Question: How accurate is this film to portraying what actually happened? Such as the three sprinters tripping, Dorice tracking down an ex-bobsled cheat and then entering the Olympics with three months practice time, them chasing the sled on their first push start, them beating the Swiss's start time, etc.
Answer: Only part of this is accurate. The sprinters did in fact trip and almost fall in the Olympics. There was one member of the team who did join just a few months ahead of the games but not a former cheater. The basic idea of the bobsled is to get off a huge start, then get in smoothly. The only person who needs a tonne of experience is the driver or else the sled can flip over on the track, which incidentally it did both in the film and at the Olympics. Also, they did lose the sled on startup once and almost did several other times too. Finally they did beat the Swiss start time, however, Jamaicans tend to be strong sprinters, which is just one element of the race.
Question: In the movie it's well established that symbols are different from one gate to another. How, then, do the SG teams know the code to Earth from any gate in the network?
Answer: The Gate addresses are made up of the constellations in the night sky above the planet the person is trying to Gate to with the exception of the first & last. The first is the planet of origin (eg. Earth - a pyramid with one moon above it) & the last is the planet you are trying to Gate to (eg. Abydos - a pyramid with three moons above it). As long as you remember the constellations & know the two planet symbols you should be able to Gate home again.
Answer: This is one of the differences from the movie to the series. In the movie, each gate had completely different sets of symbols corresponding to the constellations in that gate's planets sky. In the series, the gates were more standardized, with the same constellation symbols regardless of where the gate way in the galaxy. The only difference between gates being their own unique point of origin symbol. Therefore, whenever anyone dials Earth from any other planet, they would enter the exact same sequence of six symbols on the DHD followed by that gates unique origin symbol. The point of origin on any given gate/DHD would therefore be the one symbol the dialling person had never seen elsewhere and would be the only symbol they would consciously have to think about and find before dialling.
Question: Where could one obtain recordings of USA's 1980 Olympic hockey games in their entirety?
Chosen answer: You probably wont ever be able to get all the games in their entirety. The biggest obstacle with recorded events and games from the Olympics is the high price of licensing them so its near impossible to obtain entire matches on DVD or VHS and in many cases catching replays of the full game in the future. Many sports channels on cable tv will be your best bet including the US channel ESPN Classic. If you were looking for something to buy the closest you will probably get is a DVD or VHS called "Do You Believe in Miracles? The Story of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team (2001)".
Question: How did the people behind the film achieve the effect of making the actors look like ghosts. I truly have no idea.
Chosen answer: For the most part, the actors playing the ghosts were shot separately on blue-screens, and then comped into the scenes. (By removing the blue background through a process called "color keying", and placing them over the scenes) They were simply given a blueish glow and made semi-translucent to complete the effect. It was pretty cutting edge back in the 90's, but nowadays, it'd be very easy to make the exact same effect using a simple program like Adobe After Effects.
Question: As Rameses is getting dressed by his servants, Nefretiri stops one servant and takes a sword from him. The shot then cuts to Rameses getting dressed and then Nefretiri comes to give him the sword. What exactly did she do with it: did she stab her dead son (who is placed on that statue), or did she do something else?
Answer: I have always thought she stabbed her dead son. It's obvious she does something with it other than just give it to Rameses.
She doesn't do anything other than give him the sword. She's trying to dramatically convince Ramses to kill Moses. In countless stories, one character will tell another character to kill someone while handing them a weapon.
Answer: She gave the sword to Ramses and told him to bring it back with Moses' blood on it.
Answer: She didn't do anything with it. She took the sword so she could help dress her husband herself.
Question: In the scene where Lyle returns, he tells his missionaries to subdue George. I think one of them is a young Colin Farrell, but I didn't see his name in the credits. Did he have an uncredited role? Can someone help, as I don't have the DVD to check up on it?
Answer: There's certainly no listing for him on the IMDb, which is generally good with uncredited appearances. Farrell was still working in the UK and Ireland at the time of the film, which was entirely US shot, and didn't become involved in Hollywood productions until about the year 2000, three years after GOTJ came out, which would seem to make it extremely unlikely that he appeared in it.
Answer: So frustrating that only three of the mercenaries are credited when there are 5 of them! I agree that one looks exactly like Colin Farrell.
Answer: No Collin Farrell was not in the movie.
Question: One of the corrections says that there is a scene where Obi-Wan talks about duck with Luke. Where is this scene? I can't seem to find it.
