Continuity mistake: While Magnum is at Page's desk looking at the NYC arrest report, it cuts to Doheny at the estate as he opens his suitcase and lifts the gold picture frame. The problem is, in this shot the black easel back has been inserted within the gold frame upside down, note the frame's open end. Then in the next shot, the easel back is inserted properly within the frame. (00:33:00)
Continuity mistake: When Magnum answers the phone call from John Costa he's wearing the new shirt with a striped colorful pattern, which was a birthday present from his mother. During Magnum's introduction to Costa in the alley, the style of Magnum's shirt is the same, but the striped pattern has changed. Then the pattern changes again when Magnum returns home bruised. Continuity mistake: When Higgins and Del Haynes leave the house Higgins is wearing his camo vest and hat, which he wears throughout the episode until the end. Though the style of his hat and vest remain the same, the actual camouflage pattern on both the hat and vest changes. There are two different hats and three different vests. The changes even occur between shots, such as during the scene at the end when Higgins returns to the estate.
Continuity mistake: At Agent Estin's office, Bryant is wearing a plaid shirt with bold vertical pastel stripes, and pink stripes at the edges of his collar, but during the drive home in TC's van, the vertical stripes on Bryant's shirt have changed, though it still has the same pattern. Note the blue stripes at the edges of his collar. (00:06:30 - 00:08:40)
Continuity mistake: When TC gets off the phone he tells the others that somebody must go to the Sea Palms Hotel, room 401. During their joint mission, Magnum responds to TC on the walkie and tells him he'll call back when he's in the room. Then Magnum enters room 1201, not room 401 as the kidnappers had instructed, right before the kidnappers call room 1201. (00:37:00 - 00:38:30)
Continuity mistake: While Norm Vogel is meeting with a man at the Hawaii Museum, getting information about the tiny shells from Alea's necklace, in the wide shot we see the map with the island of Molokai, when they walk over to it. In the next closeup of the map, there are now three small (fictional) islands north of the island of Molokai, which have been deliberately drawn onto the map for this closeup. (00:32:50)
Continuity mistake: When Magnum takes one of the outrigger canoes, the paddle he uses to paddle away from the island has a normal handle, but in the overhead wide shot facing Magnum's back, he's using a paddle with a T-grip handle, then it's back to the paddle with a normal handle in following shots. Continuity mistake: While Rick goes around asking if anyone's seen Magnum, there's a closeup of Rita as she pulls back one side of her blouse to admire her new tattoo, and in this closeup she's wearing a watch with a silver face and her new tattoo has a horizontal curve, but in the next shot Rita's watch is a smaller all black style and the tattoo is now more vertical.
