Question: I heard talk of a sequel. Does this mean that Chev survived and the fall was the antidote?

Question: How come the kryptonite Superman is stabbed with pierces his skin but the needle that the doctors use a bit later on him doesn't?
Answer: Because Kryptonite has specific properties that nullify Clark's powers so the improvised blade goes straight through his protection. An ordinary needle has no such effect.

Shakespeare in Love (1998)
Question: The scene when Wessex thinks that Shakespeare is dead, but he then comes into the church and Wessex thinks he is a ghost come to haunt him, seems like the scene in Shakespeare's play Macbeth when Macbeth sees Banquo's ghost. Is this another example by the film-makers of showing how Shakespeare's life inspired his plays, or just a coincidence? Was Macbeth written before or after this film was set? Thanks.
Answer: Oh, it's undoubtedly intentional, another of the many nods to Shakespeare's work scattered throughout the film. The precise date of authorship of Macbeth is unclear, but even the earliest likely date is still some years after the setting of the film.

I saw a movie in the mid to late 70's(i think). It was a psycho - thriller of a guy in a coma. I believe the title of the movie was Patrick, but i'm not sure. Can you verify my attempt of long term memory?
Answer: Yep, looks like your memory's on form. 1978 film of that title deals with a comatose patient, the titular Patrick, using telekinetic abilities to harrass and kill those around him in order to claim an attractive nurse as his own.

Me and my mum have been racking our brains to remember the title of a film we saw a few years back. We think it starred Ben Affleck. A guy who has a family has been away and is travelling back to them, I think his plane becomes delayed or something and 'Ben Affleck' gives his plane ticket to him so he can get home sooner. But the plane crashes, and the man dies. So 'Ben Affleck' finds himself feeling guilty for what happened to the guy and he becomes involved in the dead guys life. And plans to tell the wife of the guy what happened but ends up falling in love with the wife. Does anyone recognise this brief plot?
Answer: This is the 2000 film Bounce, starring Affleck and Gwyneth Paltrow.

In the answer to another question, someone (with screen name Tailkinker) wrote, "filmmakers aren't going to inflict actual harm on human beings during the making of their films (intentionally, anyway - James Cameron notwithstanding)". What's this about? I know who James Cameron is, but is he renowned for injuring his actors or something? Thanks.
Answer: Cool, a question about an answer to another question. Like it. While intended humorously, Cameron has achieved a degree of notoriety for putting his actors through hell in the course of making a film. This is principally due to making "The Abyss" (also known on-set by various nicknames, including "The Abuse" or "Son of A Byss"), where actors and crew alike were expected to spend a considerable period of time underwater, to the extent that they sometimes needed to decompress at the end of the day's shoot. Ever since, Cameron has had a reputation as being a hard taskmaster while making films.

Is there some kind of horror film where a baby crawls along a ceiling and its head turns all the way around? It seems to have been parodied by Family Guy and The Simpsons. What is the film called?
Answer: The baby crawling on the ceiling is a reference to Renton's hallucinations while going cold-turkey in Trainspotting.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982)
Question: Presumably, the Genesis Planet was formed out of the dust and gas of the Mutara Nebula. But where did its sun come from?
Chosen answer: According to the novelisation of the film the Genesis project was initially designed to be capable of creating an entire solar system. While the focus of the project eventually narrowed down to altering an individual planet, the sub-routines necessary to create a star were still in place and were activated when the device detonated within the nebula.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Question: When Will goes looking for the key on the destroyed ship, a sailor falls in the foreground, and when Will approaches him he has no face whatsoever. Did the kraken do that? Why and how was he still alive?
Answer: Yes, the idea is that this poor soul got too close to one of the Kraken's tentacles and one of the suckers pulled his face off. Presumably he can still breathe in some fashion, something has been left that allows air access to the lungs, allowing him to still be alive, although it doesn't sound like he's long for this world, so presumably the damage is extensive.