Answer: There's no version of the film that this appears in, and I've checked the original, the special edition and the DVD release. I believe that it was in the original novelisation, but that the scene was either cut before release, or the author simply added it to flesh things out. In any event, it shouldn't be considered a canonical scene, so the correction in question should probably be considered invalid.
Question: Does anyone know what the joke is about Matt Damon always calling out his name? Is it supposed to be a reference to something?
Answer: I read an interview with Trey Parker and Matt Stone where they said that they had not intended for it to be that way but that when they made the Matt Damon puppet, it looked so retarded that they thought it would be funny to just have him be retarded in the movie and only say his name. They said it was nothing personal against Matt Damon.
Question: Anyone know the significance of the 'R', in March, blinking red when the Walrus is speaking with the Oysters?
Answer: Oysters are seasonal (depending on where you go), often only available on months with an R in them (ie. September - April). The "R" theory just developed by coincidence as that 6ish month period happens to only contain months with an R in (in English, anyway).
Question: What ever happened to the pilot that was captured by the Somalians (who had the picture of his wife and child), did he get rescued or killed?
Answer: Mike Durant was released 11 days after his capture. He retired from the Army a few years later and published a book about his time in the 160th.
Question: What exactly is the baby's power, shown at the end of the film?
Answer: It's the power to morph into anything/anyone. Kind of like Mystique from X-men. However, in the animated short Jack-Jack Attack he not only morphs, but displays other powers (zero gravity, etc.) so he must have several powers.
Question: I'm actually wondering if any other fans out there can spot students from Ravenclaw and Huffelpuff throughout the film? I've watched a lot of classroom scenes a few times and can only ever see Griffyndor and Slytherin students. Even in the choir scene it's difficult to make them out and I'm still not sure there are any. The new uniform colours make it quite difficult to spot them as: Slytherin wear dark green, Ravenclaw dark blue, Griffyndor dark red, and Huffelpuff dark yellow.
Answer: In the choir scene, the girl directly in front with the brown hair and pigtails, is from Ravenclaw. You can tell because of her blue lining.
Question: How old are Violet and Dash?
Answer: Dash's dad said that he was graduating to the 5th grade so he must be around 9 or 10. I'm guessing that Violet's most likely around 13 or 14 years old considering she is in middle school.
Isn't Violet in high school? That would be between 14 and 18. And 5th graders are age 10 to 11, I would say more likely to be 10.
Question: Is any of the back story concerning the hood and Tintin's father from the tv series itself and does Tintin ever develop telepathic abilities in the tv series as in the movie?
Answer: The backstory in the TV series is that Kyrano (Tintin's father) and the Hood are half brothers, giving the Hood the ability to control Kyrano by hyponosis, by staring at a statue of him in his jungle palace. And no, in the TV series Tintin never develops telepathic abilities.
Question: When David is flicking through the channels on the TV, I am sure you can see a guy standing to his left, just on the other side of the curtain. (If you look behind his head, you may be able to see his mouth and nose.) Can anyone tell me if they see this too, or am I wrong?
Answer: There is nobody there. The only thing behind David's head is a poster of an actor.
Question: The music video for Ray Parker Jr's hit song features several celebrities who lip-sync to the word "Ghostbusters". Is there a complete list of all the celebrities in the video?
Answer: Chevy Chase, John Candy, Danny DeVito, Peter Falk, Mellisa Gilbert, Carly Simon, Teri Gar, and George Wendt, along with the four major stars of Ghostbusters themselves.
Question: I saw various scenes in the preview of the movie that do not appear in the film itself. Some include Kell being cut in half, and then both halves regenerating into two different Kells. Another was Kell blowing on some floating globe that explodes with the image of his face. This made "Endgame" look like the third film where the villain was the illusionist Kane, but when I saw the movie, these scenes were taken out and the villain had no such powers. What happened to these scenes? What were they about? And are they available anywhere in any earlier cuts of the film? I could not find them in the early cut feature on the DVD...
Answer: The scenes you mention were only meant to be part of the trailer. This was to show that Jacob Kell was the "most powerful" immortal yet. The 'cut in half' scene is playing on the idea that Kell is unbeatable. I suggest rewatching the trailer with these ideas in mind. It may make more sense. These scenes were what Dimension Films wasted a hefty portion of the promotional and marketing budgets on. There was NEVER any script written that included them, nor any version of the film that ever included them.
