Did You See the Sun Rise? - S3-E1
Continuity mistake: At the airbase, Greene is reporting to his superior, who suggests him to let Magnum in on the danger. The actors were positioned differently on the location and/or time elapsed during the scene, because the Admiral's head casts a shadow right on his collar and behind his neck in the close-ups, while his back and collar are fully in the sun in the wider views. Continuity mistake: Nuzo is at TC's arming himself like in 'Nam. There's a beer cooler on the table; he does not touch it but when the other two 'Nam buddies arrive the cooler moved. Also, there's a cassette player by him implying that he is listening to "Satisfaction", which he hums some verses to. However, there is no further showing of the tape player later and the song eventually fades without anyone removing the object. (00:55:50)

Revealing mistake: Going through the database with Lieutenant Maggie Poole, Magnum spots finally Ivan's picture. This involuntary puts a rather hilarious twist to one of the most famous and dramatic endings of a TV episode, since that picture from the military intelligence database is exactly from the 'future', aka the ending of the episode; Ivan is wearing the same black suit and tie (pretty weird already with the setting) that he will wear in the ending, and is even in front of the same tree leaf by leaf. Continuity mistake: When TC looks at the picture the psychologist assigns him as target, the thumb of his right hand is visible in close-up, but the reverse shot shows that he's holding it with the left hand only. (01:21:00)
Did You See the Sun Rise? - S3-E1
Continuity mistake: When Rick reminds Magnum the codes for their last 'Nam mission, he's on Magnum's right and Magnum's microphone is on the left side of his jaw. When Magnum talks to TC convincing him not to fire, Rick is on Magnum's left and their microphones are on the right side. (01:27:00)
Did You See the Sun Rise? - S3-E1
Continuity mistake: When Greene shows Magnum the photograph of Nuzo, in this closeup Nuzo is wearing a black shirt and a black band around his forehead, but when Greene places the photo on the desk it's completely different, with the subject wearing white and no headband.
Continuity mistake: When the Hawaiian approaches the antiquarian at the beginning of the episode, which tells him that indeed had the statue of the Poison God, the handkerchief in his hand is held differently between shots; at the cut the hankie sticks out from the bottom of the fist, did not at the beginning. (00:03:00)
Continuity mistake: When Catherine hands the statue to Higgins, he has his hand below her hand in the first shot, over hers in the next one. (00:06:05)
Continuity mistake: When Higgins calls Magnum's grasp of human nature "preadolescent" there's a cut where Magnum's hands are positioned differently on the top of the paddle shaft. Throughout the whole scene there are other position shifts which are if not impossible (Magnum's hands remain off frame at least for a moment), unlikely and consistent within angle taken separately. (00:08:40)
Continuity mistake: Magnum dumps the paddle on Higgins as he turns to speak with Mrs. Catherine Hailey. Higgins holds it with his hand positioned at different heights between shots. (00:09:55)
Deliberate mistake: When the Simon brothers are parked across the street from the entrance to Robin's Nest, with Harold Sands in the back seat, Rick uses binoculars to have a closer look at the estate. In the POV shot from within the binoculars, the estate's entrance gate with a sign on the bricks is backwards, revealing it as a flipped shot. (00:12:40)
Continuity mistake: In the lengthy scene with the suave Simon brother at the gate, he is always holding the second bar to the left in the wider angles, the third in closer shots. (00:19:25)
Continuity mistake: When Higgins reminisces with A.J. Simon about his run-in in chemin de fer with Ferdinand II, he is holding his flashlight horizontal, pointed at Jameson Parker, but at the cut he is pointing downwards at the map. Jameson Parker is also holding the map differently, with his 3 last fingers joined together at first, spread wider apart in the other shot. (00:20:25)
Character mistake: Higgins boasts about playing chemin de fer with Ferdinand II at the resort, but there has not been any sovereign by that name in the 20th century. (00:20:40)
Continuity mistake: In the diversion at the beach, AJ removes his shirt in the wide shot with TC and Magnum telling him "You're not surfing", but he still has it up to the elbow in the frontal. (00:26:35)
Revealing mistake: The Simon brothers manage to make their escape and Magnum and TC get back to Robin's nest reaching Rick and Higgins. From the open door you can see a single real plant, and a matte painting to act as background. (00:34:15)
Visible crew/equipment: When Rick and AJ return to Harold's hotel suite they join Harold on the balcony, and when Harold keels over onto the floor, the reflections of crew and location set lighting are visible on the glass door. (00:36:45)
Visible crew/equipment: When Magnum returns to the estate he gets out of the Ferrari and runs, then promptly falls when he leaps over the wall, and while Magnum's on the ground the black T-mark is visible on the grass. (00:41:20)
Audio problem: Back to the mansion after meeting Simon & Simon in the hotel room, Magnum narrowly misses the villain. Still clueless about it, runs to Higgins and hops over a wall. The ghastly yell he emits during his athletic effort is entirely off-pitch and at a different volume than his speech. They might as well have used a Wilhelm scream here. (00:41:30)
Continuity mistake: When Magnum jumps over the garden wall, he bumps into rolled up rugs, unfurling one. Which looks the same way at the end of the scene when the same camera angle is used. But the middle part of the scene is shot in a different angle, closer to Tom Selleck's face as he crawls to Higgins and gets up, and in that angle the rugs are piled together in a different way, with the unrolled rug draped over the others.
