Shining Through (1992)

Shining Through mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Margrete is searching her apartment for Linda with her pistol, she goes from holding it with one finger on the trigger to having two fingers on the trigger. (01:50:40)

Snag.1

Suggested correction: Margrete doesn't instantly go from one finger to two fingers on the trigger; it's over twenty seconds later. Your two pictures are not an accurate representation of the actual onscreen continuity. Margrete turns off the bathtub faucet. She walks through the bathroom shown in the top picture (01:50:06), and the camera then pans toward the window and pans back to Margrete. It then cuts to a shot of the parlor area, then cuts again to Margrete as she pulls the gun's slide back. The next shot shows Linda grabbing the scissors. Then, finally, in the next shot, Margrete hears Linda, so she turns her head with her two fingers on the trigger, shown in the bottom picture (01:50:32).

Continuity mistake: In the Well of Souls, Indy and Sallah place the Ark in the box. Indy closes the box with a wooden lid and looks up. In the next shot, a torch has appeared in Indy's hand, a rope has appeared, tied to the four sides of the box, and Sallah has appeared next to Indy's left shoulder. In addition, the box is already several metres above Indy and Sallah in the second shot. (01:09:43)

Big Game

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: There is an obvious time jump between the shots. They simply decided not to spend ten minutes showing all the details of sealing the box and tying the rope around it.

I wouldn't say this was a deliberate time jump, as they show Indy carefully and slowly placing the Ark in the box, then sealing it. In addition, when he looks up, he immediately says, "All right... take it up! Easy!" so it's clear this is a continuity mistake.

Big Game

He says, "All right. Take it up" after the cut. Yes, he does look up before the cut, but since everything else is different, we are supposed to interpret it as a jump in time.

In fact, almost nothing changes between these two scenes, except for these small but clear details.

Big Game

There's a deliberate jump in time between these two shots, and this transition is done creatively. First, we're below with Indiana as he places the lid on the crate and looks up toward the top entrance; it then cuts to the entrance POV, and now we're looking down as the tied-up crate is being lifted. The jump in time between these two shots is transitioned using a type of match cut. Absolutely no mistakes regarding these two consecutive shots.

Continuity mistake: When Scar wants to eat the mouse, he holds it with his left paw. When Zazu calls out to him, he holds it with his right paw.

Tuch75

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: This change does not occur between shots. When Scar holds the mouse up with his left paw and dangles it over his tongue, it then cuts to a shot facing Zazu as he says, "Didn't your mother ever tell you not to play with your food?" In the moments that Scar is offscreen, he lays the mouse on the ground and covers it with his right paw.

The Bad Guys (2022)

Continuity mistake: When Snake and Wolf are fighting in the prison, a guard crashed down to the floor from above. Later, however, the guard is gone. (01:01:43 - 01:02:29)

NeoMatrix

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: When this guard falls to the floor between Wolf and Snake, he points to Diane Foxington at the upper level. Then, in the many shots that follow, we do not actually see the floor area where Wolf and Snake are being held by their own two guards. While Diane is taking out a bunch of other guards in multiple shots, the guard who originally fell has had ample time and opportunity offscreen to carefully flee—just hightail it out of there. So, as stated in the mistake, that guard is gone "later" in the scene, but this is not problematic to continuity.

Super Grover

That is a very legitimate correction. I do have one possible counter. When Diane was perched atop the railing, the ceiling above had additional lights above her, indicating it was the top floor/level. When Diane jumps high when the lights turn red, you can count the number of floors. There are three floors above the ground level. If that's the case, I personally feel it would have been very hard for the guard to move at all, let alone flee.

NeoMatrix

I do get what you're saying, but even if it's as you state "very hard" to flee, it is not impossible; though I don't think it's actually quite that hard. For instance, there are double doors directly behind that guard, and he could have slipped out that way. It's just the fact that, during the numerous shots of this lengthy sequence, we do not have eyes on this guard, nor do we see the floor area he was lying on. So, since it's possible, we cannot claim his being "gone" "later" as a mistake.

The Sauna at the End of the Stairs - S1-E11

Corrected entry: Cody sees that after he electrocuted his father, the wall plug is on fire and has burn marks. He removes the plug plate and replaces it. We see him remove the plate and the central area where the plug holes are. Plugs aren't made that way. The outer area (the plate) is easy to remove, but the central part would require an electrician to remove and rewire.

Leicaman

Correction: There are two 'self-closing outlet covers' in both the bathroom and bedroom. Cody didn't remove the wall outlet receptacles that conduct electricity; he only removed and switched the outer self-closing outlet cover plates: the bathroom cover plate decorated in wallpaper and the bedroom's plain outlet cover plate. In the bathroom, when Morgan removes the self-closing outlet cover (without wallpaper), they see the scorched outlet receptacle is still there from the fire. Near the end, during the reenactment, when we hear Morgan say, "He cleans up any evidence of a fire," note the self-closing outlet cover plate in Cody's hand that he places over the scorched outlet receptacle to conceal the burn marks. Rewatch, please.

