The Punisher (2017)

The Whirlwind - S2-E13

Other mistake: During the shootout in the hotel rooms, Pilgrim and Frank are shooting a lot at each other through the wall, with multiple holes appearing as expected. They then swap rooms (Pilgrim going through the adjoining door, Frank down the corridor), and we see Frank shooting at Pilgrim from the opposite angle. Problem is we see bullet holes appearing in the undamaged wall behind Pilgrim - given that room was just being riddled with bullets there should already be plenty of bullet holes in that far wall.

Trivia: Screenwriter Jonathan Hensleigh was interviewed by the FBI because of the detail in his script. They wanted to know how he knew so much about the Federal Reserve, the connected subway spur, aqueduct, etc. He simply told them the truth - the Federal Reserve let him look around as research. They showed him the plans, told him about the subway spur, and the aqueduct was mentioned in a magazine. He was worried they were going to arrest him at first, but they ended up telling him that the plan in the film was actually feasible, and made changes to ensure it wouldn't work in future.

Jon Sandys

Question: This gets described as a reboot rather than a sequel, but why? Nothing directly contradicts the original, as far as I'm aware, the only real change is the title character being recast - hardly unusual for a franchise.

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: I haven't seen this movie in several years, but one contradiction I distinctly remember is the Punisher having a deceased daughter in this film, whereas in the 2004 film, he only had a son. The 2004 film had the Punisher's wife and son (named Will here) murdered in Puerto Rico and buried and Tampa. This film takes place in New York, and the cemetery the Punisher goes to has a gravestone for his wife, daughter and son (named Frank, Jr. here). There is also a brief flashback in this scene of the Punisher sitting on a picnic blanket with his dead family around him, which is closer to the comics origin where his family were collateral damage in a gang crossfire. The 2004 film depicted his family as being the deliberate targets of a mob hit and were run over by a truck on a pier.

The Good Place (2016)

The Book of Dougs - S3-E10

Other mistake: When Michael is looking at the 2009 report about Doug giving his Grandmother flowers, the net total for the action is -4 points. But the totals are off. The positives add up to about 73 points, but just the negatives that we see are 162, making the net total at least -89. While the header implies only the "top" points are known, the numbers start tailing off drastically after the first few, so there's no way there are enough not mentioned to make up the difference, otherwise they'd be classified as "top" too.

Future Man (2017)

PUP-E Q. Barkington - S2-E9

Wolf: If I could absorb all the world's pain before it touched you, I'd do it. But I also cut a guy's arm off like 10 minutes ago, so I'm kind of a mixed bag, parent-wise.

The Orville (2017)

Primal Urges - S2-E2

Character mistake: The radiation on the planet's surface is a problem, and the exposure between the shuttle and the entrance to the underground caverns is specifically highlighted as the main risk. And yet when landing the shuttle, they land facing towards the entrance with the ramp behind them, making the exposure time much longer than it has to be.

Hellboy (2004)

Character mistake: Tom Manning criticises Hellboy for using a lighter, (correctly) telling him to use a wooden match instead. But he then lights a match and immediately puts it to the cigar, instead of waiting for the sulphur to burn off and using a pure wood-fuelled flame to light it. He's not as well informed as he thinks.

General questions

Do most movie and TV studios have a team of mechanics constantly repairing vehicles? It seems that whenever minor/medium car crashes are filmed the cars are far from written off, but they also must need a lot of work done to make them driveable again, or even just look good enough to be reused on film.

Jon Sandys

Answer: They would have mechanics and/or film crew with mechanical expertise on hand to perform repairs as needed, but they also use multiples of the same makes and models of vehicles used in a movie, particularly cars that are being used in crashes or stunts. This is something that occasionally shows up as a movie mistake where viewers notice a slight variation on what is supposed to be the same car in a scene.

Game Night (2018)

Continuity mistake: When they're trying to bribe the "pregnant corpse" lady, in shots from the front the $10 bill is perfectly flat on the table, but from the back the front half is noticeably kinked upwards. Then when he starts sliding more money over, the $10 is flattened out.

Ready Player One (2018)

Question: In the final battle, as the IOI people are killed by Chucky, their pods turn red, they bail out, run to different red pods, which turn white again, and they're back in the fight. Why can't they just stay in their initial pods and re-enter the fight?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: As I understand it, when players are "killed" in the Oasis, they lose their points and possessions (are zeroed out). The players for IOI corp probably have to go through some re initialization procedure where they get a set of weapons and tools so they can be useful doing things for IOI. (Maybe coins too, but maybe IOI players at lower levels don't need to be buying anything they are not issued by IOI).

chuckie001

Answer: The red pods probably need to be reset for a new player first, which takes longer than going into a new pod.

Die Hard (1988)

Trivia: All the terrorists are wearing the same make of watch, a fact that was cut from the movie. On leaving the truck at the start they synchronised them, and after killing some of the men, McClane noticed the matching watches. This is primarily what gave away "Bill Clay" as being a terrorist - McClane, already suspicious, noticed the brand of watch he was wearing. These references were cut because of a change to the script. The ambulance being used at the end was a late addition, however the synchronisation scene took place in the truck, where there was blatantly no ambulance (as noted in the mistake section). As such they cut that shot as short as possible, banking on audiences not registering the lack of ambulance, but the price was having to lose all reference to the watches.

Pio ke kukui, po'ele ka hale - S9-E10

Continuity mistake: Before the gunfight, Joe tells Steve not to wait too long to find someone. There's a shot of the boards over the window beside him, and they're fully intact. Seconds later, when he says "no visual", well before the gunfire actually starts, they're suddenly riddled with bullet holes.

Continuity mistake: The outside of Hank's lab changes in different shots - sometimes there's a "no entry" sign inside a window on the right, other times it's missing. When Scott and Hope arrive there's a red logo on the door which is missing later. And when the ghost exits there's a "private property" notice beside the door which isn't there at other times.

Jon Sandys

Continuity mistake: As the ghost attacks Wasp in the hotel lobby, there's a guy unconscious in front of the piano who's there in some shots and missing in others.

Continuity mistake: When the shrunken car is surrounded by pigeons, it's an all-glass roof, or black. When the shrunken car drives through a pipe later, its roof is silver. It changes back and forth again, just before/after Hank shrinks it.

Continuity mistake: At the start when Hope is playing in her room, in a wide shot there's a wooden stand with a plant on it by the teddy bear in the background. In a closeup of her this stand has vanished.

Deadpool 2 (2018)

Deadpool 2 mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the final fight, Deadpool says to Cable "did you feel that too?" and there's no-one behind them at all. Cable moves forwards to kill a guy on the ground, and a fraction of a second later, as Deadpool says "only best buddies execute paedophiles together" an orderly has appeared in the background, who gets shot.
