Revealing mistake: In the opening shot, while Carol Ann is calmly jogging, moving along right beside her is the filming vehicle's shadow, visible at the bottom of the screen, then Carol Ann exits the park. (00:01:30)
Continuity mistake: In pure movie fashion, a runner is chased by a big Sedan and she keeps on the road instead of swerving to the side and hide behind the many trees and posts. She does change lane at one point, though; when she does that, notice that in the closer view she is passing by a tree that is not next to a lamp post like in the wider angle. (00:02:15)
Continuity mistake: In the POV shot, when the car rams the jogger it sends a trash bin flying across, which is completely absent during the side view of the stuntwoman being tossed in the water. (00:02:20)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the episode, the titular character makes his way towards the club. He glances at the Ferrari parked there, its nose towards the club. A couple minutes later, Magnum drags him out of the club (no valets involved), and the Ferrari now is parked facing the opposite direction and with a total change of natural lights. (00:03:10 - 00:05:20)
Revealing mistake: In the photo Billy Joe shows Magnum, his sister's image appears superimposed on a background - which is also quite unlikely from anyone near Shamrock, TX, and more like a lush Hawaiian scenery. (00:04:30)
Audio problem: Billy Joe Bob's "He got in my way" response to Rick who tells him to leave the club after busting Harland's jaw is noticeably inserted in post, rather poorly dubbed in with a change of levels and discontinuity in background sound. (00:04:50)
Continuity mistake: Outside the King Kamehameha Club, Magnum knocks down Billy Joe Bob with a punch, and knocks away his cowboy hat too. The hat is flat on the ground when he is getting up, but was toppled over under the different camera angle. (00:05:45)
Revealing mistake: During the kendo sparring, on the breastplate of the kendogu you can see the reflection of the set lights, practically all the time. (00:11:00)
Character mistake: When Magnum parks the car in front of the Kahala Towers, the word "parks" has to be used very loosely; the car stops on the left side and at little distance from another car on the right, effectively blocking the whole road. And that is in a moment of total quiet, not rushing out of the car to save a baby or something like that. Whoever parks their car like that deserves to be shot on sight. (00:12:10)
Revealing mistake: The chopper lands and an upset Billy Joe Bob disembarks. A low standard for body doubles is set when you realise that TC has been replaced by some white dude wearing a bandit scarf on his face and sunglasses. (00:15:00)
Continuity mistake: Billy Joe "smooths things out" with the non-hooker and Magnum gets slapped in return. The cocktail umbrella on the counter goes from straight to folded between shots. (00:21:30)
Character mistake: Magnum and Billy Joe Bob face one of Ito's goons. The guy is supposed to be competent with nunchakus, but he simply waves it around with no skill and in the close-up of his warrior yell, he strikes a pose with it but you can see at the bottom of the frame he misses the catch and does not grab the other stick. Obviously the extra was hired simply because of the looks and ethnicity but had never used this goon's supposed weapon of choice before. (00:24:55)
Continuity mistake: The prostitute looks at Magnum trashing the nunchaku guy hiding behind the corner. Her hand is above the leaves of the potted plant, then under it in the last shot. (00:25:25)
Revealing mistake: Magnum is back from his meeting with Ito. When TC from his seat reaches for the heli door, you can spot he's someone else wearing a ski mask. (00:33:45)
Revealing mistake: Billy Joe Bob steals the Ferrari, but the interior shot of the car with him switching gears is stock footage; the person in it has sneakers on like Magnum, not James Whitmore Jr.'s cowboy boots. (00:37:00)
Revealing mistake: After wiring TC's chopper, Billy Joe Bob puts the headset on and looks behind him. When he turns his head to look, you can see that on the right pad there's something handwritten with an ink marker on it; "D. JONES." Makes no sense on TC's chopper, but much more sense when you know that the aerial coordinator and helicopter pilot for this season of the show is named in fact J. David Jones. (00:40:45)
Continuity mistake: When the three henchman are knocked out by Billy on the chopper, they land in distinct positions (the two rightmost ones are facing right), that change when Billy gets out of the helicopter. (00:42:40)
Revealing mistake: When Billy Joe Bob downs the 3 Japanese goons hitting them with the skid of the chopper, only two (at most) are hit and on the chest, the other (again, at most) gets the impact of the other two knocked against him, and all of them land on soft grass. Yet of course they are unconscious and KTFO for good. (00:43:30)
Audio problem: Billy Joe manages to get through the not quite solid defenses of Ito. He shoos the geisha inside Ito's chambers and tels her "Go for a little while", with the actor's lips not moving at all except for "go." (00:43:35)
Other mistake: When Magnum sprints to the ocean at the end of the episode, his bare feet are remarkably clean for someone who has just run through a lawn freshly fertilized, with Higgins just shoveling it in his path. (00:47:40)
