Sully (2016)

Other mistake: The simulator pilots are operating the throttles. After the bird strikes, both engines were inoperable, so the throttles wouldn't do anything.

Columbo (1971)

A Deadly State of Mind - S4-E6

Plot hole: Collier damages a post with his car as he leaves the driveway. His car would certainly have been damaged. The storyline is not long enough for Collier to have his car repaired. Columbo knows about the damaged post, but he never looks into how the damage occurred and never looks at Collier's car, which would have been incriminating.

Columbo (1971)

Playback - S4-E5

Character mistake: Columbo lies on Mrs. Van Wick's bed to demonstrate that she wouldn't be able to see the toy clown if the door was closed. He has his shoes on and puts them on the bedspread and never apologises for doing so. I don't think Columbo would be so inconsiderate.

Airport (1970)

Plot hole: Petroni has the engines at full power to move the plane out of the rut. Once the plane is free, he never pulls the power back. With that power, the plane would accelerate down the runway until it took off or hit something.

Trivia: In the (imagined or real) race scenes, the Lamborghini is a Countach (12-cylinder, the top model at the time) and the Ferrari is a Mondial (8-cylinder, a lesser model). Hardly a fair fight.

A Walton Wedding (1995)

Plot hole: Why didn't John declare his conflict of interest to the Board of County Supervisors as soon as Ben told him about the lumber contract he had signed?

The Fabelmans (2022)

Other mistake: Sammy makes his film "Escape to Nowhere" with a Bolex 16mm camera. (I recognise it because I own one.) When he shows the film, we can see that it is on 8mm film.

Columbo (1971)

Troubled Waters - S4-E4

Other mistake: In the cabin, Mrs. Danziger says he can pick up a pair of golf gloves in Acapulco. Golf gloves are normally sold as singles, not pairs. Very few people wear two golf gloves except in quite cold weather.

Columbo (1971)

Troubled Waters - S4-E4

Plot hole: After Danziger fires the revolver into the mattress, Columbo compares that slug with the murder slug. He puts them both on a narrow railing. It is noticeably windy, and ships often roll with waves. Columbo would not risk losing both pieces of evidence.

Troubled Waters - S4-E4

Factual error: The nurse brings Danziger a sedative and takes his blood pressure. She has her stethoscope in her ears backwards. A qualified nurse would not make that mistake. When she comes in after the murder to do it again, she has the stethoscope in correctly.

Columbo (1971)

By Dawn's Early Light - S4-E3

Audio problem: The clock striking wakes Columbo, and he gets out of bed. We see that he is barefoot. He takes a few steps in the barrack room, and we hear the sound he would make if he were wearing shoes. Then the sound gets louder and has an echo when we see him outdoors on the parade ground (in shoes).

Elsbeth (2024)

Episode #2.1 - S2-E1

Trivia: In Season 2, Episode 1 (Finance Bros), Elsbeth solves the case based on a sound that is not there in a recorded call. If the call had been from the office, Ada, the computer would have responded to the name Ava. This is another case that is similar to a Columbo episode. In Columbo, Most Crucial Game, Columbo solves the case by noticing that the sound of a clock striking is not there in a recorded phone call, proving that the call was not made from the office, as the murderer claims.

Plot hole: The poison is in the dog collar. Anson gets the poison from touching the collar. Why didn't the dog get any poison from the collar?

Suggested correction: The poison cannot penetrate the skin as dogs don't have sweat glands on their bodies (except on the paws).

Character mistake: Elliot is sitting on the porch with his mother. He says dizziness could be a sign of a heart attack, or a cardiac spasm that could lead to a myocardial infarction. Elliot is an exceptionally well-informed kid who would know that a myocardial infarction is a heart attack.

Columbo (1971)

An Exercise in Fatality - S4-E1

Plot hole: When Columbo finds Stafford's street shoes in his locker, they are tied. How did Janus get his shoes off without untying them? If Janus did untie them, why did he retie them before putting them in the locker? And why didn't Columbo wonder why someone would take off his shoes and tie them before putting them away?

Suggested correction: I'm not sure how this is a mistake. I always take my shoes off without untying them.

Bishop73

I can't take off my lace shoes without untying them. How do you do it?

Leicaman

Guessing by them not being tied too tightly. Depends entirely on how much give is in the shoes or the laces - it's certainly not unreasonable.