Super Grover

Thanks. I've never seen covers like that.

This type, and other similar variations, has often been used by people (myself included) to child-proof and pet-proof wall outlets.

Corrected entry: In one scene, Grandpa packs up all of Arnold's stuff, but in the scene when Arnold and Gerald have a sleepover, all of Arnold's stuff is back in his room.

Correction: When Arnold finds Grandpa packing Arnold's stuff, at 00:18:40, Grandpa says, "It's only a matter of time now. Everyone else has sold... I have to sell." Then Grandpa tells Arnold about the Tomato Incident. Arnold is convinced he'll track down the historic site document within the next two days, and he'll save the homes and stores when he shows the document to the mayor. At 00:21:10, Arnold tells Grandpa not to sell the boarding house, and Grandpa replies, "You're a bold kid, I'm with you all the way." So while offscreen, Arnold and Grandpa unpack Arnold's stuff. It's at 00:33:25 that we next see Arnold's room when Gerald is sleeping over that night. The continuity is not problematic.

Speed (1994)

Corrected entry: After the first bus blows up, Jack hears the phone ringing. It is a two phone stand. When Jack first reaches for the phone to answer it you can see he answers the phone on the right hand side. To the right of the phone you can only see trees to the right side. In every scene after that, he is on the left hand side phone.

Correction: While the telephone rings, Jack walks over. At the very start of the shot (00:28:58), when Jack lifts the phone receiver, we can see it's the receiver of the left payphone stand; the metal case of the right payphone is visible at the right side of the screen, and in the space between the two payphones, we can see the shrubbery ("trees") in the background. So, Jack lifts the payphone receiver on the left and continues to use the left receiver in the following shots. Rewatch, please.

Home Alone (1990)

Corrected entry: When Marv is trying to regain balance at the entrance to the basement, his crowbar (which had been hooked onto the window frame) is now floating midair, perhaps dangling on string to drop at just the right moment.

Correction: Marv's crowbar is not "floating midair," nor is it "dangling on a string to drop at just the right moment." After Marv falls down the icy stairs and says, "Ow," when he uses the crowbar to help himself stand upright, we can see that this exterior door has a lower raised solid panel under the glass panels. When Marv peeks through the glass and falls again, the crowbar gets caught on the top lip of the door's raised solid panel for a moment, turns, then slips off the panel's lip and drops. Rewatch, please.

Bad Boys (1995)

Continuity mistake: The taxi leaves the scene with a left turn. You can see it is missing the front hubcap on that side, but it was in its place just moments before; no further crashing happened. (01:37:25)

Sammo

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: The taxi's front left hubcap does not suddenly go "missing" between two shots. The reckless taxi hits the median island (sparks in this shot), hits three metal trash cans, and slams into a car. It's quite plausible to accept that, due to these jarring impacts, even though no further crashing happened the left hubcap has already been jostled loose; so during Martin Lawrence and Will Smith's iconic close-up shot, there is sufficient time for that hubcap to fall off while the taxi is off-screen.

Super Grover

I never said it was from consecutive shots, just that there were no other collisions. It didn't look loose in the slightest after all the collisions you mentioned. The last time we see it on screen, it is actually hidden by a fender that is not supposed to be there because of another mistake already reported, so we could say that is part of that other mistake, if anything.

Sammo

Even though "there were no other collisions" that occurred, within the scene it's a reasonable possibility the hubcap could have been loosened by all the impacts from moments before. And the problem with stating "it didn't look loose in the slightest" after all the collisions is that a loosened hubcap can sometimes be completely unnoticeable visually while the vehicle is in motion. The hubcap could have fallen off as the taxi is driving away, while off-screen (blue fender shot notwithstanding).

Corrected entry: When Jan cuts Marcia's hair, Cindy is lying on her side. When she wakes up, she's lying on her back.

deadpenguin

Correction: This is all within Jan's dream, and this change does not occur between shots. While Cindy is off-screen, there is ample time for her to roll onto her back. In the first shot, we see Cindy on her right side. Then, there is a shot of Jan walking closer to Marcia. It cuts to a close-up shot of the scissors cutting Marcia's hair. It's in the next shot that we finally see Cindy on her back and lifting her head up.

Super Grover

Corrected entry: There's a scene where Arnold is talking about saving the neighbourhood, while Helga is on the roof of a building talking to herself. Arnold is in the street, and there's a man in a white tank top standing in front of him. In another shot, the man is standing behind Arnold, and Helga shoots a plunger at his head. Then in the next shot, the man is back in front of Arnold and his head doesn't have the plunger on it anymore.

Correction: No changes occur between shots. While Helga is alone on the roof professing her love for Arnold, first she has a slingshot and this bald man stands in the crowd in front of Arnold. Eight shots later, Helga has a crossbow loaded with a suction cup arrow, then lines up the scope's crosshairs on the bald man standing behind Arnold (he had plenty of time to move during the eight shots offscreen), at 00:06:05. Next shot, the suction cup arrow lands on the bald man's head, and he's still standing behind Arnold. Then three shots later, while this man was offscreen again, he has removed the suction cup arrow that was stuck on his head and rejoined the crowd gathered in front of Arnold (well, who can blame him, some nut landed a toy arrow on his head while he stood behind Arnold).

