Continuity mistake: The criminal at first has his shirt wet in the shoulders area and down his collar and buttoned center. In the wine cellar scene, the center is dry, and returns wet when they return in the dining room after shooting Higgins' radio (and Robin's immature wine). (00:16:00)
Character mistake: Higgins is narrating one of his stories, this time implying that he helped Hemingway write "The Old Man and The Sea." Normally Higgins' stories are somewhat plausible because of factual accuracy that leaves room to be taken at face value, but here he says that it happened in "The Florida Keys, '53 or '54, it was." while "the manuscript was only in the outline stage." The novel was published in 1952. (00:10:30)
Continuity mistake: Magnum in his fangirly reaction to the Tigers' ace player is barely able to point him towards the dining room. In the shot from behind he at least brings the umbrella back in its original position, but it's still across his chest and in front of the opposite shoulder in the front view. (00:10:00)
Continuity mistake: Duke Davis hands Magnum his umbrella, hook of the handle facing his left. It faces his right in the close-up of an ecstatic Magnum. (00:09:25)
Other mistake: The accountant first, then some minutes later the prince and princess arrive at the estate. They are bone dry despite the hurricane outside complete with pouring rain noises and strong winds. (00:05:35)
Other mistake: The Prince and Princess of Turbia are, according to Higgins, "Fixtures at Robin Masters' parties." Makes no sense then that they have no idea how Higgins looks like, since it's established that he's been taking care of the estate for over a decade - of course, Masters does not reside in Hawaii himself a lot, but earlier in the episode it is established that he runs those parties at his villa yearly.
Character mistake: Higgins addresses constantly the Prince and Princess of Turbia as "Your Majesty." For an expert of protocol as Higgins, it's quite odd to make such a mistake; "Your Majesty" is used for royalty with a rank higher than Prince (kings, emperors). Paradoxically, Magnum gets it right, calling both "Your Highness." (00:06:30)
Revealing mistake: The fight scene with Magnum and TC has several shots with the real Tom Selleck and Roger E. Mosley, but the wide angles have been shot with the usual leaner stunt doubles. Magnum's double's face can be seen distinctly as he swings for the first punch, and he will appear later in the episode, uncredited. (00:12:25)
Character mistake: As he takes the elevator for the garage, Magnum's hat gets caught in the elevator doors before the camera cuts away. It's all fine on his head when he gets out. (00:42:15)
Factual error: It is stated in the episode twice that Rod 'did time' in Camarillo, but Camarillo does not have a penitentiary, just a jail and (had at the time) a State mental hospital, neither compatible with his 18 months sentence for growing weed. (00:25:00)
Continuity mistake: When Stuart Margolin shows Magnum a photo of his kid, the photo in close-up is entirely different from the one that Magnum was supposedly looking at. (00:06:35)
Continuity mistake: During the chaotic fight at the end of the episode, the guns are all very close together in a close-up view used a few times, but in wider angles they are spread around much more, from the beginning. (00:45:05)
Continuity mistake: Rod's tackle on the baddie happens twice in two separate shots, and his left hand clings to different spots - the arm in the first, the torso in the next. (00:45:00)
Visible crew/equipment: On the roof of the building, Magnum shuts the door of TC's chopper saying "What are you gonna do? Land on him with your helicopter?" Inside the door's reflection, there's the filming crew. (00:40:50)
Continuity mistake: After Magnum's adventure with the change at the coffee pot, he comes back to Rod and the parole officer. When Rod puts his hand on the phone to prevent her from calling the narcs, Ms. Gordon has the receiver in her lap. New shot and it's up and she lowers it only then. (00:29:50)
Continuity mistake: Magnum and Rod are talking about what happened; Rod is having a smoke and denies growing pot again. In close-ups, Tom Selleck's head casts a shadow to his right, but in the wide angles the shadow is on the opposite shoulder. (00:25:40)
Continuity mistake: Rod tells Magnum the story of how he went into jail and his wife divorced him. He says that "it happens" and massages his temples. In the next shot the pose is similar but he is leaning with his forehead against the back of the hand. (00:25:30)
Continuity mistake: After the run-in with Dolphie Crenshaw's men, Magnum and TC are talking with Rick. When he says "Don't worry 'bout it" his arms are crossed the opposite way than in the previous shot. Mistakes of the same nature happens later, such as when Magnum explains why he owes Rod and Rick's hands go from opposite upper arms to joined together. (00:14:35)
Continuity mistake: Magnum tries to have TC accept the cheque, but he is adamant about 'cash and carry'. During this scene, Magnum is holding the box with his hand positioned at a level that switches between two heights as the angle changes. (00:08:40)
Revealing mistake: After the credits, Magnum's friend is checking out of the Honolulu Herald, which is running an article with Magnum's photo but the usual gibberish filler text contained in other similar props. (00:03:00)
