Audio problem: When E. Johnson and Sam are hiding behind a pile of tyres, spying on Lester, after Lester's group has pushed the caravan off the cliff, Johnson gets up and says "We're gonna take a little detour," but her mouth is shut. (00:32:00)
Audio problem: When the troops are lined up on the fort's wall near the end preparing for the waves of bugs, Lt. Rasczak is walking at a fast pace behind them and shouts something before aiming his gun. Before he aims his gun, he is seen shouting the same thing as he walks past them, but there's no sound coming out of his mouth. (01:29:25)
Audio problem: The pitch of an airliner's engine doesn't change dramatically when going through rough turbulence. In the scene with the turbulence - after all is quiet, it almost sounds as if the engines are shut down. And it happens way to fast for it to be the pilots doing it. And why would the pilots speed up when entering turbulence?
Audio problem: While at the saucer crash site, some of the characters approach the air foil of the saucer. Dr. Carrington asks Vorhees if he can tell what metal it is. After Barnes is asked to bring some tools, watch Dr. Carrington's lips. He's obviously talking to Captain Hendry, but there is no audio.
Audio problem: In the scene where all the towns residents take refuge in the Prosperity Mall, the mall's janitor/caretaker guy says something to the female sheriff with the camera facing him. In mid sentence the camera angle changes to behind the janitor but at an angle - you can hear him keep on talking but you can see that his jaw is perfectly still meaning that he can't possibly be talking. (01:11:25)
Audio problem: In the shop scene at Ginsberg and Cohen's, when Miles replies, "Something simple," he never opens his mouth to do so.
Audio problem: After Johnny escapes into the city, Ben returns home and starts to shout at Fred for letting him get out. Watch Freds mouth closely as he replies, some of the words he says back to Ben have been removed. Judging by his mouth movements, they appear to be swear words he is saying, and as the film is rated as PG, they were probably removed so they would not cause offence.
Audio problem: In the scene where Kalgan confronts third engineer Steve Godell on the catwalk, he laughs before saying the line: "third engineer Steve Godell?" The laugh begins while Kalgan is obscured by the set, and continues as he moves into the scene. As he steps from around the corner, you can see his mouth is closed and not moving at all, despite the fact that his laugh can still be heard for 3-4 seconds.
Audio problem: When Jenny makes the cab stop, Matt says something, but his lips never move.
Audio problem: When the Statue of Liberty's head strikes the top of a distant building before landing in the street, sight and sound are simultaneous. There should have been an audible lag in the sound due to the speed of sound being only about 1000 feet per second. The absence of this lag would be acceptable in most movies but is inconsistent with the amateur home movie theme of Cloverfield.
Audio problem: Before the trio crashed into the Daily Planet (just before the battle with Supes), they were heard flying outside the building. For 3 superbeings with the ability to fly unaided, they sure sound heckuva lot like jet-propelled aircrafts. Jet aircrafts are noisy because of their engines, but superpeople?
Audio problem: When Spence is killed by the Licker, Matt sees this on the screen and asks, "What the f**k was that?" You can see that his jaw isn't moving. (01:17:25)
Audio problem: When Karl is trying to push himself on Jamie, you can hear her screaming when the shot is outside the car, and the screaming continues when the shot's showing both of them, but she isn't screaming.
Audio problem: When Dr. Grant is explaining the plan to Larraby, when Larraby says "Is that our only option?", his mouth doesn't move.
Audio problem: When Katniss kills Marvel with her bow and arrow when she's with Rue, the cannon (which goes off when a tribute dies) doesn't fire. This happens a couple of other times in the movie too. (01:25:25)
Suggested correction: This isn't a mistake. First the cannons never went off immediately as evidence by the fact that after the initial battle when tributes were killed, they don't go off until Katniss got away. Then 6 went off in a row. The people in charge of the games decide when they go off. Plus, after Rue is killed, the audio cuts from all sounds of the arena for dramatic effect. The cannons could have gone off then. Or they could have gone off during the District 11 riot.
Audio problem: When the man with the peg leg is trying to resist getting a shot of anti-smallpox serum from Professor Waldman, he yells, "You're not sticking that in me. You're not sticking that in me." But if you look closely, you can see that his lips are not moving. (00:32:45)
Audio problem: When Jonas first shows Lily how to dance, then caught and asked what he is doing, Lily responds with "Jonas says it's called dancing." The audio is added in in post production. Lily is smiling at Jonas without moving her lips. (00:37:00)
Audio problem: When Winston says "Bugger." at the start of the film when he has the cigarette in his mouth, his lips are most definitely not in sync with the word. And it even sounds dubbed over.
Audio problem: In the scene at the alumni ball right after Sherman's father says "That's strike three," to his wife, she begins to walk off and he starts saying gibberish things, his head is turned so that you can see his beard. Neither his cheeks nor beard are moving, even though you can hear him making those gibberish noises.
Audio problem: Just after Arnie accepts the cab driver's offer and the other one complains, Arnie's driver gives him the finger and says something like, "Eat this", but his lips don't match what he's saying. (00:52:45)
