Mr. Monk and the Magician - S7-E15
Continuity mistake: In the basement, the configuration of the ropes tying Monk to the chair changes repeatedly between shots, from overlapped to straight across and back again. (00:42:00)
Mr. Monk and His Biggest Fan - S6-E1
Continuity mistake: The stacks of yellow craft blocks that Marcy is carving with her knife change both positions and quantity between shots. (00:20:00)
Mr. Monk Gets Married - S2-E15
Character mistake: Monk says West Virginia became a state after the Civil War, West Virginia actually became a state in 1863, during the Civil War.
Mr. Monk Joins a Cult - S6-E11
Continuity mistake: After Dr. Kroger tosses Trudy's picture to the floor, Monk drops the book he's been holding onto the mattress and kneels to retrieve the photo. In the next shot, the book has jumped to a spot on the floor beside him. (00:34:00)
Mr. Monk and the Genius - S7-E2
Continuity mistake: When Monk is telling Captain Stottlemeyer about Trudy's death, he says that by the time he got there, she wasn't even able to speak, that she held his hand and died. However, in "Mr. Monk Meets Dale the Whale," we learn that Trudy's last words were "Bread and butter," and that she said them to Adrian right before she died.
Mr. Monk and the Leper - S5-E10
Continuity mistake: While Dr. Polanski talks to Monk and Natalie in his waiting room, he's gesturing with both hands held out in front of him. When the shot changes angles, he's abruptly standing with his hands clasped behind his back. Next cut, he's gesturing again. (00:05:00)
Mr. Monk Gets Cabin Fever - S3-E12
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Stottlemeyer is smoking an cigar, the size of the cigar and the position of how he is holding it keeps changing from shot to shot.
Mr. Monk Gets Hypnotized - S7-E8
Continuity mistake: At the end, a round dish sitting on the island counter in Monk's kitchen disappears and reappears every time the camera angle reverses. (00:41:00)
Mr. Monk is Someone Else - S8-E4
Continuity mistake: Season 8, Ep. 4, "Mr. Monk is Someone Else": When Lola leads Monk away in the dance club, the peanut dish on the bar behind Natalie moves several inches when the camera angle reverses. (00:19:05)
Mr. Monk Gets Hypnotized - S7-E8
Continuity mistake: The five dollar bill Monk is holding up instantly reverses itself between takes. It also disappears from his hand as he's backing toward the door, then reappears in the shot after that. (00:30:40)
Mr. Monk and the End - Part I - S8-E15
Plot hole: When Randy tells Captain Stottlemeyer that the killer shot the train station announcer and took his jacket and ID, the microphone in the room is still active and everyone in the station hears Randy's conversation. If that's the case, then why didn't everyone in the station hear the gunshot? Even if the killer used a silencer, he would have made noise taking the announcer's jacket and changing his disguise, which would sound like a struggle over the open mic anyway, and it would make no sense to turn it on after killing the man. (00:29:00 - 00:30:00)
Mr. Monk and the Daredevil - S6-E7
Revealing mistake: When Monk, Natalie, and Joey are fighting on the roof, the end of the metal pipe in Joey's hand wobbles around a lot, as if the pipe is made of rubber. (00:37:20)
Mr. Monk Goes to the Bank - S6-E12
Continuity mistake: The living statue street performer holds a water bottle in his left hand while Randy questions him. When his alarm goes off and the shot cuts, the bottle jumps to his right hand. (00:08:15)
Mr. Monk Takes His Medicine - S3-E9
Factual error: The medication Monk is given is called Doxinyl, which is a real medication, but it's an antibiotic, nothing to do with OCD and certainly wouldn't cause the side effects shown.
Mr. Monk and the End - Part II - S8-E16
Continuity mistake: When Mr. Monk is waiting at the fountain to meet Trudy's daughter Molly Evans, he is seen standing up and walking to his right and at the same time he buttons up all three buttons of his suit jacket. He then sits down again at another part of the fountain for a brief moment and stands up again. When he does so, all buttons are now unbuttoned. After this, a man and woman go past him and then Mr. Monk is seen unbuttoning the middle button.
Mr. Monk Gets Stuck in Traffic - S3-E13
Continuity mistake: The murder victim has a dark green environmentalist flag attached to the left/driver's side of his VW Beetle. The flag disappears and reappears several times throughout the first 10 minutes of the episode. (00:10:00)
Mr. Monk and the Other Woman - S1-E8
Plot hole: Monk's led to the killer because he figures out that he "added a file" to the lawyer's filing cabinet, judging by the left/middle/right tabs being off. But this makes no sense on two levels - firstly why would he need to add a file? He was just replacing the real will with a forgery. He just took the old one out and added the new one, he didn't need to mess with the filing system at all. Secondly, he picks that one out because the tabs are offset, but what if the lawyer had just taken on a new client or added other paperwork? Then the tabs would be off too, but that never seems to be considered.
Mr. Monk Paints His Masterpiece - S6-E14
Factual error: When Stottlemeyer and Randy are at the painter's daughter's home they find a picture showing him in front of Carson papers, which leads the Captain to say: they have a contract with the treasury, they are producing the paper for the U.S. currency. This is wrong: the treasury is not in charge of printing the Federal Reserve Notes. Rather it is the privately owned Fed that prints the Federal Reserve Notes and then lends it to the treasury at interest. And the interest added is the reason why there will never be enough money to pay the interest, i.e. the state debt.
Suggested correction: While the Federal Reserve is in charge of maintaining our currency (through the creation or destruction of currency, real or digital), the U.S. Department of Treasury is in fact responsible for printing money, through the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
Mr. Monk and the Genius - S7-E2
Plot hole: Kloster's plan of switching the headstones wouldn't have worked because cemeteries keep records of who's buried in which plot. Before exhuming the body, the records would have been checked and someone would have noticed that the name on the headstone and the name in the records didn't match. (He might have broken into the office and changed the records, but it's never brought up, so he likely didn't.)
Mr. Monk Makes the Playoffs - S7-E13
Continuity mistake: Just where was that evidence locker? Randy borrows a big screen TV from the evidence room and pushes it upstairs toward the ground floor office, indicating the evidence locker is in the basement. But when Natalie arrives and walks through the office, she goes up the stairs instead of down to find Randy with the TV wedged in the stairwell, indicating the evidence room is on the upper floor. The TV wedged itself tight on his way up the stairs, so he hasn't moved it in the meantime: he's in exactly the same spot with the same picture on the wall. (00:40:30)
