Deliberate mistake: Ignoring that its very unlikely all of Jill St. John's copious red hair would fit under a wig that passes for Robin's hair, it's impossible that it would emerge from under that wig looking as full and perfectly styled as it does when she's in the Batcave.
Deliberate mistake: While a nice approximation, the helicopter used as 'Marine One' is significantly different (and much smaller) than the real ones used by the real White House (http://www.minihelicopter.net/Marine1/MarineOne.jpg).(00:38:10)
Deliberate mistake: This show is famous / infamous for having many long conversations between characters that are walking the corridors of the West Wing of the White House. In this episode, the chat was long enough that more space was needed to complete the walk, so the actors were instantaneously teleported to a different spot to lengthen the walk. Using http://www.whitehousemuseum.org/special/wwtv.htm as a guide, Pres. Bartlet and Leo leave the Oval Office, pass through the Presidential Secretary's office, turn left, passing between the Roosevelt Room and the Chief of Staff's office. At the end of the Roosevelt room, they turn left through dark wooden doors that are open. Instantly, the actors are at the next junction higher on the map (no wood doors), as if they'd just passed between the Roosevelt room and the Communications Bullpen, and they continue (downward on the map) through the intersection where they original turned (watch for the doors after Leo says "You wouldn't understand").(00:02:40)
Deliberate mistake: When Apollo lands the Cylon fighter aboard Galactica, the view forward from behind he and Starbuck is a reuse of the same shot from the prior episode when they landed a shuttle aboard Celestra. Note the headphones they wear, then don't wear in the very next shot.(00:44:20)
Deliberate mistake: When the Vipers make visual contact with the attacking Cylons, an exterior shot shows a large group of Cylon fighters from the front/right as they drop into view and move left to right. The rearmost ship on the left is a gold color while the rest are the usual gray. This odd effect is also seen in the first episode's first battle as well as during the last episode's last battle- an odd coincidence. The original concept for the show was to have these gold ships be the squandron leader, but showing it every week would be too expensive, so that idea was dumped and the one shot with it got used a few times without explanation.(00:05:40)
Deliberate mistake: When Starbuck and Apollo attack the 'flank missile launchers' of the two Cylon base stars, the shots of the launchers exploding are actually of the laser cannons on the Galactica (note the red horizontal striping on the "wall" behind each cannon).(00:44:30)
Deliberate mistake: In a wide shot Cassiopeia announces it is time for the children to go to bed, and they react with normal hoots of false shock and whining. Then the shot changes to a close-up and the same moment repeats, with the children again seemingly surprised and dismayed by the announcement.(01:02:00)
Deliberate mistake: When the Cylon ship rams the landing bay and explodes, the many quick-cut fiery destruction shots are lifted from a classic World War II film (possibly "The Guns of Navarone"). Note the stone walls (and the tanker truck just left of center in the second such shot).(00:08:05)
Deliberate mistake: When the large formation of Cylons attack, the graphic that Athena is looking at shows the approaching Cylon ships as triangles, as usual. But it also shows two asterisks leading that formation, and the asterisk is the symbol for Vipers. There are NO Vipers leading the Cylons in this sequence. This graphic is a reuse of the one from the big battle at the start of the episode when Apollo and Zac were being pursued by an earlier large formation of Cylons.(02:00:30)
Deliberate mistake: As the sub rises backwards to the surface, the stern emerges from the water at a steep angle, then rises near-vertically so that the boat is virtually standing on the tip of its bow. Anything left loose on a countertop would surely fall off. But when the boat falls onto its belly, a close-up shows a pistol sliding off a sink counter into the hand of the Captain- because it's dramatic and cool looking, yet extremely improbable- especially considering that an open tin of shaving foam, its lid and a foam brush all lay on the same counter, undisturbed.(01:27:30)
Deliberate mistake: The dive suits that the crew wears to go out and make repairs are ficticious, patterned after a similar design used by the British during World War 2. Correct US suits were far bulkier and extremely heavy at over 250 pounds each.(00:44:00)
Deliberate mistake: While the sub hides on the ocean bottom, a German ship attacks by dragging chains that have large, heavy barbs on the ends that tear apart whatever they hit. However, this was not used by the Germans in WW2; it was a Japanese tactic.(00:39:40)
Deliberate mistake: When the truck is slamming numerous parked cars on a residential street, it sideswipes a parked Dodge Aspen (white with tan landau top). At the lower-right corner of this shot, a white Chevy Nova is parked at the corner (its vinyl top and trim has been poorly painted the same white as the body). Both these cars are repositioned to be at the roadblock location at the end of the chase, with the Nova slammed from behind by the truck and the Aspen parked near the cop cars.(00:07:00 - 00:07:40)
