The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Continuity mistake: The car chase from the gas station to the banana plantation happens with the mobsters driving two cars passing as one. The first car is a Ford Sedan with single headlights and front and back license plate 3F-2890, but the car speeding up in most of the shots driving through the long roads is a similar model with double headlights, different grill and without a front license plate (7F-7594 is the back one, but you may need to freeze-frame for this last detail). Visible crew/equipment: After Magnum knocks out of the fake 5-0s at the gas station, he and his passengers escape in the Jimmy. When DiGorgio is at the steering wheel he picks up Steve and Michael, then in the exterior shots from the hood of the car, there's black material covering the passenger window at the left, and also on the windshield/car surface we see the reflection of a screen (where the camera is located). (00:21:35)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Revealing mistake: Magnum punches the baddies who tried to dogjack them at the gas station. Old Mr. DiGorgio drives the car and picks them up. Not so old, actually, because Michael V. Gazzo is substituted at the wheel by a younger and leaner stuntman with a fake stache. (00:21:35)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Audio problem: During the car chase, the evil boss says a line "Well, there ain't gonna be no witnesses now, so be a good boy and pull that piece and get ready to use it." recorded at higher volume and 'flat' as opposed to variation of the street noises, making obvious that it was dubbed in later. The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Continuity mistake: In the close-up of Sir Algernon Farnsworth barking immediately after the jeep's tank is punctured by the bullet, he's on a car seat with a plaid pattern, but the interior of the car, back seats included, was shown during the gas station scene as beige/sheepskin. (00:23:00)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Factual error: Wheels stuck in the jungle terrain, the mobsters get out of the car. It's a jungle in Hawaii, but, lo and behold, the first sound they hear is the call of a kookaburra, which is native of Australia and New Guinea (but also one of Hollywood's favourite stock sounds). (00:25:05)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Continuity mistake: Magnum and Sharon pass over the fence of the impounded pier (and Sir Algernon Farnsworth passes through it). There's no significant natural light in the scene, but when they reach the building at the end of the pier in the next shot, the whole pier they ran on is suddenly fully sunlit. (00:30:25)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Visible crew/equipment: After Sharon admits to Magnum that she's afraid of dogs, when it cuts to Michael tending to his leg Steve walks over to him, and the hidden black wire/mic are visible under Steve's blazer. (00:32:05)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Continuity mistake: The gangster shoots twice through the door; the action is shown twice, but Magnum and the screaming girl react differently both times. (00:37:45)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Continuity mistake: When the mobster shoots TC's helicopter, he snipes at great range with a revolver and manages to make a hole in one of the chopper's windows, or so at least it looks in close-up, since there's no bullet hole in the other views. (00:39:25)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Continuity mistake: The position of TC's chopper on the helipad changes depending on the angle - in the wide angle with the camera pointing at the building, the skids are partially off the pad, they are within the boundaries in the other angle - and Magnum, the dog inspector and the dog hop on the chopper from a much larger platform in asphalt. (00:39:30)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Audio problem: In Higgins' study at the Nest, TC says "Sure is. And I got 450 bucks' worth of bullet holes in my bird to prove it." The two sentences overlap for a moment in an audio editing flub. (00:40:15)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Continuity mistake: When Rick exits Robin's Nest in the pool service van, there's a closeup of Michael and Steve waiting in their car. Michael is in the driver's seat and he's wearing a dark plaid shirt, but when Rick's van gets cut off the driver of the car is wearing a solid white shirt. (00:41:15)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Visible crew/equipment: While Rick is driving the pool service van Michael cuts in front to stop him, and just as Steve runs up to the passenger side of the van, we can see the reflection of the cameraman's arm wearing a watch in the driver's side triangular window. (00:41:50)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Continuity mistake: Rick is driving the van as planned by Magnum, and gets cut off by those very driven mafiosi. The view in the passenger's window does not even remotely match in the different shots. (00:41:50)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Character mistake: Steve gets on Rick's truck and tells him "Just follow that car." However, when we see what happens through TC's chopper, the van is in the lead, and the car is the one following - probably it was footage shot with the intention to reveal Magnum's plan earlier. (00:42:00 - 00:42:40)
The Ugliest Dog in Hawaii - S1-E8
Other mistake: At the end of the episode, Zeus and Apollo are in a cage, and it is explained that it's because of sir Algernon's presence, due to Magnum's decision. It makes for a humorous finale, but does not make any sense; it's sir Algernon that has to be isolated for the 4 months quarantine, and an earlier segment implied that a fence had been built for him, as he needed to be limited in movements to avoid contact with the ocean and everyone on the estate.
Audio problem: In the highlight reel that comes before the opening, Mac's computer does a scrambled electronic sound different than the cleaner bleeping sound used in the actual episode. (00:00:05 - 00:11:50)
Audio problem: When Tobin receives the call from across the street, the agent in the long shot is talking without moving his lips. (00:02:25)
Continuity mistake: In the initial phase of the conversation over the phone (and the road) with Agent John W. Newton, Eric Tobin's hand shifts slightly on the microphone between shots (the position of his index is different), and in a much more evident flub, when he says twice "Delta One" at the very end he has no left hand at all on the phone receiver in the first shot, and does in the second.
