Continuity mistake: At Minas Tirith there is a wide shot of Gandalf on the balcony, and as he begins to cough while he smokes, Pippin lies in the bed behind him. Yet, in the very next close-up, as Gandalf continues to cough, Pippin now stands beside the bed, with his new Gondorian garments actually spread out on the made bed in front of him. Continuity mistake: When Éowyn whips off her helmet and stabs the Witch King, her hair is neatly parted, long and straight. Yet, as she crawls in pain, away from Gothmog, her hair is in nothing less than a total mess. Then when Éowyn, still injured, crawls to Theoden her hair is once again nice and tidy. Continuity mistake: Sam and Frodo wear the Orc armor and slide down the rocky terrain. After they spot the army of Orcs approaching the run off to the side and sit. In the next few wide shots the rocky area behind and around them is completely different. (Extended Edition) (01:00:45)

Continuity mistake: Gandalf says, "This is the One Ring, forged by the Dark Lord Sauron," and next is a side shot of Frodo pouring tea as Gandalf sits at the table. The Ring is beside the small light colored creamer at the edge of the table, with the spout's interior perfectly visible. In the next close-up of the Ring from Frodo's POV, as Gandalf says, "For 60 years..." the very dark colored glaze on the rim and spout of the creamer are visible. Obviously not the same creamer in the shots from this POV. Then in the close-ups of the Ring from Gandalf's POV, like when he says, "...and the Ring survived," not only do the crumbs differ, the actual table differs - the wood's grain is completely different. Continuity mistake: When Bug speaks with the beautiful widow the second time, about performing a noninvasive autopsy on her husband, her long hair continually changes position in the shots that face her.

Continuity mistake: At the Black Gate, as the Mouth of Sauron speaks, in the wide shots Gimli's height is way above Legolas' shoulders and is blocked by the bow and knives. However, in the close-ups he barely reaches Legolas' shoulders and is blocked by neither the bow or knives. Similarly this occurs in many shots throughout. (Extended Edition) (01:09:20)

Continuity mistake: Gandalf enters the Tomb of the Stewards and in the shot facing him he grabs the guard's spear. The guard on the opposite side stands against the wall as he holds the spear in his right hand and walks toward the center of the hallway as he watches Gandalf ride. Yet, in the next shot facing Denethor, the guard now holds the spear in his left hand as he stands with his back against the wall again.

Continuity mistake: After the incident with the Whomping Willow, the dirt smudges all over Harry and Hermione's clothes change appearance and/or position in the following shots. (01:29:30)

Continuity mistake: In the Shrieking Shack, when Harry sends Snape flying into the bed, the canopy collapses in the stunt. In this shot the metal bars at the top of the canopy frame are visible, whereas in the following shots it is no longer there. The way the canopy frame actually hangs after stunt differs considerably and the draperies hanging on the bed differ in the shots prior, during and after the stunt. (01:33:55)

Continuity mistake: After Fred and George hand over the Marauder's Map to Harry, he looks down and spots Dumbledore pacing in his study, though in this shot Harry does not actually look at the upper right corner of the map, where Dumbledore's study is located. (01:00:05)

Continuity mistake: When Fred and George give Harry the Marauder's Map, Harry opens it up and on the right is Dumbledore's study. In the close-up shot of Dumbledore's study, the map is drawn with much more elaborate detail for fun and dramatic flair and the actual words of the interlocking circles are written on the map extremely differently than the previous shot. Continuity mistake: During CoMC class, after Hagrid coughs, says, "Ta da!" and gestures toward Buckbeak, there is a shot of the students and Hermione's Monster Book of Monsters lies open on the huge rock. In the next close-up of Hermione, her book is closed and partially buckled. When Ron asks, "Hagrid...what is that?" her book lies open again. Books lying near Hermione's change in consecutive shots as well, including the one held by the girl beside Neville. (00:33:20)

Continuity mistake: When Trelawney asks Ron to look in Harry's cup and read the tea leaves, the Grim within the cup is visible. When Harry looks in the cup the Grim is different, for example, it has an open mouth in this shot. (00:30:20)

Continuity mistake: On the Hogwarts Express, Lupin pulls out his wand to repel the Dementor attacking Harry. In the shot facing Lupin his shirt sleeve is mostly covered by his suit sleeve and he holds the wand a particular way. In the next close-up facing the Dementor, Lupin's arm is visible and a much greater area of his shirt sleeve is now seen and he holds the wand completely differently. (00:22:15)

Continuity mistake: As Marge is inflating, there is a close-up of her knees, as the skirt rises revealing the garters. In this close-up her cloth napkin is on the table right in front of her, though in the previous and following shots it is on the floor. (00:04:45)

Continuity mistake: In the first shot at dinner, when Marge says, "Finish that off for Mommy...Rippy-pooh," she places her plate down on the carpet for Ripper. In the view under the table, Harry's and Vernon's legs are visible and Vernon walks past Dudley. In the next shot, Vernon comes from the side and walks past again. (00:02:25)

Continuity mistake: Before Hagrid's lesson begins, Malfoy yells, "Dementor! Dementor!" and they all spin around. Ron and Hermione stand beside one another in the first and third shots, yet in the middle shot facing Malfoy, they're a good distance apart. As a matter of fact, in most shots throughout this entire scene many of the students' positions and actions change and/or shift back and forth in consecutive shots, some quite drastically.
