Trivia: The NYPD doesn't actually use the phrase "third watch" to refer to that particular shift. Series creator Edward Berneo had been a police officer in Chicago, and thinking it would make a good title, borrowed the phrase from the Chicago PD.

Trivia: At the end of the film, Michael Lang mentions he's going to California to put on another free concert with the Rolling Stones. He's referring to the infamous "Altamont concert" where the Hells Angels motorcycle gang provided security, which resulted in a number of people being beaten up, two people dying in a hit-and-run accident, one accidentally drowning, and another being stabbed to death.

Trivia: Donald Bellisario was originally against casting Catherine Bell as Mac. Since Bell had played a murder victim in the last episode of season 1, Bellisario felt her re-appearance as Harm's new partner in the first episode of season 2 would confuse the audience. Bell eventually won Bellisario over, and she remained on the show for the rest of the show's run.
