Mr. Monk Meets His Dad - S5-E9

Deliberate mistake: In the opening scene, Wood's tie is grabbed by an exposed fan belt located above the side of the engine. However, this belt/pulley assembly doesn't exist in a real truck's engine compartment - the fan belts are all in front of the engine, where the camera can't see them easily. The prop master must have added this dangerous device to the truck to allow the camera to see the strangulation.

Other mistake: When Jack Monk is filling up his truck, the numbers on the pump don't add up right and keep changing. The cost is $3.599/gallon, but in one shot you see the sale price reads $93.78 for 28.348 gallons. The sale price should be $102.02. But in a later shot, he's only pumped 27.126 gallons. Then when he hits $100 sale price, it's for 31.259 gallons ($3.199/gallon) but in the next shot it reads 27.719 gallons.

Mr. Monk Meets His Dad - S5-E9

Factual error: The runaway truck ramp has no advance signage (e.g. Runaway Truck Ramp Ahead 1/2 Mile) as real runaway truck ramps do. It has no loose sand to slow down the truck's wheels. And it doesn't point uphill as a real ramp would.

Mr. Monk and the Leper - S5-E10

Continuity mistake: While Dr. Polanski talks to Monk and Natalie in his waiting room, he's gesturing with both hands held out in front of him. When the shot changes angles, he's abruptly standing with his hands clasped behind his back. Next cut, he's gesturing again. (00:05:00)

Mr. Monk and the Leper - S5-E10

Continuity mistake: Monk uses paper towels to grab the phone, dragging a length of white paper across the kitchen counter and leaving it there. But when he turns around to talk to Natalie, the counter behind him is bare. The paper towel trail has vanished. (00:05:40)

Mr. Monk and the Leper - S5-E10

Continuity mistake: Randy is desperately trying to pry his teenage acne photo off the doctor's wall. He knocks the photo underneath it crooked, but it rights itself in the next shot. Then he pulls his picture free, making a large hole in the wall, but knocks all the surrounding photos off onto the floor. There's no time lapse, but when he turns around, the fallen photos have all put themselves neatly back up on the wall, and the hole is gone. (00:32:30)

Mr. Monk and the Leper - S5-E10

Continuity mistake: When the body falls out of the balloon gondola, the weights that were securely tied to it have disappeared. The corpse also changes positions on the ground between shots, even though no one has touched it. (00:37:30)

Mr. Monk Makes A Friend - S5-E11

Continuity mistake: When the murderer strangles his victim, her music box is dropped on the floor several feet away. Though no one has touched it, the music box is somehow lying only a few inches from her body when the police arrive to investigate. (00:01:20 - 00:04:40)

Mr. Monk Makes A Friend - S5-E11

Continuity mistake: Monk leaves his front door standing open in anticipation of his new friend's arrival. No one goes near the front hall, but when Hal gets there, he lets himself in by opening a door that has somehow closed itself. (00:10:30 - 00:11:50)

Suggested correction: That wasn't the front door that was open. It was the door to the bathroom that is open, which is on the other end of the hallway.

Bishop73

No. It's the front door.

Jean G

The door that's open is the bathroom. You can see the sink and a towel hanging up.

Adrian Monk: Unless I'm wrong, which, you know, I'm not.

Show generally

Question: If Monk is afraid of germs, then why does he keep touching things that could possibly have germs on them like parking meters or books?

Answer: Notice also that in the opening credits scene when he is touching parking meters her also wipes his hand on his clothes each time he does it.

Answer: That's the thing about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's not something rational. He just has to touch things like that. It's not something he can rationally think through. However, since part of his disorder includes an obsession with cleanliness, he also has an assistant walk around handing him wipes periodically. It's like when he gets a cold and uses both a humidifier (because that's what you use when you're congested) and a dehumidifier (to counteract the effects of the humidifier). He may spout rationalizations after he does something, but his compulsions exist outside of any rational thought whatever.
