Continuity mistake: At Hagrid's hut, when he places the dragon egg on the table, the book lies right next to the cup and saucer. Yet in the shots looking up from the edge of the table, directly in front of Hagrid and the egg/Norbert, the book and cup/saucer are far apart for these particular shots. (01:39:50)

Continuity mistake: When trying to catch Neville's Remembrall, Harry flies straight for McGonagall's window. The window visible in the wide shot has a horizontal beam that crosses the center vertical beam, yet the window visible in the close-up just has the vertical beam. The number of stones at the sides differ as well. (00:58:30)

Continuity mistake: During Madame Hooch's flying lesson, in a close-up Ron says, "Up! Up!" to his broomstick. In the next wide shot of all the students, Ron stands next to Harry, who holds his broomstick, and just before it cuts to the next shot, Ron visibly grips his broomstick as it floats up to his hand, as well Seamus, who grabs hold of his too. Yet, in the next shot Seamus still says, "Up! Up!" and in Ron's next close-up, he still says, "Up!" to his broomstick still lying on the ground, which promptly smacks him in the head. (00:55:30)

Continuity mistake: When Madame Hooch approaches and then welcomes the class to their first flying lesson, the angle at which their shadows are cast changes dramatically in consecutive shots throughout this scene; and in some shots there are no shadows. (00:55:00)

Continuity mistake: When Harry walks into the kitchen, Petunia tells him to take care of the breakfast and two of Dudley's presents, the blue design and the yellow, are visible on the couch. When Petunia asks, "Aren't they wonderful darling?" the camera pans the presents, including the ones from the earlier shot. When Vernon says, "Well some of them are quite a bit bigger than last year's," the two presents are again visible. The position of these gifts differs in all shots. (00:04:50)

Continuity mistake: After Lockhart releases the pixies there is an overhead shot of Neville being lifted to the ceiling while students down below start to flee the classroom, including Malfoy and Goyle. In the next shot as Malfoy and Goyle, who are still at the desks, start to run towards the camera, Lockhart is visibly running up the stairs in the background, though in the following shots he's downstairs. Continuity mistake: In the overhead wide shot, before Madame Hooch says, "Good afternoon, class," as she approaches, each student stands directly behind the bristles of their broomsticks, yet in the next shot as the camera pans their feet, they stand between the bristles of their broom and the neighboring broom. Continuity mistake: While Harry lies on the floor at the hut on the rock, with his finger he draws birthday candles atop the birthday cake. When Dudley's watch hits 12:00, in the next shot of Harry, the candles visible on the floor do not resemble the ones in the previous and following shots. (00:12:35)

Continuity mistake: After Dudley shouts, "Wake up, Potter! We're going to the zoo," he pushes Harry back into the cupboard and runs into the kitchen. When he opens the door, the kitchen floor is visible and there are no floor mats. Yet, once Harry walks into the kitchen there is a taped black mat on the floor at the door and another black mat at the counter, under the stools that were visible in the previous shot, when Petunia bangs on the cupboard door. Continuity mistake: While Harry and Hagrid stand beside Hogwarts Express, in the shot looking up at Hagrid as he takes the album out of his pocket, his thumb is on the back cover as he begins to say, "This is for you," yet in the next shot of Harry taking the album, Hagrid's thumb is on the front cover. Continuity mistake: Harry speaks with Quirrell near the Mirror of Erised and the arrangement of the cloth in his turban differs in two shots than in the rest of the shots. First in the shot facing Harry as Quirrell says, "While everyone else was running about the dungeon, he went to the third floor to head me off," and then in the back shot just before Quirrell unwraps the turban, after Voldemort says, "I have strength enough for this." Continuity mistake: After Harry opens the package with the invisibility cloak, he stands near the red chair and when he says, "I don't know, some kind of cloak," the cards on the back board are visible. As Ron says, "Well let's see then. Put it on," he holds a Bertie Botts box in his left hand and has his right hand in the box. Next shot facing Harry, Ron visibly holds the box with his right hand and the positions of the pillow, cushion, envelope and letter differ on the red chair. As the next shot opens facing Ron, he holds the box in his left hand and his right hand is in the box. Then in the next shot facing Harry again, the bottom card on the back board is gone. (01:27:50)

Continuity mistake: The knotted tie string on Harry's Quidditch robe changes from extremely loose, to snug, to loose and so on, even in consecutive shots, from the time Harry speaks with Wood before they fly onto the pitch and throughout the match. Continuity mistake: As Hermione walks toward the troll, just before she asks, "Is it dead?" the long towel hanging from the rod beside the sinks is visibly straight. When Harry lifts his wand with troll booger/bogey, in the shot of him as he grimaces and groans, the towel on the rod is visible behind him and it's messy. Yet when McGonagall, Snape and Quirrell walk in, the long towel is straight again. (01:12:00)

Continuity mistake: As Hermione hides under the sinks the troll smashes the front basin of the second sink on the right, leaving its faucets and surrounding sinks intact. Though in a view of the entire lavatory when the troll holds Harry upside down, from behind Hermione, the entire second sink, its faucets and trim are entirely missing and the entire fourth sink, which was never touched, is as well, both are gone. When the troll is knocked out, as Hermione stands up and moves toward Harry and Ron, though the faucets of the second sink are back, the front basin of the second sink is visibly broken again just as in the original shot, and the entire fourth sink is still inexplicably gone in this shot. Continuity mistake: When Harry, Ron and Hermione are in the lavatory with the troll, the scattered wood pieces of the damaged cubicles change positions in consecutive shots throughout. For example, just before and after the troll drops Harry, in the close-ups of Harry the wood differs from the consecutive overhead shots. (01:11:35)

Continuity mistake: At Platform 9 3/4, when Mrs. Weasley says, "All right, Percy, you first," as Percy walks in front of her she holds her bags in her left hand. Yet in the next shot as Percy still walks in front of her, she holds her bags in her right hand. (00:32:25)

Continuity mistake: Mr. Ollivander says, "I wondered when I'd be seeing you Mr. Potter," and as he climbs down the ladder Harry is standing at the middle of the desk, away from the corner. In the next shot as Mr. Ollivander searches for a wand case Harry stands at the corner of the desk. However, in the next shot Harry stands at the middle again. (00:25:30)

Continuity mistake: When Hagrid is in Gringotts, in the shot facing Hagrid when he says, "Professor Dumbledore gave me this," his index and middle finger are on the side of the writing as he hands the letter to the Goblin Bank Teller, yet in the next two shots, Hagrid's thumb is on the side of the writing in front, as he hands the letter over. Continuity mistake: As Hagrid aims his 'umbrella' at Dudley while he eats Harry's birthday cake, in the side shot one end of the blue string (that was tied around the cake box) hangs down the side of the table, but when Vernon rushes Petunia and Dudley off, in this shot that end of the string lies on top of the table. Yet, when Hagrid says, "We're a bit behind schedule. Best be off," the string hangs off the side again. (00:17:30)
