Other mistake: When Haskins and the other coach are going on their recruiting trips in the beginning, we can see the two of them talking on the phone. Funny thing is, that both of them are using pay phones. So who called who? How did they know the number? And how did they know when the other one was going to be near that pay phone? I feel it is highly impossible for one to reach the other when both of them are using pay phones.
Other mistake: The timing for the Hall of Fame vote is all wrong. The vote and the announcement for the Hall of Fame happen in December and January, not during the middle of the season.
Other mistake: I don't care HOW hard it started raining at the end of the final football game, there is no way that the field got THAT muddy and that torn up only 30-45 seconds after the rain started.
Other mistake: When the USA soccer world cup team is practicing in New York, on some field in Long Island, in several shots you can see the steeple for Union Avenue Christian Church, which is actually located in Saint Louis, Missouri.
Other mistake: In the fight scene where Bohdi helps special agent Utah you see that his surf board gets broken in two and then after the fight he is seen leaving without the board, but in the scene where he and Tyler are woken up early to go surf right before Tyler says "you look like you just saw a ghost" you see him carrying the same board.
Other mistake: Near the end when Lindsey goes to Fenway to stop Ben from selling his tickets, she borrows binoculars from someone to find him across the field. She's looking through the wrong end. The way she's holding them, everything would look tiny, and yet she still sees him.
Other mistake: Although the film's story covers the better part of a year, Dakota Fanning's permanent upper frontal incisor (permanent tooth) is just beginning to emerge. At the end of the film. months and months later, her tooth is still just beginning to emerge.
Other mistake: In the part where Josh is sweeping the basketball court behind the church you notice that there are faded white paw prints. Then later when Josh is painting it Buddy walks directly on the white prints. Were these there to show Buddy where to walk?
Other mistake: There's no way Harry could've smashed the cigarette vending machine at the gas station without somebody inside seeing him.
Other mistake: In the last game, Chet pitches six innings ("You gave me six great innings!"), then Henry takes over pitching, meaning he'd be pitching in the 7th inning. Sounds good, until we fast forward to the 9th, with Heddo batting with two outs... Assuming Henry was perfect, Heddo would be the 9th batter Henry faced, meaning he would've been Chet's last out in the 6th, which of course he wasn't (the Chet play at the plate ended the 6th and he wasn't facing Heddo.) Also, Heddo was seen walking up to the plate after the second out of the inning (the rundown at second base), with Martinella saying something like "holy goosebumps, it's Heddo" as he approached. Heddo would've been on deck, so it wasn't a surprise, plus he would've already been at the plate prior to the rundown play.
Suggested correction: There is a reasonable explanation for both of those points. Heddo could have been a substitution player after the sixth inning, or be a pinch hitter, so hadn't been to bat yet. This would be logical since Heddo is a fastball hitter and they think Henry is still throwing fastballs, so as a last ditch sent him in. For why they didn't notice that Heddo was on deck, they were captivated by the on-field action, and with Henry off the mound going over by first base and doing stupid stuff, hadn't looked over yet to see who was next.
Other mistake: After the drivers enter their cars at the Daytona 500 at the end, there is a shot where Russ Wheeler's #18 Hardee's car is in the inside lane and mid-pack a row ahead of Cole's car on the outside. In the overhead shot as they get the "start your engines" command and the shot immediately following, you see Cole on the inside and Russ on the outside of the last row. This is compounded because they show Russ looking to his right and Cole to his left at each other indicating that they have reversed sides again. Also, Russ starting mid-pack would not be feasible and back of the pack unlikely since they said he won the pole. Even with the Duels races setting up the lineup, the front row qualifiers still stay the same at Daytona. Russ could be at the back if he made changes to his car (which Cole did). Not sure if either of those rules were different in 1993. Along the line of the Duels, the plot seems to imply it is Cole's first time back in the car and he is nervous. However, he would have run in practice and his duel race already by the start of the 500.
Other mistake: In one shot, a man is leaning over Feng and speaking in Chinese to him. The woman sitting next to Feng translates and says that it means the man has to go to the bathroom. Feng explains where it is and sits down. After, it switches shots to show the man leaving Feng's "throne" in the backround and sitting down, not going to the bathroom.
Other mistake: In the 7th game of the season, a scoreboard shows the score with about 3:08 to go in the game as 43-12, but next the announcer says they lost 35 to 12.
Other mistake: When Kit Mambo prepares to catch up with Renè Fromage, she first overtakes two guys (the raccoon and the bighorn sheep) on 'third and fourth positions' - as announced by Barbara Warbler, then she passes the sheep and the camel before she catches up with Renè. This would place her first competitors on positions five and four, instead of three and four.
Other mistake: Near the beginning, a player takes a shot that misses the basket. Immediately thereafter there is an off-camera sound of a window breaking. The windows in the gym are near the ceiling and the ball could not have hit any of them. In addition, later shots of the windows do not show any that are broken.
Other mistake: When Marcela and Howard are viewing Seabiscuit for the first time (when he's weaving all over the place) it looks like it was done before as Seabiscuit follows a thin ribbon of disturbed ground that is weaving in and out. Its unlikely any other horse would be weaving like that.
Other mistake: All the baseballs used in the movie (or at least the ones you can see up close), were official Major League Baseballs. At the time the movie is supposed to take place, 1999, Rawlings made separate baseballs for the American and National Leagues. The official Rawlings Major League Baseball wasn't used until 2000.
Other mistake: In the final game, after Gretchen has struck out for the first time, look carefully and you will see Nelson is running out of the dug-out like he is next to bat. Then in the next scene, suddenly it is Jarrett up to bat instead of Nelson.
Other mistake: At the start of the tournament, Big Earn steps beyond the foul line in his first frame.
Other mistake: In the very last scene, we see a poster for Time magazine telling the story of the husband and wife Kung fu athletes. The bottom line reads "Wins World champion Bowling again". It should be "Championship".
