Other mistake: A spectator has a vuvuzela in his hand. This is a horn that emits a very loud monotone. It is common at soccer matches where he is. But what is he doing with it? He is looking through it as if it were a telescope.(00:32:05)
Factual error: Thieves make off with 10 million dollars transferred to an offshore bank. The money is shown supposedly in a medium-sized black satchel carried in one hand by one of the accomplices. The largest US bill in circulation is the $100 bill. And one million dollars in $100 bills weigh 22 pounds. So ten million would weigh 220 pounds. There is no way that amount would fit in such a satchel, and much less be carried around dangling by one hand.
Character mistake: Desi states that the stall speed of an F-16 is 250 knots. Not true. The F-16 stall speed in level flight is around 120 knots.(00:02:40)
Factual error: A US Pilot's License is shown. It is pretty much all wrong. Salient among the errors is that US Pilot's Licenses do not have a picture. The nationality should be USA not America. They are green fading to white, and not blue. It does not have a hologram of the FAA seal. The signature on the front is that of the pilot and not the FAA Administrator. I realise that it would be improper to show an actual license on a TV show, but this is so far off as to be ludicrous.(00:02:20)
Other mistake: Dr. Hynek and some Men in Black are aboard a boat. There is loud music playing. When Dr. Hynek tries to turn the radios off, power is cut off aboard the boat, leaving it in darkness. When they want to use the electric winch to raise something, the winch works. If there is no power, what allows the electric winch to operate?(00:26:15)
Factual error: An assistant to the Captain is wearing an Air Force uniform (as she should be). But it has no stripes on the sleeves. This would denote an Airman Basic. But no Airman Basic is going to be in an administrative position.(00:14:10)
Factual error: Dr. Hynek's wife dials a phone number to contact a club member. She dials four digits. Four digit telephone numbers were in use in the 1910s, and five digit numbers in the 1920s. By the 1950s, when this show takes place, there were even area codes and seven digit numbers already in use.(00:16:40)
Other mistake: Mr. Shoemaker tells Dr. Hynek and the Captain that the aliens he saw had three-fingered hands. A short while later he is caught giving a description of the aliens to a reporter. The picture drawn - based on Mr. Shoemaker's description - shows five-fingered hands. Plus later Dr. Hynek discovers a bio-luminescent hand print on a tree. It shows four fingers.(00:10:55)
Suggested correction:This is proved as a hoax so what the man said about the alien having three fingers could just have him mis-remembering the hoax details.
Factual error: A Marine Corps general is visiting Project Phoenix. His ribbons are mostly not USMC authorized and those that are are pretty much out of order. Second, his four star insignias on the collar are way too high. They should be midway on the collar.(00:03:55)
Character mistake: A shipping invoice is shown on screen. It shows 5000 kilograms of kerosene delivered. Riley says the shipment was for 5 kilometers.(00:25:40)
Trivia: If you look closely, that Bourbon that Captain Quinn is drinking is called "Ruppelt Bourbon", a nod to the real-life Captain Ed Ruppelt, the first Director of Project Blue Book, and who the character of Captain Quinn is partially based. Thanks to David O'Leary for the information.(00:18:20)
Factual error: General Harding is asked what will happen to a civilian caught trying to fight the Air Force air police personnel. He responds that he will go to a military tribunal. That is not correct. First of all, the defendant is a civilian and not subject to military authority. This has been so since 1866 when the Supreme Court ruled such a venue unconstitutional. Of note, the incident took place outside of Federal jurisdiction. So, no, he would would have to be turned over to civilian authorities and tried under civilian jurisdiction.(00:37:45)
Factual error: General Harding continues to walk around out of uniform, with just his hat showing any kind of Air Force affiliation. General officers have three pairs of clouds and lightning bolts (colloquially known as "farts and darts") on either side of the bill. The show shows him using one with only two pairs per side. What he is wearing is appropriate only for Lieutenant Colonels and Colonels. He is using a nondescript khaki shirt with absolutely NO rank on it. No distinctive insignia or decorations at all. While this shirt is authorized when worn with the service coat, it is not authorized for use alone.
Factual error: When Grace is fighting the controls of the C-5 cargo aircraft there is a shot of part of the instrument panel. Among the items on the panel is a switch labeled "tail rotor quadrant." The C-5 does not have a tail rotor. Helicopters do.(01:35:00)
Other mistake: Judy is singing on stage with some showgirls. She is singing into a wired microphone. At the end of the song she twirls around twice, but the microphone does not appear to get wrapped around her.(00:49:35)
Visible crew/equipment: Magnum and TC are hurrying to catch an elevator in the parking garage. As they approach the elevator, you can see a cameraman against the wall on the right side that should not be there. The next shot shows the scene from that cameraman's perspective.(00:39:30)
Plot hole: TC is being held at gunpoint and is told to get in a car in the parking garage and drive. Magnum cannot get a hold of TC on the phone and says that something is wrong. When TC drives off with a gun at his head we see Magnum in the Ferrari, in the parking garage and in pursuit of the car TC is driving. How did Magnum know that TC was being held at gunpoint and that he was in a car in the garage?(00:38:25)
Plot hole: In an effort to keep Glenn's death as quiet as possible, Higgins hires a private pathologist to do an autopsy to see if there were any foreign substances or poisons in his system when he died. A few scenes later it is revealed that Glen was undergoing chemotherapy. How is it possible that the pathologist missed the cancer and the chemo treatment in his investigation? What he found was an excess of antacids.
Revealing mistake: Mr. Castro is feeding Ellie the Goat an apple. If a goat were to be biting an apple, the cuts would be irregular. But a few moments later the apple is shown and it has two cuts and they are straight - both made with a knife.(00:25:30)
Continuity mistake: Magnum and TC are in a stairway. TC points a security camera up so it does not cover a landing. Magnum and TC exchange a conversation, and the next time the camera is shown, it is pointing at the landing again.(00:12:55)
