34:55)
Continuity mistake: As Will holds the sword above his head to block Grapple's grapnel, the cloth (the same one he wears around his neck when his sleeve is pulled down) that is tied around his right wrist is visible. He is soon rendered unconscious by a pirate's candlestick. When he wakes he puts his right hand to his aching head and the cloth's knot is visible. The cloth is wrapped completely differently in the two shots, though he never had the chance to change it. (00:34:50)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Continuity mistake: When Harry and Hagrid walk into Diagon Alley, in the first shot, as they start down the street, on their right they immediately pass; 1- a man in black standing at the doorway to the Daily Prophet office, writing in a notebook, who then starts to walk away. 2- particular men and women walking past the store. 3- store window with Quidditch uniforms. 4- children looking in store window. A few shots later, they pass on their right a man, with bushy grey sideburns, walking with a woman dressed in black, yet in the next shot that same man and woman are chatting in the doorway to the Owl Emporium on their left. Then a few shots after that, still walking, Harry and Hagrid pass all the numbers, 1 through 4 again in close-up. (00:20:40)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Continuity mistake: When trapped in the Python exhibit at the zoo, Dudley stands up, presses his wet palms on the glass and nervously bangs on the glass while dripping plenty of water on it. However, in the next two shots after yelling, "Mummy, help! Help me!" the glass is all dry and just wet beneath his palms. (00:07:50)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Visible crew/equipment: While chasing the Snitch, Malfoy says, "You'll never catch me, Potter." In the following wide shot from the side, the seat support under Tom Felton's left thigh is visible, as he was filmed sitting upright for this particular shot. In the following front shot of both together, as Harry passes Malfoy, the seats that are attached to the broomsticks, to add a bit of comfort for Dan Radcliffe and Tom Felton, are visible. (00:56:00)

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Visible crew/equipment: While Harry is chased by the Bludger, Hermione says, "No! Even with a proper wand you could hit Harry..." Three shots later, as Harry passes the blue Ravenclaw tower, the back of his robe flies up and the metal base of the seat he sits on is perfectly visible. Some shots are filmed vertically, as he sits on the attached seat with the upright broomstick in front of him, but then edited with the background plate to look as if he is lying on the horizontal broomstick. Hence the need for a seat perpendicular to the broomstick. (00:55:00)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Visible crew/equipment: During the Quidditch match Harry's broomstick tries to shake him off, due to the spell. After Hermione tells Ron, "Leave it to me," in Harry's last close-up before he flips over, the seat that is attached to the broomstick, to make it more comfortable for Dan Radcliffe to sit on, is entirely visible. Glimpses of other seats can be had during the match as well. (01:20:50)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Visible crew/equipment: During the Quidditch match as the players ride their broomsticks, visible in quite a few shots are the two wires that are attached to the broom handle, between their legs, that extend down with a clamped loop that goes around their feet. In some shots the wires between their legs are edited, but the wire loops around their feet are perfectly visible, like in the following example. When the Slytherin score hits 10 onscreen, in the next shot, as Flint shouts, "Take that side," the wire is completely visible at his right foot under his cloak. Two examples where the entire wires are visible are, when Flint grabs the club and says, "Gimme that!" the wires are blatantly visible and he then proceeds to slam the Bludger into Wood, who falls. Next close-up of one of the twins, the wires are visible before Flint starts to leap over him. (Don't confuse the cloak's long front ties for the wire). (01:19:00)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Continuity mistake: The angle/shape of Harry's scar changes dramatically in quite a few shots throughout the film. Two examples being, the morning of Dudley's birthday, when Harry opens his eyes in the close-up, while lying in the cupboard; and later, when his hair is blown back in the close-up, as Voldemort's 'spirit' starts to rush through him, while he holds the Stone. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Continuity mistake: Dumbledore, McGonagall and Hagrid leave baby Harry on the Dursley's doorstep. When the shot opens in the first close-up of the baby, as Dumbledore places the envelope on the blanket, though a good portion of his forehead is visible, the scar is not there. In his next close-up, it is very apparent, due to the position of the scar, that part of it should have been visible on his forehead in the previous close-up. (00:03:40)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Continuity mistake: When Mr. Ollivander takes the first wand out of the box to give to Harry, the board, shelf, roses, etc., are visible behind him. When Harry takes the second wand to wave, just before the vase explodes, in the close-up the hanging red feathers, black roses and notes to the left of the roses all visibly differ to the previous shot of them. (00:25:50)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Continuity mistake: After leaving Gringotts, Hagrid directs Harry to Ollivanders to buy his wand. When Hagrid says, "Why don't you run along there and wait...," there is a close-up of the store. Under the name Ollivanders the three roll window shades are completely pulled up, allowing the lamp chain to be visible behind the curved showcase window and the window shade at the top of the front door is pulled partially down behind the glass panes. However, as Harry opens the front door in the first shot, the window shades to his left, in the curved showcase window, are partially pulled down and the window shade on the door is now rolled up. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Continuity mistake: After Harry thanks Hagrid for his birthday cake, Hagrid sits on the couch. In the next two shots facing Hagrid as he pulls out his 'umbrella', Hagrid's fry pan suddenly lies on the couch, which is visible to his right. The way he pulls out the 'umbrella' and the position of the fry pan differ within the two shots. Moreover, the fry pan is gone after these two shots. (00:14:25)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Visible crew/equipment: Hagrid surprises Harry with the box of birthday cake and Harry opens the box. In the close-up of the cake, as Harry holds the box with his left hand and moves the blue string with his right hand, a crew member's finger is visible under the box, over Harry's left shoulder. Obviously it is someone holding the box underneath, while Harry holds it with one hand. (00:14:10)

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Continuity mistake: At the hut on the rock, Harry lies on a grey blanket spread on the ground between the fireplace and the couch. When Hagrid bangs on the door, Harry quickly jumps up and hides, leaving the blanket behind. Though the blanket is visible on the ground, in some shots, it is however, gone in the three wide shots with the Hagrid body double, as he zaps a tail on Dudley, then as all the Dursleys run upstairs, as well as the shot after Hagrid says, "We're a bit behind schedule, best be off." Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
Visible crew/equipment: When Hagrid enters the hut on the rock, as well as when he leaves, the bare floor near the front door is clearly visible. However, when he says, "It's not everyday your young man turns eleven, now is it?" in the next shot as Hagrid sits down, on the floor to his left is the crew's mat with marks for the Dursleys (Fiona Shaw and Richard Griffiths), who stand near the door.
