My mother took us to the movies in the fifties to see a movie she thought would be appropriate because of the title. I thought the title was 'The Clown' but I've searched and not found it. It is about a young boy whose brother and brother's friends make him believe he has shot and killed (?) his brother, so he runs away and ends up at a carnival in a big city. The mother and brother then search for him.

Answer: It may be Little Fugitive (1953).

Looking for the title or actor in an 80s movie about the country running out of gasoline. But there is a guy with a red exotic car and he has a hand pump and gets what is left in gas station tanks to continue his journey, and of course the government still has fuel in reserves. Anybody know?

Chosen answer: Sounds like "The Last Chase" with Lee Majors starring and Burgess Meredith co-starring. It's a futuristic movie. Lee Majors plays a former race car driver who decides to rebuild and drive his race car across the country to the "free zone" to escape the bureaucracy of the government.

I'm looking for the name of a cartoon that came out in the late 70s or early 80s, about a fairytale land with unicorns. One of the unicorns dies at the end, while the other unicorn sees him die. Any idea of the title?

Answer: The Last Unicorn, 1982, from the novel by Peter S Beagle.

Does anyone know the title, or the star, of an old movie (probably '30s or '40s) about a bum finding a check for $1,000,000 on a sidewalk? As I remember it, it was a worthless check put there as an experiment by several men who then watched the bum use the check. I remember the bum as being a Gary Cooper type but I could not find a Cooper movie with this plot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer: The story sounds a lot like in the movie "The million pound note" with Gregory Peck from 1954. A bum gets the bill (from the title) by two rich men (as a bet). From that on he gets everything he wants (even without cashing in the bill).Sounds familiar enough ?

This is a movie I saw on Lifetime, where a mentally retarded woman is pregnant. She had red hair, and there was one scene where she said "I could have this baby at any minute." I believe it had the word "Abnormal" somewhere in the title, but I'm not sure.

Answer: This sounds like Profoundly Normal, 2003, starring Kirstie Alley and Delroy Lindo. They are both mentally challenged, her more than him, and face legal obstacles when they decide to get married and have a baby. There was a scene like the one you describe, where Alley is yelling at Lindo (as her social worker looks on) because he wants to go play basketball, but she wants him to come to their prenatal class with her.

I am looking for the name of a film where there is a car that has to race around a town in less than 20 minutes, while some kids try to steal a jukebox. There is also a football game going on and the car starts out as a red '57 Chev., then goes through a car wash and comes out blue with flames. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Answer: Sounds like the 1989 film Catch Me If You Can.

I'm looking for the title of a movie where the grandkids visit their dying grandfather and fix up his boat, in order to give him the viking funeral he desires without their parents knowing, until they set him off in the boat. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Answer: Rocket Gibraltar.

William Bergquist

I am trying to find a movie about a woman who has bone cancer and decides not to have it treated as she wants to spend quality time with her daughter without being sick from chemotherapy. She and her husband and daughter move to the mountains and she makes tapes for the daughter to see when she is older and no longer has a mother. Its a really sad movie and ends with John Denver's song "Sunshine" when she dies. Any clues? I cannot remember the title and would love to find it.

Answer: "Sunshine" is actually the title of the movie(made in 1973), while the title of the song is "Sunshine on my shoulders". You can find the dvd-version of the film here: http://store.jdvds1994.com/sudvd19mowch.html.

I am looking for the name of a movie that I believe was in the late 80's early 90's. It is about a high school boy who is going to a dance with a girl named Tara and all this crazy stuff happens. I remember one scene involved where she is tied to a bed.

Answer: This is what you are looking for: "The Night Before". http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095730.

Don't know title or cast; only that there was a runaway train, not Jon Voight, a chain gang laying track to divert said train, and at the end, one convict, daringly cooly, steps across the tracks in front of the oncoming train, and the train hurtles past behind him.

Answer: This is very possibly "Disaster on the Coastliner" starring Lloyd Bridges, William Shatner, with Robert Fuller and Raymond Burr. A disgruntled ex-employee sabotages the signal control system, putting two passenger trains on a collision course in southern California.

