Revealing mistake: In the prolonged close-up of the London Chronicle it's easy to spot the same two paragraphs repeated over and over in the main article. Someone at the prop department was particularly lazy - although they did put in some pretty funny gag, because at the very bottom you can see an ad for "500,000 slaves at 1£ each." Pretty sure that was not allowed on British newspapers in 1983. (00:05:45)
Visible crew/equipment: Magnum stops in front of the bar building on the beach of the King Kamehameha club asking his friends about his odds. They laugh him off, of course. In Tom Selleck's close-ups you can spot in the sunglasses TC's reflection far in distance with his yellow polo, but there's a man standing much closer that shouldn't be there. (00:04:10)
Revealing mistake: When the kid skates away from the store after stealing the quarters, his hair changes from curly to a poofy straight bob. (00:04:05)
Character mistake: Higgins remembers having met the sisters "37 years ago this July", and shows a "theatre program from Blackpool the summer I completed my upper second at Sandhurst." Considering the episode is set in 1983, Higgins would have still been in military academy in WW2, which contradicts the plethora of experiences in North Africa and Burma. It's more likely that John Hillerman misspoke and it was meant to be "47 years ago", before the war. (00:37:30)
Other mistake: Magnum rewinds the answering machine tape hitting the opportune button just once, and it plays on its own the exact bit he needs to listen to, without any intervention on his part. (00:36:20)
Revealing mistake: Magnum goes through his collection of Topps baseball cards; the fake one with Johnny Wells has a design that sticks out from the others - it is in a fact a 1969 Bernie Allen one with a little post-it sticker on it with a different name. (00:25:25)
Character mistake: Magnum is holding a stinky pickled egg while he bickers with his friends in Rick's car. TC calls the store chain Magnum has been hired to protect "Day-N-Night" instead of "Day-N-Dark." (00:22:00)
Continuity mistake: Magnum sits on the couch's arm, by one of the sisters who is holding Higgins' book in her lap. On her lap, under the book, there's the handkerchief she used when she was having tea. In the closer angle, there's no hankie, while Madge's is open wider. (00:18:20)
Continuity mistake: Higgins mocks "Tommy", who in close-up rips the page of the notepad where he scribbled down the partial license plate. In a wider angle a few seconds later into the verbal exchanges he rips the page again. (00:18:05)
Continuity mistake: After the garage fiasco, Magnum sits down with the ladies who patronize him. During the scene, the sunglasses retainers run to the inside or the outside of the shirt collar, depending on the camera angle. (00:13:05)
Continuity mistake: Magnum escorted the two old ladies at the Fointanbleu Residence. The one in red, Madge, has her hand on Jeanie's arm when she says they were actresses, but she kept her hands to herself in the previous shot. (00:07:25)
Continuity mistake: Magnum is at the old ladies' residence and is talking with the card collector. In the close-up of the baseball broadcast, the object on top of the TV are gone. (00:08:45)
Continuity mistake: Magnum creates a Rodin-esque stack of beer cans. His store manager lambasts him, and when they are looking at his creation, it looks different already - the can he put on top as finishing touch is missing, immediately noticeable. (00:02:15)
Other mistake: The opening sequence featuring a blonde in an orange bikini showering on the beach is recognizable as reused from a kidnapping scene in one of the early episodes of the series, 4 years before; China Doll. (00:01:50)
Continuity mistake: The kid in the hospital has a very slim bracelet on his left wrist. In close-up when he sets the modem up he has a thick one. (00:24:30)
Revealing mistake: When Magnum gives chase to the guy who took the elevator, you can spot Tom Lupo (Selleck's stunt double) 's face. He's the one doing the hard work of running down the stairs. (00:18:20)
Revealing mistake: At the very conclusion, the plane exploding has two sets of wings, not the Spitfire model that was supposed to be. (00:47:25)
Continuity mistake: During the ending, when Rick tries to be happy for avenging his sister, and when his buddies try to lighten up the mood, Larry Manetti's hands go from juxtaposed to entwined, back and forth several times. (00:44:35)
Continuity mistake: In the finale, Rick says "But those agents said..." his left hand in the shade and with its side flat on the table by the beer stack. Next shot and it's raised and in a different spot, and so on and so forth as the two angles switch. (00:44:20)
Revealing mistake: When the jeep crashes flying in the air and rolling on one side, it is occupied by crash dummies, with blank faces and who flop lifeless out of the vehicle. (00:43:05)
