Revealing mistake: When the bars on Harry's window are being ripped off, most of the window frame comes off as well. In the close-up. the attached hook pulls the bottom of bars and window outward, causing them to fall a certain way. Yet in the next shot looking up, the way in which the bars and window fall is strikingly different, not to mention unrealistic if it was really being yanked out via the hook at the bottom. Continuity mistake: When the bars on Harry's window are seen falling in the shot looking up, the windowsill is up on the left side and is visibly very crooked. Yet when the Weasley car backs up to Harry's window, the windowsill is perfectly fine again. (00:09:20)

Continuity mistake: After Harry packs his trunk, in the wide shot, as Ron starts to lean over to attach the hook to the bars, the excess rope is in the corner of Ron's window, but in the next close-up it's right in the center. (00:09:10)

Continuity mistake: When Dobby comes out of Harry's closet, he has a CG sock on his ear which he throws towards the dresser. The CG sock is not on the floor in the following two shots, although it should be, when the dresser and floor area around it is shown as Dobby says, "Harry Potter musn't be angry with Dobby," as well as when Dobby yells, "No!" and runs out. Continuity mistake: When Dobby stands on Harry's desk, in the close-up he slams the lamp base into his head with the electrical cord coming out of the base to his right. Yet in the next close-up the cord comes out of the base directly in front of Dobby and is now wrapped around Dobby's neck. (00:05:25)

Continuity mistake: The pillow and blankets on Harry's bed not only change position in consecutive shots, the actual pillow changes drastically from the time Dobby jumps up and down on the bed, until Harry confronts him about the letters. (00:03:05 - 00:04:30)

Continuity mistake: The Dursley house is shown in the opening shot, as Harry sits by his window. When Uncle Vernon places bars on Harry's bedroom window, the shrubbery directly below the ground window is completely different. (00:00:50 - 00:07:55)

Continuity mistake: When Harry first encounters Dobby, as he walks toward the corner of the bed to bow to Harry, a single sock and other clothes are lying on the bed. In the next shot facing Harry, the sock and clothes on the bed have noticeably changed positions and the two long ends of the Gryffindor scarf that hang over the trunk is visible. When Dobby sobs, as he walks off the bed, only one short end of the Gryffindor scarf hangs over the trunk, and it also changes position in following shots. (00:03:10)

Continuity mistake: When Harry enters the kitchen, the cake/pudding Petunia is fussing over is lopsided and shorter than the one shown in the close-up, when Dudley tries to pick at it. There are subtle differences in the look of the cake/pudding in subsequent shots of it too. (00:01:30)

Visible crew/equipment: After driving all day, the Ricardos and Mertzes stop by a run-down diner then end up spending the night in their shared cabin. While they're all in their beds, the vibration of the nearby train causes the Ricardos' bed to shakily slide towards the Mertzes and then back again. The wires attached to the Ricardo's bed are visible, coming from the hole at the bottom of the left wall, and the leg at the foot of the bed is set in a track attached to the floor, which keeps the bed on course.

Continuity mistake: The top of the writing desk has different items on it, including a ceramic pot with pens. When Natalie comes home she takes the pens out of the pot and slips them in her handbag. The existence and/or position of the things on the top of the desk change within the previous and following shots of it, including when Leonard searches for a pen. (01:13:25)

Deliberate mistake: When Leonard takes the photo of his newly acquired Jaguar, the car's hood is parked right up in front of the shrubbery and its shadow is in front, at the hood, seen when Teddy arrived. The actual photo of Leonard's 'new' Jaguar shows it to be nowhere near any shrubs and its large shadow is cast on its right side. (00:03:25 - 01:40:55)

Continuity mistake: While Leonard sits on Natalie's couch rifling through his papers, in the shot facing Leonard, behind him, the two top drawers of the writing desk are open. In the next shot as Natalie comes home only the top drawer is open. (01:13:20)

Continuity mistake: When Natalie comes home she slams her handbag down on the shelf. As she and Lenny talk and she begins to antagonize him, the handbag changes position within these shots. (01:13:25)

Continuity mistake: When Jimmy is killed, his body lies on a certain area of floor tile with missing tile, yet after Leonard takes the photo, there is a close-up of Jimmy's body and it lies on a different area of the tile, further up, closer to the wall. (01:39:15)

Continuity mistake: While Leonard sits on Natalie's couch looking through his papers, in the shot facing Leonard, behind him, the top two drawers of the writing desk are open. In the next shot as Natalie comes home only the top drawer is open. (01:13:20)

Other mistake: In the Sammy/Lenny shot in the Institution, before the switch the orderly on the left heads toward the medical files with his arm outstretched and the nurse walks behind Sammy. Just as the person passes the camera the film jerks and the two men at the table, visible on the left, have a shaking motion. After the switch, the orderly and the nurse are both further back. Continuity mistake: Leonard removes his large 'photo' paper from the wall and places it on the bed to fold. Things are positioned differently in the close-up and wide shots. (01:34:20)

Visible crew/equipment: Teddy, Leonard and Jimmy leave Jimmy's motel room and Leonard tells Teddy, "Take your own car." In the next shot as Teddy reaches for his door, a crew member, plus another one under his arm/elbow, are very clearly visible in the door mirror. Then as Teddy closes the door a crew member's face is seen on the left, in that mirror. (00:44:00)

Deliberate mistake: When Natalie writes the 'Dodd' note at her home, it just reads, "Dodd, MonteRest Inn on 5th St., room 6, put him onto Teddy..." However when Leonard reads the note in the car and at the motel, the note now reads, "Dodd, white guy, 6'2", blonde, MonteRest Inn on 5th St..." (00:50:00 - 01:12:15)
