Trivia: Doctor Strange casts a spell on the pizza vendor, played by Bruce Campbell, that forces him to repeatedly hit himself. This is similar to a scene from Evil Dead II, which sees Ash, also played by Bruce Campbell, attacked by his own possessed hand.
Trivia: SPOILER: This marks the first appearance in film for a member of the Inhumans, with Black Bolt being a member of the Illuminati. The Inhumans were originally supposed to have their own movie as part of the MCU's phase 3, but it was scrapped and adapted into a negatively received TV series on ABC, which was canceled after one season. Anson Mount, who plays Black Bolt here, also played Black Bolt in the TV series.
Trivia: During Strange's meeting with the Illuminati, Professor X says that just because someone stumbles and loses their way, it doesn't mean they are lost forever. He says the same thing to his younger self in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Trivia: The 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 that is featured in nearly every Sam Raimi film can be seen floating in the air when Doctor Strange and Christine first arrive in the universe of the corrupted Doctor Strange.
Trivia: The scene in which Wanda gets angry and screams "Stop it!" at her variant's children was real. The boys were throwing things at her for part of the scene, and accidentally smacked Elizabeth Olsen hard in the face, hurting her. But they didn't realise they hurt her and kept throwing things. Seconds later, she reflexively screamed "Stop it!", legitimately terrifying them. She immediately felt terrible about snapping at them, but it worked for the scene - it was the take used in the final movie.
Trivia: When Doctor Strange and America Chavez first travel through numerous universes, they pass through a space showing multiple heads with glowing eyes. This is the Living Tribunal, who was referenced in the first film.
Trivia: The version of Doctor Strange seen at the very beginning of the film has been dubbed "Defender Strange." This is because his outfit is taken from the comics when he was a member of the Defenders.
Trivia: SPOILER: The woman who approaches Doctor Strange in the mid-credits scene is Clea, who in the comics is one of Strange's disciples and love interests. She is also Dormammu's niece, in the comics at least.
Trivia: Following the release of the second trailer, Patrick Stewart jokingly denied his involvement in the film, stating that he was at home watching the trailer, so it couldn't have been him, and insisting that someone was impersonating his voice.
Trivia: SPOILER The film marks the third time that Patrick Stewart playing Professor X has died. The first time was in X-men 3 (2006). The second time was in Logan (2017). So his death in this makes it three times.
Trivia: There is a persistent rumor that Daniel Craig was going to have a cameo as a member of the Illuminati. Craig allegedly would have played Balder the Brave, a sibling of Thor. While it has not been 100% confirmed, reports suggest Craig was cast in the role, but ultimately dropped out due to a sudden rise in COVID cases during the film's production. (He didn't want to risk travelling and getting his family sick.) Thus, the character was simply written out and replaced with another Marvel hero.
Trivia: The identity of the film's main antagonist was the subject of much speculation in the months leading up to its release. Nightmare was rumored, and the release of a toy line for the film showed action figures for the characters Sleepwalker and D'Spayre, neither of whom actually appear in the film.
Trivia: The six members of the Illuminati in the film are Mordo, Maria Rambeau, Captain Carter, Reed Richards, Professor X, and Black Bolt. The latter three are also members in the comics, however, the other three slots in its original incarnation were occupied by Doctor Strange, Namor, and Iron Man.
