The Waltons

The Thanksgiving Story - S2-E10

Other mistake: During John-Boy's entrance exam at Boatwright University, when he's given the pamphlet and history test questions, note three of the questions include the contraction "it's" which is incorrect within those given questions. Each question should have used "its" without an apostrophe. Additionally, the sign on the University's wall reads "keep your eyes on you own paper" instead of "your own paper." (01:00:35)

The Prize - S2-E7

Other mistake: While John and his sons are at the pig pen talking about Rover, in the first wideshot facing them all we can see the Baldwins' stationary car parked near the pen, waiting for the cue to move at the proper time. During their entire conversation nobody remarks or reacts to the Baldwins' car being right there, not until the second wideshot, just as the vehicle moves closer to the Walton house, and then everyone exclaims, "Baldwin sisters/ladies!" as if they just now showed up. The Revelation - S6-E21

Other mistake: After John-Boy leaves, in the last scene we hear Jim-Bob ask about the magazines, but subtitles claim it is Ben who asks, then as we hear Jason answer the queston, the subtitles tell us it is Jim-Bob who answers. (00:47:00)

The Conflict - S3-E1

Other mistake: After seeing the new house, Martha Corinne and Esther are at the back of the truck talking while John is driving home. During their conversation the truck is not actually moving (it's shaken to give an impression of movement), as we can see no change in scenery through the small rear window and at the left side of the screen in shots facing Esther. Additionally, Olivia is visible through the rear window sitting in the front seat, and she's wearing dangle earrings, which she does not wear in the scenes before or after (presumably it's the stand-in sitting in the seat). The Courtship - S1-E19

Other mistake: When Uncle Cody hears the bad news on the radio about the banks remaining close, Olivia suddenly orders the children to clear the table when their plates are half full. Which wouldn't happen in a Depression with food being a precious commodity.

The Hawk - S6-E1

Other mistake: When the wild hawk flies over and soon lands on the green painted chicken box, not only are different birds of prey shown in these shots, their flight feathers are also intact. When Zeb and Jim-Bob walk over to the bird, it's apparent that this hawk standing atop the box has the primary feathers clipped on its left wing. (00:31:00)

The Dust Bowl Cousins - S1-E13

Other mistake: After the fight, when John walks over to John-Boy, who's at the kitchen sink, and tells him to explain what it's all about, the camera pans a bit too far to the right so we can see the unfinished edge of the cabinet at the right. It's unfinished because the adjacent shorter double cabinet (with a glass door) which should be there is missing in this shot, then that cabinet is back when John-Boy turns around in a following shot. (00:42:15)

The Conflict - S3-E1

Other mistake: While Martha Corinne is standing in front of the bathroom sink in the new house, we see her height compared to the mirrored medicine cabinet above the sink, and Martha Corinne is quite a bit shorter than the mirror's knob, even with her bonnet. When she reaches up to open the cabinet door, in the next closeup from behind her she is now taller than that knob. For this specific closeup The Actress was presumably standing on a stool, in order to have the perfect shot of her turning her head, then being surprised by her own reflection in the mirror. The Carousel - S9-E11

Other mistake: When Jim-Bob comes home unexpectedly while Drew is over, this scene takes place in the boys' bedroom. In the interior shot, when Jim-Bob tells Drew to douse the light Drew gets up and turns off the light in the boys' bedroom, then it cuts to the exterior shot which specifically shows their window going dark as the light is being turned off by Drew. The problem is in this exterior shot we are seeing the light go out in John-Boy's bedroom (where Mary Ellen resides with the baby), not the boys' bedroom. (00:26:00)

The Lost Sheep - S8-E8

Other mistake: When Erin leaves The House to go with Ashley Jr., Elizabeth states to the kid that it's 3 a.m. When Ashley stops The Car to propose to Erin moments later, it is sunrise between the trees or early daylight, meaning this was a moment shot in different increments.

Show generally

Other mistake: During almost any random episode of the family hanging out on the porch after dark, the moonlight is unusually bright, indicating obvious studio lights in their faces, or plug-in lamps on extension cords for actual light attached to the porch ceiling or whatnot.

The Spoilers - S3-E8

Other mistake: During the somewhat pointed discussion with the Hanover family at dinner, Olivia suddenly has the girls help clear the table when all their plates are still full, which wouldn't happen during a depression with money so tight.

Suggested correction: This episode takes place in 1945. We see Mary Ellen look toward the mare's front (not hind) legs/joints, which are weight bearing; and when Mary Ellen tells Elizabeth about her mare, Molly, Mary Ellen's actual words are, "Elizabeth, it's her leg. It's broken. It's bad. We're gonna have to put her out of her misery." Viewers are not shown what Molly's "bad" break is, but with Mary Ellen's words, we know the break is severe, which was a death sentence for any horse. Just to add, it all completely depends on the location of the equine injury and the severity of the break/fracture. Nowadays, with modern advancements in equine veterinary care, (thankfully!) some severe breaks may not be a death sentence for a horse.

Suggested correction: Why wouldn't she be wearing makeup during the depression? Especially if it was just a small amount. This isn't a mistake, just your opinion. Women continued to wear makeup during the depression, and not just starlets or the rich and famous. In fact, makeup sales overall hardly took a dip during the depression because women through the US were still buying it.

Bishop73

Despite that women did wear it during the Depression, part of the factor being that the Waltons wouldn't afford such a luxury, considering their very tight pockets. Otherwise, we'd see Olivia preening herself also, before she goes anywhere. But doesn't even wear lipstick. And Maryellen is never 'caught' actually putting on the eye makeup. So it's likely not any opinion.

The Recluse - S6-E3

Visible crew/equipment: Near the end, while John is working alone in the mill Ben shows up, and when Ben asks, "Need some help," a crew member is hiding behind the stack of drawers, toward the right side of the screen. It's not Zeb or Easy or any family member. (00:46:30)

The Journey - S2-E1

Trivia: While Maggie MacKenzie and John-Boy are at the Mermaid Restaurant, when they both dance together Maggie envisions her long deceased husband, Michael MacKenzie, dancing with her instead of John-Boy. It is Earl Hamner Jr. who portrays Michael MacKenzie in this uncredited onscreen cameo during the scene (note teeth and facial features are identical).
