The Simpsons

The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson - S9-E1

Continuity mistake: In Homer's flashback, when the pimp chases Homer, who is covered in garbage, Homer runs away from him on one side of the street. When Homer runs on the other side of the street, he is not covered with garbage. When he climbs a ladder and falls into a manhole, he is covered with garbage again.

Lisa's Sax - S9-E3

Continuity mistake: When Bart is standing on the bench, Jimbo and Milhouse are standing in The Front row, on the right side of the screen. But when there's the closeup (a second later), there are children shown in front of Jimbo and Milhouse and the girl with the purple hair is gone.

Lisa's Sax - S9-E3

Continuity mistake: In the episode 'Lisa's Sax' (season 9, ep. 3), King Toot's music store is across the street from Moe's Tavern. However, in numerous later episodes, there are stills of Moe's Tavern that show King Toot's music store next door, not across the street as in the aforementioned episode.

Lisa's Sax - S9-E3

Plot hole: In this episode, Homer repeatedly says that they have no air-con or thermostat, but we saw that they had a thermostat in the first clip show episode. What happened to it?

Tree House of Horror VIII - S9-E4

Other mistake: In 'Homega man', Homer goes into the bomb shelter and does not shut the door, and you can still see it open for a while after he is in there. Herman does not close it behind him - you can tell by his skeleton's position. But Homer opens the door to leave the shelter after he has eaten the food, and it must have been closed for him to have survived the atomic attack, because it vaporised Herman, who was only a few feet away.

He's My Brother

The Cartridge Family - S9-E5

Other mistake: When Homer is muttering whilst walking up and down the home landing at night after being told he has to wait 5 days to receive his gun/license, Lisa being awoken by his muttering complains that it is 3am but her bedside clock shows 9.50/21.50. (00:06:55)

The Cartridge Family - S9-E5

Continuity mistake: The right handle plate on Homer's gun is fastened with two screws throughout the entire episode. But in the scene where he promises Marge to get rid of the gun and they hug in the kitchen, the gun is seen lying on the table with only one screw in the handle.

Twotall

The Cartridge Family - S9-E5

Continuity mistake: When the Home security seller is first seen, he steals an ashtray and a remote control off a speaker and turntable player both close to each other, When the shot changes the speaker and turntable player are much further away from each other.

Bart Star - S9-E6

Character mistake: When Chief Wiggum shows up to arrest Nelson during the game at the end of the episode, Bart goes with Wiggum instead while pretending to be Nelson. Even a cop as incompetent as Chief Wiggum would not have mistaken Bart for Nelson since he'd had numerous dealings with both before this episode; Wiggum may not be particularly bright, but he knows who's who in Springfield.

Suggested correction: Not really a mistake for this show in particular. Characters like Homer, Bart, Chief Wiggum, Grampa and others are deliberately written to be on a sliding scale of stupidity, pretty much exclusively for the benefit of whatever joke the show is telling.

Homer's brain: It's simple, just use reverse psychology.
Homer: Reverse psychology? That sounds too complicated.
Homer's brain: Alright, don't use reverse psychology.
Homer: Alright, I will!

Answer: Willy referred to an encounter he believed he had with actual aliens, while Wiggum thought he was referring to the arcade game.

Answer: The joke is that Willie was so addicted to Space Invaders that he believed it was reality: every time he played, he was actually defending the Earth from dangerous aliens. It's a surprise to him that it was actually a game.
