Answer: It was also because he was in possession of one of the Piece of Eight required (or rather, knew where it was) for Tia Dalma to be released from her human form. Plus, she needed someone she had leverage over, to help her get the other Pirate Lords together so that all the Pieces of Eight could be gathered (and stolen by Barbossa). She needed Jack back because he took his Piece of Eight along with him to the Locker.

Question: I'm curious, when Beckett and his men first board The Dutchman, he says to Jones, 'This is no longer your world. The immaterial has become immaterial,' what's his meaning? Also straight after, we see a load of his men aiming their guns at Davy Jones' heart. What's that all about?
Answer: Beckett is saying that mythological beings like Jones, entities that he doesn't really consider to be part of the normal material world have become irrelevant, that they don't matter any more. Aiming the guns at the heart is purely a threat, telling Jones that if he doesn't do what they tell him to, they'll destroy the heart and him along with it.

Question: Did anyone hear exactly what Gibbs said at the brethren court meeting? He explains why they didn't use the pieces of eight like they intended, but instead used pieces of junk.
Answer: They didn't use pieces of eight because they were all broke and didn't have any pieces of eight to use. In the end, they simply used whatever they had available at the time.

Answer: They are as follows: Jack Sparrow (who would probably claim a different origin depending on which day of the week it was, but is likely of British stock, possibly with a mother of Caribbean origin), Hector Barbossa (whose accent suggests a British origin, although his surname suggests that he may be of Spanish or Italian stock), Ammand the Corsair (Turkish), Capitaine Chevalle (French), Mistress Ching (Chinese), Gentleman Jocard (African, precise nationality unknown), Sri Sumbhajee (Indian), Captain Sao Feng (Chinese), with his position being later taken by Elizabeth Swann, and Captain Eduardo Villanueva (Spanish).

Question: When Davy Jones stabs Will, Jack looks absolutely devastated. Does he really care about Will, or is it because his plan didn't work, that he was considering becoming the new captain?
Answer: Because he knows that, in order for Will to live, he has to give up his chance at immortality. And the hidden part of him that's a decent man knows that he can't just let Will die. He's seeing his dream of sailing the oceans for eternity die in front of him.
He is a good man, the Wicked Wench became the Black Pearl after Beckett sunk the ship as Sparrow let the slaves go and didn't hand them over, this is when he made a deal with Davy Jones to resurrect the ship.
But remember that Will, before he got stabbed by Davy Jones, reminded Jack that he "has to do the duty" by this he mean so.
That he'll have to ferry the souls over to the afterlife, so I believe that Jack did care for Will and didn't want him to die when Elizabeth and him just got married and were expecting a future.

Question: In the final shot of the film, is it really Matt Damon lying there on the floor, or a body double? Nobody else has noticed, but something just doesn't seem right. It looks like the hair is darker/cut differently, and the facial features don't feel right.
Answer: I've had a good look and, to be honest, it just looks like Matt Damon to me. He's got his face pressed against the floor, which is always going to make it look a little distorted - it's not a particularly natural way to lie. Hair colour looks right - if anything, it looks a little lighter than the shot immediately before he's killed, something readily explained by lighting. In the end, given that the face is visible, there's no way they'd use a body double, nor is there any reason to do so.

Question: Did Davey Jones corrupt his purpose? Is that why he turned out the way he did? His purpose was to ferry souls to the next world, was he not properly doing that?
Answer: Pretty much, yes. He carried out his duties faithfully for the first ten years, then returned to shore, to find Calypso missing. After that, he refused to continue, leading to his current state.
Answer: Like all pirates, he double crossed her. He seduced and captured her in human form, by controlling her he could control the seas. She in turn double crossed him cursing him to the Flying Dutchman.
That's not what happened at all.
It was the Brethern Court that did that I believe.

Question: In the very last shot before the credits, the camera has pulled back to reveal a row of tanks containing dead Jackmans. Does this imply that not only did the Tesla machine replicate Angier, but also the tank? One assumes then that Angier has had the forethought to place a floor between where he materializes and the newly replicated tanks appear.
Answer: As we see when Borden goes down under the stage to try to learn how the trick is performed, the tank is already in place before the machine is activated. Angier is using a large number of identical tanks, which is probably one of the deciding factors in only performing the trick a limited number of times.

Question: I haven't read all of the Star Wars books, but one mentions Prince Xizor being involved in Owen and Beru's death. Was he?
Answer: No, he wasn't. Xizor didn't learn about Luke until the events of The Empire Strikes Back, when he listened in on the holocomm conversation between Vader and the Emperor, a couple of years after Owen and Beru were killed by the stormtroopers. He had no reason to be interested in a couple of moisture farmers.

