Puppet Master II (1991)

Trivia: The reason Leach Woman was "killed off" in this movie was reportedly because executives at Paramount hated the puppet and demanded she be written out of the movie. However, the puppet was actually pretty popular with audiences, so she was eventually written back into the series.

Objects in Space - S1-E10

Trivia: Just an interesting thing to note. The villain of the episode is an unhinged character named "Jubal Early," and is played by Richard Brooks. Six years earlier in 1996, Brooks starred in the film "The Crow: City of Angels," where he also appeared as a similarly unhinged villain... with the remarkably similar name "Judah Earl." Just a fun, odd coincidence.

Continuity mistake: SPOILERS: During the final scene, when Samuel L. Jackson is "puppeted" to lift his arm up to make it look like he's pointing a gun at the SWAT team, the number of laser-sights visible on his chest changes between cuts. In the wide-shot, there's only three, but when it punches into a close-up, suddenly there are five.

The Haunting (1963)

Trivia: In an early draft of the script, the story was re-written so that Hill House was actually a mental hospital where Eleanor was a patient, and the other characters were doctors and staff. It would be revealed that Eleanor was mentally ill and was misinterpreting the things around her as being supernatural in origin. However, this idea was discarded and the film was re-written to be more faithful to the original novel.

The Haunting (1963)

Trivia: Julie Harris was very aloof during filming and would often ignore her co-stars behind the scenes - especially Claire Bloom. Bloom felt very hurt by this. However, after filming, Harris showed up at Bloom's house with a gift and revealed that she actually really liked Bloom and her other co-stars. She behaved as she did during filming because she was trying to stay in-character between takes, and was worried that her performance as an outsider would suffer if she was friendly with her co-stars.

Mystery Men (1999)

Trivia: At the tryouts, you can actually find some familiar faces. Comedian Dane Cook plays "Waffleman" in a cameo. Dana Gould also appears in a cameo as "Squeegeeman." And "Pencilhead" is played by Doug Jones, who is perhaps best known for playing roles under heavy makeup, appearing in films like "Hellboy," "Pan's Labyrinth" and "The Shape of Water" as various monsters and creatures.

Suggested correction: This isn't trivia since all 3 are credited for their roles. Plus, Dane Cook plays "The Waffler", not "Waffleman."

Trivia: The new puppet seen in the film was nicknamed "Mr. Snuggles" behind-the-scenes.

Mystery Men (1999)

Trivia: The shoot was very hectic. Most of the cast were played by comedians/comedic actors, and they constantly were trying to one-up one another and arguing over the comedic tone of the film.

General questions

I remember seeing a "Star Wars" knockoff on TV years ago. I believe it was from the late 70's or early 80's. I don't remember much about it other than a scene that was copying the Death Star trench-run scene, where a couple spaceships were flying down this sort-of mechanical tunnel with really iffy special effects. I seem to remember the scene being overly red/orange tinted. I also think this may have been a foreign film (like Japanese), but I'm not 100% sure. Ring anyone's bell?

TedStixon

Answer: There is a Japanese one called Message from Space.

I looked it up on YouTube. This is the closest answer at this point because there is a somewhat similar scene, but I'm still pretty sure that's not it... it doesn't really match up perfectly with what I remember.

TedStixon

Answer: In 1978 there was a short film parody titled, "Hardware Wars," made on a very low budget and used carpenter tools as space ships.

Answer: OP here. Another detail of the scene that I remember is that the scene looked kinda like it was done with cut-outs. Like pictures of the spaceships instead of models, if that makes any sense. Like the ships all looked "flat." And most of the camera angles seemed to be either POV's of the "hero" ship, or shots from behind. If memory serves, there were also some enemy ships. The tunnel was more of a cylinder than a trench. Like it went completely around all the ships. And like I said, the entire scene had kind of a red/orange tint.

TedStixon

Answer: If it was blue light instead of red/orange, you may be thinking of Starcrash. Although I would think you would have remembered Caroline Munro wearing what the Mystery Science Theater crew described as "vampire lingerie."

I don't believe it was "Star Crash." I scanned through a couple movies looking for the scene in question before posting this and couldn't find it in that movie.

TedStixon

Answer: There is a, I believe, Turkish version out there as well.

kayelbe

Definitely not "Turkish Star Wars." I've seen a fair bit of that movie.

TedStixon

Answer: This could be "Spaceballs," the 1987 Mel Brooks film that parodies "Star Wars."

raywest

Definitely not "Spaceballs." This movie was probably made before it and wasn't a parody from what I can remember.
