But it's a standard 1973 VW: they didn't come with A/C, and though you could add it, it tended to overstress the little air-cooled engine. Look closely and you can see that this VW does not have the bulky under-dash compressor needed to run an add-on A/C.

Continuity mistake: In the beginning of the episode when Ray Galardi is meeting with Steve Marriot the amount of sun between shots constantly changes between shots. One moment that is very noticeable is a shot of just Ray with the hill in the background and a lot of shade. After showing Steve it goes back to Ray and the sun is now very bright.

Continuity mistake: Whilst Monk is talking with Natalie and Julie about halfway through the episode, Natalie asks Monk whether he helped Julie to find somewhere to go to the bathroom. When Julie says she has managed to hold on Monk says, "isn't she a trooper?" and is pointing his finger at her and then lowers his hand. Continuity mistake: In the beginning of the episode, right after Ray Galardi kills Steve Marriot, Galardi puts him in the passenger side door of his VW Beetle and drives him up inside the dump-truck. Galardi puts him in the VW driver's seat, and walks around to the other side of the Beetle. This is all well and good, but, Marriot's head switches positions from the time when Galardi puts him in the car to the time he walks around and starts the engine.

Revealing mistake: The VW Beetle that slides out of the dump truck and rolls over is noticeably not the same car the victim was driving earlier. It's a lighter color, and is already badly dented, even before it's wrecked.

Continuity mistake: When Monk is talking to Daniel on the radio, in the shots from inside the truck, Krystal is standing next to the open door, to Monk's left when he turns to face her. In the shots from outside the truck, Krystal is now away from the door and to Monk's right.

Revealing mistake: When we see a shot of Steve in his car while in the dump truck, it's shot in a studio and the shot is reused each time we see Steve in the car. The shadow is completely different and at one point, when they show Steve in the car with the car and truck bouncing around, you can tell the image is just shaken, rather than the dump truck actually bouncing. There are loose chains hanging off the inside walls that don't move or sway at all.
Answer: Stottlemeyer was already upset after the phone call. He was trying to get "Kevin" (who would have to be a judge, but no further character information is given) to issue a restraining order with no evidence of needing one, except that Adrian Monk said she needs one. Kevin said he would need to "sleep on it." So it's clear they've been trying to provide protection and unable to get the results they need, which seems to be based on no one trusting Monk the way Stottlemeyer does. He's just angry that they failed to protect Linda despite all their work. Although it does feel like a scene was cut, or altered, from the show that shows the futile attempts to protect Linda which built up to his outrage.
