Boy Meets World (1993)

Question: In the last shot of the knight waving goodbye to the Joneses, is it just me or has the actor been swapped out with a dummy?

Phaneron

Answer: It is the real actor and not a robotic dummy. He moves a bit slowly and deliberately, apparently for effect, but it's a real person.

raywest

Just to be clear, I'm not referring to when we see the knight raise his hand to wave goodbye to them, but rather right after Indy says "Please Dad," and he and Henry begin to flee the collapsing temple, you can see the knight in the background with his arm raised and he looks rather stiff. You can see it at around 2:22 of this clip: https://youtu.be/PAfZ7V2VyD8.

Phaneron

I took a closer look. There is the shot where the knight raises his hand and you can see him moving. It then cuts to Indy and Henry, then a cut back to the knight where it briefly looks like it could be a mannequin, then there is another cut and back to the knight again and this time it's definitely the live actor. So yes, for that brief long shot, I think it could be a dummy. This may have been for the purpose of efficiency in the filming, it being easier to use a stationary prop for doing multiple takes, rather than the live actor just standing there. Sometimes they do what is called "pick up" shots, where, post-production, a part of a scene or close-ups are re-shot or added weeks or months later, and it would just be easier to use mannequin rather than recall the actor.

raywest

But he does move, so most likely a real person.

Question: Is the Canyon of the Crescent Moon a real place, or was the shot of the canyon as seen from Donovan's binoculars just a place created for the film?

Phaneron

Chosen answer: The Canyon of the Crescent Moon is fictional, but based on the real entrance to the Treasury (Al Khazna). The Bab as-Sīq is the wide valley leading to the Sīq, the narrow gorge entry.

Everybody Loves Stuart - S6-E7

Audio problem: When Eric walks into Cory's hearing to the theme of "The People's Court," we find out the sound is coming from a tape player in his briefcase. When he opens up the briefcase and pulls out the tape player to stop it, the volume remains the same. The volume should have increased once he opened the briefcase. (00:14:30)

X-Men (1992)

Trivia: Following Disney's acquisition of Fox, the creators of this show pitched a revival to stream on Disney+. Producer Larry Houston has said he would come out of retirement specifically to work on this. The revival - titled X-Men '97 - was announced on Disney+ Day in November of 2021 for a 2024 premiere date, with much of the surviving original cast returning.

Question: Does anyone know why Gambit was featured less and less in episodes as the show went on? He was one of the most popular characters in not just X-Men, but all of Marvel Comics around the time this series first aired, so unless it had something to do with his voice actor's contract, it seems odd they wouldn't have utilized him more.

Phaneron

Answer: Chris Potter, the original Gambit voice actor, did indeed quit the role in the 4th season. His last episode was The Phalanx Covenant Part 1 so it seems reasonable that Fox would limit the use of the character even though it was recast. It doesn't appear that Potter left the role due to animosity, he stated in an interview that he wished to play Gambit in the first live action X-Men film.

Question: How could Belloq know/believe that the Ark is a powerful artifact, but also be completely oblivious to the Bible specifically mentioning that some Bethshemites were smitten for gazing into it and Uzzah was smitten for touching it?

Phaneron

Answer: There were probably many reasons. Propelled by greed, he may simply have chosen to filter out certain aspects of the biblical text, believing what he wanted to believe. He may have misinterpreted or had not bothered with the details of what was written in the bible.

raywest

Add in that he was hired by the Nazis to do the job of finding and utilizing the Ark. He had to make sure it worked so he could present it to Hitler.

Question: After Darth Vader betrays the Empire and kills the Emperor, who, for the very brief period of time that the Empire was still around, would have risen to the top of the chain of command?

Phaneron

Chosen answer: The Empire splintered a bit after the death of the Emperor. Some members of the Imperial Council attempted to grab territories in order to maintain some form of power. Others attempted to carry on as if nothing had happened and told the people that the Emperor had escaped the destruction of the Death Star. Officially, the new leader of the Empire was Grand Admiral Sloane, who commanded the Imperial Navy. She enacted the Emperor's contingency plan, called Operation Cinder, which was essentially destroying everything because of the Emperor's death.

Sloane was one of three potential leaders when the Emperor died: the other two were Gallius Rax and Mas Amedda. In the end, Rax sidelined the others and became the leader of the Empire, although Sloane was the public face of the leadership.

Question: What exactly are the spirits that emerge from the Ark? I get that they are malevolent ghosts, but what is the purpose of them first emerging from the Ark as beautiful women? Are they supposed to be the ghosts of women from Babylonia, or Jerusalem, or any other significant location from Biblical times?

Phaneron

Answer: They are angels. They are initially beautiful, but become terrifying when they destroy those who look at them. That's why Indy and Marion are spared, as they keep their eyes shut.

Hogs and Kisses - S6-E6

Continuity mistake: When Eric and Jack place the red tablecloth on their counter, it barely drapes over the end of the counter that is facing the camera and completely covers the side that is on the viewer's left. A couple of shots later, the tablecloth is draped over the same end of the counter down to the floor, and the left side is now exposed. (00:05:06)

Better than Average Cory - S6-E5

Deliberate mistake: When Rachel is choking and writes down "I'm choking to death" on the paper on the counter so Jack will help her, you can see she is just scribbling the pen across the paper and not actually writing anything. (00:06:36)

Dick Tracy (1990)

Answer: His full name was Richard Tracy, but it was used seldomly.

Chosen answer: It's a bit ambiguous. Tracy's creator, Chester Gould, originally named his character, "Plainclothes Tracy," until an editor suggested changing it to Dick Tracy. A "dick" is a dated slang term for a cop or a private detective. Dick appears to be Tracy's first name, but it is also descriptive of his profession. This is called a "double entendre." It's typical for authors to contrive a name that reflects their characters.

Trevor - S6-E17

Other mistake: This episode establishes that whenever Pinker Rawls passes through solid matter, his clothes remain behind, as anything he is wearing does not share his ability. However, late in the episode when Jackie throws the pot of boiling hot soup at him, the soup is shown to completely pass through his shirt, when it should have stuck to his shirt instead.

His Answer (1) - S6-E1

Other mistake: When Mr. Feeny is telling the story about Topanga and Cory in the first grade, he mentions that Shawn told him to leave them alone. However, the season 3 episode "City Slackers" established that Shawn wasn't in school with Cory and Topanga until he was around 12, and that he was in and out of 5 schools in different states before then. His Answer (1) - S6-E1

Continuity mistake: When Rachel tackles Jack onto the couch and is straddling him, Jack's head ends up resting on the green and yellow pillow on the cushion closest to the door. After Jack says "She's sittin' on me, man," the shot changes and his head is now on the middle cushion. (00:16:06)
