Visible crew/equipment: After Olivia gives Elizabeth her doll with the newly sewn dress John-Boy walks in, and just as he sits down beside Olivia, the set's c-stand with boom arm is visible at the left side of the screen. (00:09:35)
Other mistake: After John-Boy leaves, in the last scene we hear Jim-Bob ask about the magazines, but subtitles claim it is Ben who asks, then as we hear Jason answer the question, the subtitles tell us it's Jim-Bob who answers (on Warner Bros. DVD). (00:47:00)
Visible crew/equipment: After Zeb tells the girls that the old dog, Sam, just wants to find a place to die in peace and dignity, when it cuts to John and Willie working inside the mill a crew member (wearing a red, short sleeve shirt) is hiding, toward the right side of the screen. Then after the shot of the girls on the hill, at the start of the next shot as the truck drives up, a bit of camera equipment is visible at the top, right side of the screen. (00:43:00)
Continuity mistake: When Zeb asks Olivia about dinner he takes a whole carrot, snaps it in half, and begins chomping as he walks toward the meeting in the living room, but when Esther takes the carrot away from Zeb it's quite a whole carrot, with only the tip gone. (00:05:00)
The Conflict - S3-E1
Other mistake: After seeing the new house, Martha Corinne and Esther are at the back of the truck talking while John is driving home. During their conversation the truck is not actually moving (it's shaken to give an impression of movement), as we can see no change in scenery through the small rear window and at the left side of the screen in shots facing Esther. Additionally, Olivia is visible through the rear window sitting in the front seat, and she's wearing dangle earrings, which she does not wear in the scenes before or after (presumably it's the stand-in sitting in the seat). The Townie - S1-E24
Factual error: After John-Boy and Sarah's date at the double-feature, during the ride back home when John-Boy tells Sarah that there's nothing to makeup and he's not mad, through the windshield 1970s vehicles are parked directly ahead of John's pickup truck. (00:08:25)
The Bicycle - S1-E23
Visible crew/equipment: When Curtis stops his car because Ann has been following him on Olivia's bicycle, while the couple are hugging we can see the reflection of two crew members on the vehicle's windshield. (00:48:10)
Visible crew/equipment: After Miss Hunter tells the class that the spell down between the finalists will continue the next day, when it cuts to the long shot of the kids coming home, we can see the crew's production truck at the top, right side of the screen. (00:17:35)
The Home Front: Part 1 - S8-E1
Revealing mistake: At the start, while John and Olivia are in the vehicle driving home, the edge of the rear projection screen is visible at both the left and right sides of the screen. (00:02:45)
Visible crew/equipment: After Colonel Brunson's funeral it cuts to Rose in the living room, and when Elizabeth and Drew walk into the Walton house, the black T-mark is visible on the rug where Elizabeth stands. (00:07:00)
Character mistake: When John-Boy reads the nursery rhyme "Simple Simon" to his nephew, John-Boy points to the colorful illustrations in this book and tells John Curtis, "See, that's Simple Simon, he's a bear." This is incorrect. In the illustrations, Simple Simon is a donkey, and it's the pieman who is a bear (he's wearing a chef's hat and apron). (00:40:50)
Other mistake: When Uncle Cody hears the bad news on the radio about the banks remaining close, Olivia suddenly orders the children to clear the table when their plates are half full. Which wouldn't happen in a Depression with food being a precious commodity.
Continuity mistake: All of the children, even John and Olivia, seem to have reddish/auburn hair. Their natural hair colors are used in later seasons.
Revealing mistake: When John Boy goes out of the kitchen angrily, the view of the back is different than what it actually is. From the kitchen, there appears to be the mountain and trees, but when John Boy is outside leaving the kitchen, we know the barn is what we should see from the back door/window.
Visible crew/equipment: Near the start, when John walks out of the barn he decides to check on John-Boy's car so he sets the bucket down. Just as John walks beside his son's car, the reflection of the camera and camera operator wearing a baseball cap is visible on the windshield, as the dolly tracks backward. Even while John checks it, we can see the camera operator's baseball cap turning a few times in the reflection. (00:03:50)
The Legend - S1-E11
Visible crew/equipment: After Tip arrives in his automobile John introduces him to the family. Then, when Tip explains that he didn't know the ages or genders of John's children and gets the candy, the reflections of a crew member and the moving boom mic are visible on the hood's chrome surface facing the camera, as well as on the windshield. The Sinner - S1-E8
Continuity mistake: After Zeb and Matthew's visit to the Baldwin sisters, when the singing duo arrive at Godsey's store while everyone is watching, the man driving is wearing a different shirt than Zeb and is considerably younger. (00:35:05)
Visible crew/equipment: After Esther scolds Zeb for falling asleep during the earlier sermon Ben tells John-Boy he wants to talk, and at the start of the next shot just as John walks to the truck, we can see the black flag panel (lighting equipment) on its rolling base, at the right side of the screen (in the next wide shot it's gone). (00:28:35)
Character mistake: The NCO in charge of the Navy construction crew is wearing a commissioned officer's eagle insignia on his hat. A non-commissioned officer would have one with a Navy anchor on it. This mistake appears in several episodes showing Ben's Navy service.
Visible crew/equipment: After Muffin spends the night at the Walton house, while she and John-Boy are at the Rockfish bus station, when the bus pulls away the reflections of the camera, crew, and equipment are visible on passenger windows. Also, note, the Newport News bus has license plate number "T-3984" which has been used in previous episodes on other vehicles. (00:19:00)
