Columbo (1971)

A Deadly State of Mind - S4-E6

Plot hole: Collier damages a post with his car as he leaves the driveway. His car would certainly have been damaged. The storyline is not long enough for Collier to have his car repaired. Columbo knows about the damaged post, but he never looks into how the damage occurred and never looks at Collier's car, which would have been incriminating.

Airport (1970)

Plot hole: Petroni has the engines at full power to move the plane out of the rut. Once the plane is free, he never pulls the power back. With that power, the plane would accelerate down the runway until it took off or hit something.

A Walton Wedding (1995)

Plot hole: Why didn't John declare his conflict of interest to the Board of County Supervisors as soon as Ben told him about the lumber contract he had signed?

Columbo (1971)

Troubled Waters - S4-E4

Plot hole: After Danziger fires the revolver into the mattress, Columbo compares that slug with the murder slug. He puts them both on a narrow railing. It is noticeably windy, and ships often roll with waves. Columbo would not risk losing both pieces of evidence.

High Potential (2024)

Partners - S1-E12

Plot hole: The poison is in the dog collar. Anson gets the poison from touching the collar. Why didn't the dog get any poison from the collar?

Suggested correction: The poison cannot penetrate the skin as dogs don't have sweat glands on their bodies (except on the paws).

Columbo (1971)

An Exercise in Fatality - S4-E1

Plot hole: When Columbo finds Stafford's street shoes in his locker, they are tied. How did Janus get his shoes off without untying them? If Janus did untie them, why did he retie them before putting them in the locker? And why didn't Columbo wonder why someone would take off his shoes and tie them before putting them away?

Suggested correction: I'm not sure how this is a mistake. I always take my shoes off without untying them.

Bishop73

I can't take off my lace shoes without untying them. How do you do it?

Leicaman

Guessing by them not being tied too tightly. Depends entirely on how much give is in the shoes or the laces - it's certainly not unreasonable.

Short Fuse - S1-E7

Plot hole: We are told several times that the road to the mountain house is very narrow and difficult to negotiate. How did the very large crane get there so quickly to lift the bodies after the crash?

True Lies (2023)

Independent Dependents - S1-E7

Plot hole: When Helen goes into the air ducts, she simply removes the grates. They would not be loose like that, they would be firmly attached. When the team enters the basement they go through an ordinary door by picking an ordinary lock. A very high security installation like Axe Industries would not have such an insecure entry, even into the basement.

Young Sheldon (2017)

Freshman Orientation and the Inventor of the Zipper - S4-E6

Plot hole: Memaw gets a call from Dr. Sturgis saying that he has moved to Waxahatchie and would she please call him back. He does not say the new phone number, and this was well before cell phones were in widespread use by the general public, so it could only be a land line. Memaw calls him back, although she could not know the number.

Suggested correction: Just watched the clip. Sturgis calls Mary, leaves a message. She calls him back; I'd guess his local number. He says "I've taken a job there", which is what you say when you're not at the place yet (otherwise you'd say here). Says he won't be there when Sheldon starts college.

Suggested correction: Memaw could have caller ID, or she could have called information.

Caller ID was first available in December 1988, and it's unlikely that Memaw would have it that early. The story takes place before that time. It is possible that she called information, but when did she do it?