Constantine (2005)
Question: Who or what is Papa Midnite? He is obviously powerful and is neutral, so not an angel or a demon - so who is he?
Answer: In the comics, Midnite is a powerful human mage, born in the eighteenth century, who has been cursed with immortality. Without information to the contrary in the film, it can be assumed that the same applies to his cinematic incarnation.
Answer: In the movie, they call him a shaman and a witch doctor. So he would still be a human mage.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Question: What is the relationship between the Trade Federation and the Senate? I mean I know that the Senate is supposed to be made up of representatives from planets in the Republic. But the TF also have representatives there. But the TF isn't just one planet is it? I thought that it was a company/organisation as such that encompassed lots of different planets (like the Federation in Star Trek)?
Chosen answer: The Trade Federation started out as a loose confederation of merchants and shipping providers who banded together to ensure that they had effective control over trade routes throughout the galaxy. Under the leadership of the Neimoidians, they took precautions to maintain that control, including a substantial military to protect their interests. This ultimately gave them enough political clout to achieve representation in the Senate at the same level as a member world.

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Question: I have read that this film was not received well among SW fans. I first saw this in the cinema and thought it was great and even now I still consider it a really good film and I love all of the films as a whole. I am just wondering why it is considered not as good as the rest?
Chosen answer: A lot of people felt that the more political nature of the film was inferior to the more swashbuckling feel of the original trilogy - after all, a trade dispute isn't inherently as entertaining as a rebellion against an evil Empire. They felt that the dialogue was rather clunky and delivered in a somewhat wooden fashion, which is in many ways a not unfair point, although the scripting accusation applies equally to the original trilogy (Lucas simply isn't a good writer of dialogue). In the end, the main problem was that, over the years, the original trilogy have gained an almost mythical status and have a substantial nostalgia factor, to the extent that a number of fans at the time were quoted as saying that the release of a new Star Wars film was to be a defining moment in their lives. The expectation levels were so high that it would have been impossible for any film, no matter how good, to live up to them - disappointment was inevitable.

The Bourne Supremacy (2004)
Question: How did Jarda, the last treadstone agent (besides Bourne) set off the silent alarm in his house?
Chosen answer: While it's not explicitly spelled out, it's suggested that he was suspicious from the moment he entered the house (which is why he quickly goes for the gun in the fridge), so what he entered on the alarm keypad when he came in was not a disarm code, but was instead some sort of emergency code which called for backup.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006)
Question: This is pertaining to the dice game where the crew were betting their years as part of Davey Jones's ship. Did anybody understand how the game worked. What was the purpose? What was the deal with the numbers they were calling out?
Chosen answer: This is a real game called Liar's Dice, specifically the Common Hand variation. The idea is to predict, or pretend to predict, what will appear when the dice are finally revealed; for example, a call of "six fives" is a claim that, when the dice are revealed, there'll be six (or more) fives showing. Each player, however, can only see their own set of dice, so must guess what the other players have, based on what bids they make. The game proceeds with each player having the choice to either raise the bid to a higher level, or challenge the preceding player's claim. Once a challenge is made, the dice are revealed; if the challenged bid is shown to be correct, the challenger loses; if it's shown to be false, then whoever made that bid loses.

X-Men 3 (2006)
Question: Did the mutants always have a class system or was this just for the movie? I'm curious because at the meeting we are told Pyro is above a class 3 and the girl that has the speed and ability to find mutants is under a class 3. Shouldn't she be rated higher than Pyro since she has two powers and he only has one?
Answer: There is a classification system in the comics, although precise details have never been spelled out. Omega-level is considered the most powerful, allocated only to those with effectively unlimited potential and thus is the equivalent of the Class Five mentioned in the film. The next most powerful are classified as Alpha-level, followed by Beta and so forth. Other ranks apparently exist - Jean Grey's nephew and niece, both latent mutants, were referred to as being classified as Epsilon-Delta, which may be the lowest level, reserved for mutants whose abilities have not yet manifested. The number of powers is not necessarily an indication of level; what matters more is the level at which those powers function. Callisto, despite having two powers to Pyro's one, may operate at a generally lower level and thus be ranked lower. Alternatively, it is suggested in the novelisation of the film that Callisto simply wasn't including herself when she stated that there wasn't anybody else higher than a class three present.

Answer: That would depend very much on the nature of the sequel. It may be intended to feature the original character, in which case he must have survived. Alternatively, the sequel may be intending to use an entirely new character in a similar situation, in which case Chev's fate is open to debate.