Corrected entry: When the priest comes to Whipstaff in the beginning of the film, his cross is firmly snagged on his button. Next shot, it is perfectly free from being stuck. (00:08:10)

Lynette Carrington

Correction: This does not occur in the "next shot," as you say; it's two shots later. In between those two shots, there's a shot facing Dibs and Carrigan as she asks, "Then you can handle this?" It's actually enough time for the chain to fall from the button and hang properly.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: Near the start of the film, when Malagant and his men kill villagers and burn the border village, Malagant wields his current distinctive sword with its long serrated edge. So when Malagant places his own old "Knights" sword (all Knights of the Round Table have identical swords) at his past position on the table, Malagant effectively renounces his former seat at King Arthur's Round Table. Prince Malagant has absolutely no intention of retrieving that sword when he exits.

The Bad Guys

Correction: Firstly, stating "at one point" doesn't make it clear where in the book this occurs, and secondly, the guard's sunglasses don't "disappear." Page 51 has 3 individual panels. The upper panel shows Piranha call, "Cock-a-doodle-doo," to attract the guard, who stands directly in front of Sunnyside's doors, while Piranha and Legs hide a significant distance away from the guard. The lower left panel is a close-up of the guard as he wears sunglasses in front of the Sunnyside doors when he hears Piranha. In the lower right panel, the guard is without sunglasses as he now stands beside Piranha, with Sunnyside's doors seen in the distance. So, between panel 2 and panel 3, a bit of time has passed, and in that time it took for the guard to walk over to Piranha's hiding spot, the guard removed his glasses. No continuity problems.

Super Grover

Corrected entry: After the car gets dropped off the bridge, the driver's side door swings open. In the next shot, it is closed. (00:48:59)

deadpenguin

Correction: It's not "in the next shot" that the door is closed; it's actually two shots later with a bit of time in between. When the white car gets dropped from the bridge, in the shot of the car landing on the ground, the door swings open and also begins to swing back the other way in the direction of being closed. Then the shot cuts away. It cuts to a close-up of the goons standing on the bridge looking down at the car. It's in the next shot, as the goons walk toward the white car, that the door is now closed. Within the time offscreen, Tsurugi could have closed the door while the goons were walking down to the car, so he can surprise attack them in this pretty amusing fight scene.

Correction: No, Rhonda does not "disappear" on page 35. Page 34 shows the band mid-performance, with Hogwild on drums. On page 35, there are 3 panels – 2 upper individual panels over a large lower panel. The 2 upper panels are connected via Ellen Fox's hand/paw whoosh, as Fox flings her guitar at Rhonda when the band is done performing. The lower panel is a wide shot, with a subject change (in the time it takes for Hogwild to stand up from the drums and walk toward Fox, Rhonda walks away), and this panel shows the 3 members of the band, Ellen Fox, Pam, and Hogwild, now all standing side by side.

Toy Story 4 (2019)

Corrected entry: When the stroller rolls out of the antique store and crashes into the railing, in the shot where the lady runs up to it, look at the attendant inside the ticket booth in the background. She is completely frozen, with no animation on her at all. (01:17:05)

zenee

Correction: This is simply wrong. The attendant can be seen moving and reacting to what’s going on.

You are likely referring to the shot before the stroller crashes into the railing. The attendant is moving there, but after the stroller crashes and the lady runs up to it, she becomes motionless.

zenee

Correction: When the lady runs up to the crashed baby carriage, in this shot the attendant in the booth in the background (seen in this specific shot for 2 seconds) you described as "motionless" and "frozen, with no animation on her at all." This attendant's stance and facial expression realistically convey shock at what has just happened, so she stands there staring with her eyes wide open and her mouth agape for the 2 seconds. Her animation is appropriate for this situation. There's really no mistake, and there's nothing revealing about it.

Super Grover

I suppose I put this mistake under the wrong category, but I never stated that the attendant doesn't react to what happened. You mentioned her stance and facial expression, and I agree with that. But here's the thing: the attendant is standing still, which is fine, but there is no movement to make her look... well, alive. As a result, she looks like a statue. It's an animation error. That's what I'm saying. If I'm still wrong, please explain why, because it really doesn't look right to me.

zenee

Within the 2 seconds this attendant is visible, she doesn't look like a statue; she just looks completely transfixed and shocked - perfectly appropriate for the moment. And actually, movement to make her look "alive" is unnecessary because for those 2 seconds she's seen, the fact that she's standing there transfixed, with her shocked expression, is quite human in this instance. Her animation does not appear odd or weird in any way, to me.

Super Grover

I mean, she still looks off to me, but fair enough, I suppose.

zenee

I watched this shot a few more times; it's starting to look a bit more natural. I guess with it being a 3D character model, it looked like there wasn't any sign of life with no motion added to her, hence my original thoughts. Despite all that, your argument about her just being appropriately transfixed and shocked is growing on me.