Question: Approximately how long does Luke train with Yoda on Dagobah?
Answer: It's never made clear. The only rough indication of time is that, when discussing which system to hide out in, Han comments that Bespin is a long way but that he thinks they can make it, which suggests a flight of considerable duration. Given that we're talking about two different star systems (Anoat and Bespin), even if those stars are unusually close together, without the hyperdrive operational, the flight must be reckoned of the order of some months. This would also tie in with Yoda apparently having taught Luke a considerable amount despite considering him too old and too set in his ways to learn properly.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Question: Something I didn't quite understand about the locations of the places in Middle Earth. In FOTR when the group is trapped on the mountain Boromir suggests that they turn around and take the road to Gondor but Aragorn says it will take them too close to Isengard. In this film however we only see that Mordor is (also?)close to Gondor (Minas Tirith). I don't remember that Isengard was close to Mordor. If all this is true could that mean that Saruman knew that the group was either going to take the road to Gondor OR go through the Mines of Moria, knowing that he could catch them if they went through Gondor?
Answer: Isengard isn't particularly close to Gondor, but it is very close to the road that leads there. If the Fellowship abandon their attempt to cross the Misty Mountains and head south, then the only option that they have to reach Gondor is to pass through the Gap of Rohan, a narrow opening between the Misty Mountains to the north and the White Mountains to the south, then head eastwards all the way through Rohan until they finally enter Gondor. Isengard was originally constructed to guard the Gap, so any attempt to travel that way will take them straight past Saruman's front door, which is far too much of a risk. Saruman knows full well that the Fellowship only have a few options regarding their route, so he's keeping an eye on the possible routes.

Question: Why did Beckett not fire back on The Black Pearl and The Flying Dutchman when they joined forces against him? Is it meant to be 'artistic licence'?
Answer: Because he was so shocked at the turn in events that he simply froze up. It happens - people simply hit a situation which they can't deal with and freeze up. By the time he finally gets his head around it, it's far too late, the ship's already being destroyed around him and his men are abandoning ship. At that point, giving the 'fire' order would be pointless - there's nobody left at the guns.

Question: Why was there never a tribute to Richard Harris in the credits of any of the Harry Potter movies? I understand he died 2 weeks before the Chamber of Secretes debuted in theaters, however there was plenty of time to put a tribute in the credits of The Prisoner of Azkaban.
Chosen answer: Probably because it was eighteen months later by that point and, in the end, Harris really had nothing to do with that film, making a tribute to him in the credits inappropriate.

Question: Does anyone know how or if Obi-Wan was going to pay Han for taking him and Luke to Alderaan, if they had gotten there? If he had 17,000, why didn't he just pay the 10,000 that Han originally wanted?
Answer: In the next scene, after leaving the bar, Obi-Wan says, "You'll have to sell your speeder" to Luke. He replies, "Good, I'm never coming back here again." He also agrees to the price for passage, the extra is to insure that Han delivers them. No double crosses or selling them out to the Empire.
Answer: He didn't have it - he was presumably expecting that Bail Organa would provide the money on their arrival. That's why he upped the fee, to get Han to take him and Luke despite not receiving much money up front.
Answer: Obi Wan does not know or trust Han Solo. He had no money other than the 2,000 for Luke's speeder, but even if he had the full amount, he would not have paid Han the additional 15,000 until he had safely delivered him, Luke, and the droids to Alderan. He offers the higher amount knowing it is less likely that Han will just take the 2,000 and run out or turn them over to the Empire for a reward. Obi Wan had no doubts that the Alderan government would pay the remainder of the fee, considering he was there at Princess Leia's request and how important the information was inside R2D2.

General questions
I remember a magic show that was set in a warehouse hosted by a man in a mask. After each trick he'd show how he did it, one of his tricks included him getting into a wooden box and it was blown up by an explosive. Does anyone know the name of this show?
Answer: This was called "Breaking the Magicians' Code", with the subtitle of "Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed". It was hosted by Mitch Pileggi from The X-Files, with an initially unknown character known simply as "The Masked Magician" doing the tricks and revealing the secrets behind them. The show created a great deal of controversy among the magical fraternity for revealing many long-guarded trade secrets. At the end of the final show, the Masked Magician was revealed as a magician named Val Valentino, who was immediately blacklisted by every magic organisation in America, leading to the effective destruction of his career in the US.
