The Spy Who Loved Me

Plot hole: Right before Bond hops on the moving camera globe to go blow up the barrier to the control room on the Liparus, they show a shot of one of the firing slots on the control room open and the guards firing at Bond. Through the port, you can see that Bond is on the catwalk above the walkway to the barrier. But when Bond climbs down onto the camera globe, and when he's sliding back on the track, nobody fires a shot, even though he's now in a direct line of fire with those firing ports and the guards have a totally clear shot at him.

Other mistake: When Bond shoots Stromberg down the barrel of the undertable spear gun, his PPK visibly suffers from a stovepipe jam (the blank round becoming stuck in the ejection port) twice, possibly due to a repeat shot. However Bond is then seen firing several more shots into Stromberg without clearing the jam.

Visible crew/equipment: As Q stops the Lotus for Bond, the orange car that followed Q off the ferry passes in front of the camera. As it does, the camera and crewman are reflected on the car's glass.

Movie Nut

Continuity mistake: When Bond is waiting to meet Stromberg he notices the remains of the women killed at the beginning by the shark, but the tank with the shark in has nothing in it but water and the shark. The tank Bond is looking at has coral and other fish in it.

Revealing mistake: During the ski chase, just after Bond has shot Sergei Barsov, you can see several red and white overhead lights behind him.

Harry

Continuity mistake: When we see Stromberg's living room from the inside, there is very little space between the windows, and the corner column is very narrow. But when we see it from the outside (when the Helicopter is taking off) there is more then 2 meters between the windows.

Jacob La Cour

Continuity mistake: When Stromberg raises his 'house' from the sea, in the first shot where the paintings slide up, you can see the water's surface in the top of the window. But in the next clip, exterior shot, the house is still fully submerged. And based on the size of the house and the location of Stromberg's living room, his windows must have been 10-20 meters below the surface in the first situation.

Jacob La Cour

Continuity mistake: When Bond is chased by agent Barsov, you see a clip where Bond has gone through quite deep, new snow - leaving two tracks in the fresh snow. In the next clip, when Bond turns to fire his ski pole missile, he is riding on a prepared piste with a lot of other tracks.

Jacob La Cour

Factual error: When Bond and Amasova are on the speed boat going to see Stromberg, the underwater lair is super-imposed on the horizon, rather than midway. This would make the lair around 50 miles high.

wizard_of_gore

Revealing mistake: When Agent XXX releases the mine under the Lotus, the shadow of the car can still be seen over the mine as it explodes, which should have left the car damaged at such close range.

jbrbbt

Revealing mistake: When Bond and XXX are visiting Stromberg's home by speed boat it shifts or rocks in the water when they step on board. This is normal, because speed boats are very unstable. When they reach Stromberg, they have to step off, but the boat does not shift in the water as it should, in fact, the way the boat slowed and stopped was stiff and unnatural. Obviously indicating the boat was on a trailer for these scenes.

Vince van Riet

Audio problem: When Bond knocks the gun out of Shandor's hand during the fight on the roof, the sound is definitely not a gun on a stone floor - and it comes too soon after the gun leaves his hand. It would not have reached the floor yet.

Jacob La Cour

Character mistake: Anya says she stole the blueprints two years ago for the submarine car she was riding in with Bond, yet she seemed to be completely unaware she was in such a car when the car first went into the water.

jbrbbt

Continuity mistake: When Bond places the OHP film on the tracker, it perfectly matches the line of the course, whereas when Q arrives on the scene, the line of the tracker deviates.

Continuity mistake: When XXX is freed by 007 to escape the torpedoed base she is wearing a red bikini. As the escape develops this changes to black.

Suggested correction: It's not a bikini, it's a dress (with a bikini-type top half). And it turns a darker colour because of being soaked from water during the escape.

Other mistake: When the captain of Stromberg One tells missile control they have a change of target he reads a new set of coordinates (which is really Stromberg Two). But if you look at the paper that was just printed the coordinates he reads are not on the paper.

Other mistake: Just after Naomi winks at Bond the helicopter turns to the left. The same piece of film is used again just as Bond drives onto the jetty.

James Bond: Which bullet has my name on it? The first or the last?
Major Anya Amasova: I have never failed on a mission, Commander. Any mission.
James Bond: In that case, Major, one of us is bound to end up gravely disappointed, because neither have I.

Question: I have two questions. Firstly, where did they film the scenes when Bond and Anya first encounter Jaws, it looks like the Karnak Temple to me. And secondly, why was Bond so desperate to rescue Anya at the end, considering he knew full well that Anya was planning to kill him after the mission was complete (although thankfully she changed her mind).

Gavin Jackson

Answer: First, it was indeed filmed at Karnak. Second, he rescues her because they are, for the time being, on the same side-therefore, she is an ally, and Bond won't just leave her to drown/die. I think, if he is even mindful of her promise during the heat of the moment, he would still consider it wrong to leave her behind; while the mission is on, she's a colleague in distress, and that's that. Once the mission is over, she can do what she likes, and Bond will deal with it then. (Though his surprise when she first draws the gun on him in the escape pod suggests he wasn't taking her threat seriously, so...bit of a freebie for him).
