Continuity mistake: During the arrow attack as Captain Willard grabs Chief Phillips to try and make him stop shooting, the sun can be seen setting over his shoulder. Several other shots in this scene, like the next one, were filmed in the mid afternoon with the sun overhead. (02:22:20)

Continuity mistake: As the helicopters land in Vin Drin Dop "The Ride of the Valkyries" is still playing but none of the helicopters have speakers hanging out of their side doors to play the music the way they did before. (00:42:30)

Continuity mistake: As they all sit on the boat and listen to the "Arc light" B-52 strike Lance is sunbathing in direct sunlight. In the next shot he's in the shadow of the roof of the boat as he gets up and says "there they are". (00:24:15)

Continuity mistake: As Chief Phillips is speared he holds on to the roof of the boat with his left hand. The straw has been rearranged from previous shots and is no longer hanging over the side of the roof as it was in the shot before. (02:22:35)

Continuity mistake: One minute into the attack on Vin Din Dop one of the helicopters flies over the schoolyard. This aerial shot is taken around mid-day as there are no shadows visible in schoolyard, unlike the first shot of the schoolyard at the beginning of this scene, which was done when the shadows were long. Continuity mistake: As the boat approaches Kurtz' compound the natives in the canoes are looking forward. In the next shot they're facing sideways looking at the PBR. (02:28:15)

Audio problem: On the beach Colonel Kilgore takes the radio phone from one of his soldiers and calls in the napalm attack on Vin Din Dop. If you look closely at his lips they do not go along with what he's saying. This happens again two shots later when he sends the Vietnamese woman and her baby to the hospital by helicopter. Other mistake: As the woman that threw the grenade into the Medevac helicopter runs away they shoot at her from another helicopter. You can see by the puffs of smoke on the ground that the machine gun fire is not going anywhere near her, or her friend running in front of her as they fall to the ground dead. (00:44:30)

Deliberate mistake: None of the helicopter's in the movie have the Army markings seen on Vietnam era Hueys. The most you'll see is some crooked, faint and inaccurate stencils in the wrong spots. (00:37:50 - 00:51:25)

Audio problem: Right when Captain Willard introduces himself to Colonel Kilgore, the audio track for the background battle sounds cuts out for few seconds. (00:27:20)

Continuity mistake: As Colonel Kilgore calls out to the soldiers surfing in the water Captain Willard's band-aid on his right cheek appears out of nowhere for the first time in the movie. He had no band-aid on his face before this and we don't see him put one on, and there's no indication from the last time we saw his face that his scar started to bleed. (00:47:00)

Continuity mistake: When Colonel Kilgore shows Lance the surf as they fly over the beach he says, "look, good six-foot swells" and his surf board is not on the side of his helicopter as it is in the next shot when they land. (00:45:10)

Continuity mistake: As they approached Vin Din Dop over the beach we see the bridge on the left and no sampans with red sails are there. Fifteen seconds later when they come around the other side of the bridge there are three sampans with red sails unfurled. (00:39:40)

Continuity mistake: Before Colonel Kilgore looks at Captain Willard and says, "Someday this war's gonna end," the Vietnamese women and the soldier waving behind him to his left have moved between shots. (00:49:45)

Visible crew/equipment: As they sit in the foxhole watching the surfers, Lance's helmet gets wet and you can see the reflection of two studio lights, and the crew standing between them, in it. (00:47:10)

Continuity mistake: In one shot we see the helicopters firing on the huts along the Vin Din Dop beach and the four missiles go directly into the beach nowhere near the huts. In the next shot the middle hut blows up. (00:40:00)
