Revealing mistake: In the Birdemic-like scene when Magnum barely escapes with his life from a deadly parrot before Higgins squeals it into suicide, our hero has multiple bleeding from lacerations on his arms that disappear one shot later, leaving room to face laceration who disappear in the following scene. (00:45:15)
Factual error: Higgins frightens the parrot with his peregrine falcon call, and the parrot flies away. The sky is a fairly big place though, and TC's helicopter is far away, so the fact that it'd be sucked in (that's not how helicopters work), maimed and somehow explode in a puff of (clean) feathers that instantly and calmly float down is borderline cartoon slapstick. (00:45:20)
Visible crew/equipment: When Tom Selleck's wife is driving off at the end of the episode, equipment and lights are reflected in the side of the car. (00:47:30)
Audio problem: When Higgins lists the various things he expects to run into when he enters' Magnum mancave, there's a noticeable difference in the ambience of the audio when it cuts to Magnum as he mentions the "soiled garments."
Continuity mistake: Rick and TC are at the wedding buffet. Behind them as they toast in memoriam of Magnum there is a dancing couple. She has a pink hat and her date has a yellow jacket. There's also a black guy in a brown jacket busting some groovy moves of dad dance. Both are also behind Higgins as he arrives, though. The couple also walks back and forth padding the background in the rest of the scene. (00:03:50)
Continuity mistake: When Magnum encounters his secretary and he just won't let go of her hand, in the frontal views of Tom Selleck he has his fingertips curled, while in the reverse shots the fingers are straight and don't rise above the side of her hand. (00:19:00)
Character mistake: Bickering with his pretend wife after risking his neck with the falling crates, Magnums says "we can stop playing house, I can go back to being a private detective, which is exactly what I should have been in the first place." Magnum has a verbal tic during the series and he fiercely corrects everyone when they call him a private eye, or detective, as he goes only by "investigator" (the I in P.I, after all). He's using the wrong word here. (00:22:35)
Visible crew/equipment: While Magnum tries to eat the hotdog, Marsha hounds him about the "rancid, decaying animal flesh with harmful chemicals and additives." When Magnum agrees to let her fix something good, Marsha starts heading up the stairs and the white T-mark is visible on the floor, where she had been standing. (00:32:50)
Visible crew/equipment: After Rick and TC agree to the horrible terms, Higgins is "persuaded" to help them get out of jail. In the next shot at the docks, when Marsha parks in front of the trailer, multiple white tape marks are visible on the ground in front of the trailer door, then before they all leave, those white tape marks are now black tape marks and a T-mark. (00:39:50)
Other mistake: Marsha Mackenzie is supposed to be competent with certain aspects of men care; she comes from a wealthy family and she has been taking care of the men in her family all her life. And Magnum does show up at the Kamehameha club with a nicely done knot on his tie. When we actually see the actress tie that same not metaphorical knot though, it's very clumsy, crooked and differs in between shots (it's also done on an unbuttoned shirt).
Forty Years from Sand Island - S3-E17
Revealing mistake: After the savage beating, the two other prisoners go check out what happened inside the restroom. The take of Kirin Nakamura lying face down begins with the actor stretching his finger before he has to play corpse for a while not moving a muscle. (00:04:25)
Forty Years from Sand Island - S3-E17
Continuity mistake: In the flashback, the one who supports Mr. Nakamura's head does it with the thumb raised above a cone of shadow and clear of his chin in close-up, not matching the previous and following shot. (00:04:30)
Forty Years from Sand Island - S3-E17
Revealing mistake: Magnum usurped Higgins' desk while he's at the hospital. He is checking out of the article about Enoka running for Senate. If you look at the first article on the left, it begins with "The facts regarding the situation remain the same, state the authorities", the famous filler text that appears in dozens of props made by Earl Hayes Press. (00:16:35)
Forty Years from Sand Island - S3-E17
Continuity mistake: Magnum approaches the Nakamura house getting out of the car with light beige shoes. The young and pretty granddaughter of the deceased walks him around the corner, to her father. In the scene with Russell Nakamura, Nancy's Father, Magnum suddenly has dark brown moccasins, which you can see when he walks towards him and then away. And then when Nancy walks him back to his car, the beige shoes are back. (00:20:10)
Forty Years from Sand Island - S3-E17
Revealing mistake: When Magnum rolls slowly in pain after being hit by the first box, and then when he rolls quickly to 'avoid' the others, his lab coat appears to have protective padding; there's a rectangular shape sticking out. (00:21:25)
