Magnum, P.I.

Letter to a Duchess - S4-E6

Revealing mistake: In the prolonged close-up of the London Chronicle it's easy to spot the same two paragraphs repeated over and over in the main article. Someone at the prop department was particularly lazy - although they did put in some pretty funny gag, because at the very bottom you can see an ad for "500,000 slaves at 1£ each." Pretty sure that was not allowed on British newspapers in 1983. (00:05:45)

Limited Engagement - S4-E5

Revealing mistake: Magnum goes through his collection of Topps baseball cards; the fake one with Johnny Wells has a design that sticks out from the others - it is in a fact a 1969 Bernie Allen one with a little post-it sticker on it with a different name. (00:25:25)

No More Mr. Nice Guy - S4-E13

Revealing mistake: When Carol and Magnum jump from the terrace, you can see her land way too close to the edge of the garbage truck container; the stuntwoman's foot hits it in fact, and one of her shoes ricochets in the air. The stuntwoman picked up an injury, obviously, but Carol is unscathed and complains just about the suit getting dirty - when at the very least she lost one shoe. (00:25:30)

A Sense of Debt - S4-E8

Revealing mistake: All the 'boxing' in the episode is unrealistic pure 80s Hollywood hot camp garbage, but the finishing blow of the final match in particular is miles off, bad even for the low standards of that sort of 'action'. (00:44:10)

A Sense of Debt - S4-E8

Revealing mistake: The shot of the Ferrari during the directorial credits (filmed from a car in front) does not feature Roger E. Mosley behind the wheel; you can see a bit of longer hair sticking from the top. (00:04:30)

A Sense of Debt - S4-E8

Revealing mistake: TC's accident with the hog pen is shot in (at least) two takes, one with the stuntman dodging the car inside an otherwise empty pen, and the establishing shot with the animals when the car is still not so close - and then when the car has stopped at the end and there's no danger for the pigs. Squeeze Play - S4-E7

Revealing mistake: Higgins speaks with the idiotic nephew of the most hated (temporary) new boss, who tells him uncle is in the Den. Higgins opens the door and before it cuts to the new scene, you can peek through the door and see that the lights are switched off; Higgins is walking into an empty room (would be fun if it were the broom closet, but it's actually the correct photoset, just with nobody there). Squeeze Play - S4-E7

Revealing mistake: The construction workers in the bar believe Magnum's bluff about being an inspector, and make a run for it trampling him. Tom Selleck's stuntman is the one taking the risk of having a mob of big guys stomp him - and you can actually spot a fake moustache dangling loose during the action. (00:18:30)

Squeeze Play - S4-E7

Revealing mistake: When Lola hits back Rick's pitch and gets him in the 'nads, it's transparent in the shot of her swing that the ball was not flying back at the pitcher in a million years. (00:10:55)

Of Sound Mind - S3-E12

Higgins: How fiendishly deceptive of you, Magnum. I could have sworn I was hearing the emasculation of a large rodent. To my great surprise, I see the sounds are emanating from what I thought was a harmless musical instrument.
Magnum: Cute Higgins, real cute.
Higgins: Why Magnum? Why do this terrible thing?
Magnum: Higgins, I'll have you know I used to be very good. I was the second best sax player in my High School band!
Higgins: Well, how many sax players were there?!
Magnum: ...Anyway. I just saw this in a pawn shop window and thought I'd like to try and get my chops back.
Higgins: May I suggest that your "chops" are irretrievable.
Magnum: Higgins, did you come here just to abuse me!?

A.A.P.I. - S7-E5

Trivia: At the awards ceremony, three men seated at a table together resemble three detectives from 1970s TV shows. Detective Mike Stone (played by Karl Malden) from ABC's Streets of San Francisco; Detective Frank Columbo (played by Peter Falk) from NBC's Columbo; and Detective Theo Kojak (played by Telly Savalas) from CBS's Kojak.
