Question: What would happen if Lucy stayed up all night and she was with Henry? Would she all of a sudden forget him or would it happen very slowly?

leyesalot82789

Chosen answer: Apparently, she loses all her daily memories when she enters a full sleep, so keeping her awake would have given them a chance to see each other for longer periods.

Then my question is what about the naps during the day that she takes?

Naps would reset her brain like any other sleep.

Question: If Lucy's father was the one that gave Henry the Beach Boys CD, how could Henry take that as a sign that Lucy remembers him?

Matty Blast

Chosen answer: Lucy's father previously told Henry that she only sings on days that she meets him - then you see a flash of her painting in the garage, singing a Beach Boys song. Right before he hands Henry the Beach Boys CD, he tells him that she's even singing again. Henry realized as he listened to CD - maybe if she is singing again, she is thinking of him, hence, remembering him. (It happens to be the same song that she was singing in the garage that's playing on the boat when Henry turns around to go back. It's called 'Wouldn't It Be Nice').

Why wouldn't the father just tell him directly "hey she's been painting and singing again, so she probably might remember you"

Question: When Henry and Lucy are getting intimate and Henry sees the two dolphins in the tank watching, he calls them Mary Kate and Ashley. I know who they are but why does he refer to them like this?

Answer: Probably because it was the dolphins' names. Someone probably thought the dolphins looked alike and that it would be funny if they were named after the famous twins.

Question: Who is the artist that paints Lucy's murals? I would like to buy some of this artist's work. Please tell me it's Drew herself.

Answer: The credits have three different painters listed. They are David Carberry, Cole Chetney, and Samuel Pactol. Since there were so many pieces in the movie it's a pretty safe bet they all contributed.

oddy knocky

Question: This isn't in the movie but in the deleted scenes (I think it's called "a second wind") Lucy entices him up to her room by saying something like "I feel a second wind coming on". What does this mean? Is it a sexual term? I know this can't be an in-joke they have together because she wouldn't remember it.

Answer: "Second wind" is a term that describes a burst of energy after someone has done something tiring. It's the result of adrenaline kicking in. Even though you should be worn out, the adrenaline gives you new energy and you're able to keep going. It's not a sexual term, but it can certainly be used in a sexual context.

Question: Why do Lucy's brother and dad have to fix every thing after she goes to sleep, even up to the right amount of soap she used?

Answer: Lucy remembers everything up to the day before she was in the auto accident that caused her brain to have the memory loss. Her brother and dad realised that if everything up to the day of her accident is not perfect (according to her memory), eg. a difference in the amount of soap, then she would begin questioning why things were out of place, and she could possibly become hysterical, causing more mental damage to her. Her brother and dad would then have to futilely explain to her what is going on daily, and they did not want that. They wanted everyone to have as peaceful and tranquil lives as possible.

Scott215

Question: The scene where Lucy is at the mental institution and she's drawn Henry a million times, did that actually happen?

Answer: Yes, it did happen: right as it did in the movie. Henry was on the boat, thought that Lucy remembered him, turned around, went into the hospital, and saw the paintings. But the movie then skipped many years into the future and showed Lucy and Henry about, maybe 5 years later on the boat in Alaska. It was shown like this so you would know how they got back together, but they also wanted you to see how they ended up. Hope this helps, it took me a while to figure this out anyway!

Question: What is the song playing when Henry is trying to pick up Lucy on the road?

Answer: "Friday I'm in Love" by The Cure. During this scene, they play the cover version from the lead singer of Alien Ant Farm.

Question: Does anyone know why Lucy's father, Marlin, took pictures of the mural she painted before he and Doug painted over it with white paint in preparation for the following day? I can't think of any reason he would document that because Lucy was going to paint it again anyways.

Answer: Why wouldn't he want to preserve a record of all his daughter's art works whether she painted over them or not?

Myridon

Answer: Because she draws something different every day and he wants to keep each one in some way.

Question: I know that the condition Lucy suffers from in the movie does not really exist. But what about the condition suffered by 10-second Tom, who loses his memory every 10 seconds. Does that condition really exist?

SAZOO1975

Answer: Yes it is called anterograde amnesia.

Answer: You might be interested in reading this. Clive Wearing looses his memory after 7 seconds https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clive_Wearing.

Chosen answer: Nope. A variation of the conditions exists. The memories are lost to be replaced by more recent ones, instead of a complete "reset" at the end of a consistent cycle.

Phixius

Answer: Actually, there is a British woman named Michelle Philpots, whose story might have inspired the movie. She was in a motorbike accident and later, a car accident. She wakes up every day and believes that she is still in the year 1994. Unlike the Lucy character, however, she can unexpectedly forget things during the day, instead of being "reset" over night.

Question: Maybe I missed something, but why has Henry never met Lucy before? She's been coming to the diner everyday for a while when the movie takes place and everyone else seems to know about her, so why is he just noticing her now?

Answer: Henry never went to the diner before his boat broke down. It was his first time in the diner, so that's why he never met Lucy before that day.

moviemogul

Answer: You can hear Henry say, "the boat has never gone that far" at the beginning. So maybe he's never been to that part of the place before.

Question: I am trying to discover what Henry's boat actually is. Obviously a yacht, but the stern is unusual and I have yet to identify it.

Answer: It's a Formosa 51 ketch.

Question: Why is it that on the first day Adam Sandler sees Lucy and she makes a teepee and all the other days she makes a house?

Answer: She makes different waffle buildings each day. It depends on her mood.

Timothy Cheseborough

Question: Why has '10-second Tom' never introduced himself to the doctor in the clinic? After all, he was taken to the hospital after the accident, so his memory already lasted only 10 seconds. How could he remember who the doctor is?

Answer: The doctor is standing to the side of Tom while everyone else was in front of him, and proceeded with introducing himself to them first. So he most likely didn't see him in time to acknowledge him every ten second. Plus the only time he does acknowledge the doctor is there is when the doctor says something.

Question: Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the "island" sound versions of the various songs played throughout the movie? (like somewhere over the rainbow) I have the soundtrack, but it doesn't include all the songs.

angelus tumultuor

Chosen answer: A complete listing can be found on the IMDB page for the movie. Specifically if you're looking for "Over the Rainbow", that was performed by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0343660/soundtrack).

Ral0618

Question: Does anyone know what Lucy is saying when she is pretending that she doesn't speak English? This is the scene in the diner when Henry is trying to pick her up with the picture he drew of the fishermen on a boat.

Answer: She is speaking Chinese when this happens and is telling to him to go away using vulgar language.

Question: When Henry is doing his kidnapping gig to meet Lucy, he sees a car coming and says false alarm and sits up. The car has her dad and brother in it, and they tell him to come by the house when he's finished, and once there he says she only paints on days she meets him. She's there painting and singing. Based on how it unfolded, it seems that he hadn't yet met her that day, so what's that about? He's still wearing the same shirt so it's the same day. (00:44:23 - 00:45:28)

Answer: It was implied she was developing some memory retention, as she changed her daily routine with something new. The father and brother surmised this change was due to her meeting Henry. As a result, they gave him their blessing to continue seeing her as they hoped she would continue to improve.

Invader_Gir

Continuity mistake: The dark roots of Lucy's hair can be seen off and on throughout the movie. One day she will have dark roots, and the next day she won't.

Henry: Good. How's my temporal lobe looking there, Doc?
Dr. Keats: Don't worry. You're not gonna suffer any short term memory loss. But was your head shaped like an egg before she hit you?
Doug: Hey! Don't make fun of Henry, all right? It'th not hith fault hith head'th thaped like that.
Dr. Keats: Note the intense overreaciton. That's the 'roids talking.
