Audio problem: When E.T. is home alone using the Speak & Spell for the first time, he types in E at one point, but the electronic voice can be heard saying F instead. (00:46:10)
Audio problem: When Mary is reading Peter Pan to Gertie, her shadow's lips don't match up with the words she is saying.
Audio problem: When Elliot frees the frogs and cries "I gotta save you, I gotta let you go!", his lips aren't moving.
Other mistake: In all the shots of ET wearing the white sheet the two eye holes are about a foot apart, so he could see out of the holes properly, but when Michael finds the white sheet ET had been wearing he lifts the material and we see that the two eye holes are only about two inches apart, which makes no sense. (It was Gertie's sheet that had eye holes so close together).
Elliot: Okay, he's a man from outer space, and we're taking him to his spaceship.
Greg: Well, can't he just beam up?
Elliot: This is reality, Greg.
Trivia: When the children go out on Halloween night, they pass other children dressed up. One that they pass is dressed as Yoda from Star Wars, and at this point the music plays Yoda's theme from Star Wars. John Williams wrote the music for both films.