I saw this cartoon some time ago and I cannot remember the name. It was about 2 girls who fell down a well into a magical land. While they were trying to find their way home they encountered various people/creatures who lived there and would ask for help. One girl always helped out while the other did nothing but complain. I remember one girl was named Maria and I seem to remember a necklace being involved somehow. Can anyone remember this? Thanks.

Answer: Once Upon a Time (1976).

What does it mean when the credits in TV shows list someone as a "special" guest star? I have seen some shows do this whether or not that they are only appearing on one episode.

Answer: Often it's a matter of that star's higher status in the industry (like getting Brad Pitt to guest on ER) or getting a non-actor of similar prominence to appear (Barack Obama on The Hills). A guest star is just a temp, and can be an unknown or well-known actor of medium appeal. When it's a 'big deal', it's a "Special".

I'm looking for a Snow White film, possibly made for TV. All I can remember is a montage of the very young Snow White being in the Dwarves' cottage, then growing older. She's still wearing the same dress, but she adds on fabric to make the sleeves and the skirt longer. Someone remarks on the several hem lines and added cuffs. It's not "Snow White: Fairest of Them All" or "Snow White: A Tale of Terror". Please help.

Answer: It sounds like the version of Snow White made in 1987, starring Sarah Patterson and Diana Rigg. It's a musical version, and you can find the trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olHCCSzTcT8.

I am looking for a WWII film made in the 80's or 90's. It was about a bomber crew that was stranded in a desert with their crashed plane. Towards the end of the film it was revealed that they were all really ghosts and one crew member's remains are never discovered, leaving him in the desert alone. Thank you in advance.

Answer: This sounds like the TV movie Sole Survivor (1970) featuring William Shatner.

Madstunts

I am trying to track down an Italian (?) movie that depicts a small group of people going to the cinema in the afternoon to watch a western and when the western reaches a certain point the bad cowboy turns and shoots someone in the audience. The police are called and when the film is re-run it happens again. Can't remember how it ends, but would like to track it down and see it again. Can you help with the title?

Answer: Circuito chiuso - aka Closed Circuit.

I'm trying to remember the name of a movie I watched on Lifetime around the mid 90s. Two high school age girls become extremely upset and/or jealous of their best friend and they end up drowning her in a local river/lake by shoving her head under the water and holding it there with a big rock. I think it shows the moments leading up to the murder, and some of the trial, too.

Danelle Williams

Chosen answer: That was made in 1991, and it was called, "A killer among friends" also starring Tiffini Amber Thessian. This movie was based on true events.

I am trying to think of a movie from the 80's/ early 90's about a boy, and a gem or ring of some sort, an elevator, some kind of underwater place, and there is a talking turtle in it. I believe he is trying to keep a bridge from being built. If anyone knows what I am talking about it would help. Thank you.

Answer: It might be "The Boy Who Loved Trolls" (1984). There is a talking turtle in the movie and also a mermaid whose home is being threatened by the building of a bridge.

I once saw a movie where a girl tells someone "My grandmother/mother named me Pascal because it was Easter." I think it's about a girl and a horse, or has horses in it. Does anyone know the name of it?

Answer: The name of the movie is "Primo Baby" and it's about a young girl and a blind racehorse.

I remember a family movie from 10+ years ago, about a boy who finds some kind of fairy, who becomes his friend. The fairy can get into his sneakers and make them appear to be flying, thereby boosting his popularity. From the start, the fairy makes him understand that if she sees the moon, she will fly away. He leaves her unattended one night, and she gets away. It ends where he thinks she's gone, but then his sneaker 'flies' again. Anyone know which movie this is?

Answer: THE FLYING SNEAKER 1992http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/132225/The-Flying-Sneaker/overview.

I am after the title of a narrated animated/live action film about people living underground in the woods(probably in Germany) during World War 2 to hide from the Nazis. There is a little girl in the film whose family gets taken to a concentration camp and she is left all alone.

Twotall

Chosen answer: It might be "Sarah" a.k.a. "Sarah and the Squirrel", 1982 by Yoram Gross.
