Inside Man picture

Question: After the robbery and once the dust settled (business was back-to-normal at the bank, etc.) why did the bank president not immediately go to open the safety deposit box and see what happened to its contents? He knew it was the target of the robbery. Reason would dictate that one of the first things he would have done would be to open the box and see what was there... Not leave it to the NYPD to open it and discover a mostly empty box except for the big ring, chewing gum and note.

Answer: The aforementioned answer fails to keep in mind he is the owner of the bank and could've have done this hours before the bank was opened and or hours after the bank was opened. Dalton spent 3 days behind the wall. Mr Case had a special fixer, and she had the mayor in her pocket. It is a reasonable assumption that a billionaire like Aruthur Case would be able to have the contents of his safety deposit box removed with little to no problem. One way is "yes Mr. Mayor I will be giving you a blank check for your reelection campaign." The issue is this was a major plot hole that almost ruined a otherwise great and well thought out movie.

Answer: Arthur Case did not want anyone to know about the safe deposit box or what was in it. In fact, the box's number had been left off the bank records. The police did not immediately know if anything had been stolen during the robbery. Case going to the bank to check on the box, would only have drawn attention to it. The contents, the diamonds, were a link to Case's criminal Nazi past that he wanted kept hidden. It was only by chance that Detective Frazier discovered the box and the clues that had been left inside it by Dalton Russell.

Brother Bear 2 picture

Question: This has been bugging me for a while. When Koda asks the spirits to change Kenai back into a human, they don't show up to change him until the next day. Why do they wait so long? (Other than to give Kenai time to chase after Koda and get the whole end of the movie going.)

Brad

Chosen answer: Probably for just that reason - they were waiting for the right moment to change Kenai back.

High School Musical picture

Question: Chad tries to discourage Troy from singing with the line, "If you sing in musicals, you're going to end up in my mom's refrigerator." Any clue as to what this means?

Answer: When Chad brings up Michael Crawford (the iconic Phantom in musical performances of Phantom of the Opera) he points out that Crawford's picture has never been on cereal (Wheaties) boxes like popular athletes. Chad says that his mom saw Phantom of the Opera on Broadway 27 times, and she put Crawford's picture "in" her refrigerator. So then Chad tells Troy that if he plays basketball his picture will end up on a cereal box, but if he sings in musicals his picture will only end up in his mom's (or anyone's) refrigerator. Apparently since Chad's mom was nuts about Michael Crawford, one of her "crazy diet ideas" was to put Crawford's picture in the fridge to help her stick to her diet.

Babel picture

Question: Why did the Japanese girl lie about her mother jumping off the balcony? She'd probably have gained the same amount of sympathy from the officer if she had told him about finding her mother after she had shot herself. And why doesn't the father look more surprised that she's naked? He just blinks and hugs her?

Answer: Chieko was traumatized by her mother's death (and feels a great need for physical contact and affection) (though she (mistakenly) manifests this in a sexual way...not too unusual in young disabled people). Her father seems to suffer from this same horrific loss, which means that they're both stuck in a kind of "loss-limbo" (unable to satisfy either's needs). On the balcony, the two holding hands suggests the beginning of the "breaking of the ice" between them. BTW, her nudity-in that scene-has no significance. This is just a father and his child. I wish the movie-makers had given us a clue about that damned note. Though the secrecy of it does kind've suggest that it reflects her intent to end her life...even as her mother did. Her appearance in the nude to the cop (which, on the face of it, seems very erotic) challenges us to remember that people exist on "different levels" or expressions (or "ego-states"). The main thing is that she's calling out for affection and being comforted.

Answer: It's obvious that this girl has quite serious psychological problems. Thus her erratic behavior, of which her father must also have some experience already.

Question: Were the writers/directors ignorant to cow/bull terminology and anatomy? Even if one agrees that "cow" can be used to refer to either sex, the male "cows" in this movie should not have utters.

Answer: This is a children's movie and is presented in a manner that will be understandable and familiar for the target audience.

Question: In the beginning of the movie, why were the hijackers shaving their chests and genital areas? Is this some kind of religious ritual?

Answer: Muslims are supposed to remove their pubic and armpit hair at least every 40 days. It is part of being clean and they would want to be as clean as possible while committing an act on behalf of their religion.

Brooke was pretending to be intrigued by the guy's story about his job and listening intently therefore she couldn't have been communicating with Addie by texting during the date and they couldn't have planned it ahead of time.

Answer: It's a common ploy to help a friend out of a bad blind date. They didn't need to plan it.

Borat picture

Question: What is the crazy church or religion that Borat goes to where people are running around the hall and talking in a strange language? What language are they talking in and why do they look so agressive? What's with all the running around with hands in the air?

pierpp

Chosen answer: This was the Mississippi United Pentecostal Church annual camp meeting of 2006. "The power of Jesus" compels many people to sing, dance, etc...as far as the weird language, it's known as "speaking in tongues" and is generally incoherent to the casual observer. The hands in the air is a symbol of someone literally "lifting" themselves and their hearts to Jesus in worship and prayer. It's all simply an expression of their faith and religious beliefs, nothing more.

Question: 1. Is it or is it not Robin Williams who does the voices of Ramon and Lovelace? I am seeing conflicting information on imbd.com that says that it was, in fact, Robin Williams. Then on the cast and crew page, it says that Dan Castellaneta did the voice of Ramon. What gives? 2. I heard something to the effect that the scene with the sea gull/albatross, who was voiced by Steve Irwin, was deleted because he had died before the movie was released. I also read/heard that he did the voice of one of the elephant seals, too. Which elephant seal was he? 3. And finally, in the "Boogie Wonderland" scene, the Hispanic penguins sing/rap something in Spanish. What are they saying?

freedomchild67

Chosen answer: 1. Check the end credits in the movie, both Lovelace and Ramon are voiced by Robin Williams. Dan Castellaneta did the voice in the Happy Feet video game. 2. It is true that there was a scene with Steve Irwin as a seagull that was taken out, it's on the DVD. He is the elephant seal that says something along the lines of "One day you're swimming, next day, fun food."

Silent Hill picture

Question: Why exactly does the radio in the movie (and the game) react with static when a monster approaches? I've never been able to figure this out.

Answer: It's either simply the same phenomenon explored in the film "White Noise," or it could be Dark Alessa warning them. She doesn't want the mother to be killed; but she does need to refine the mother's will, for the final conrontation with Christabella, with tests of emotional and physical endurance.

A Good Year picture

Question: At the beginning of the film Fanny is at her cafe and stops to look at a Van Gogh print above the cash register. The print has Provence printed on it in yellow. At the end of the film she looks at the print but that time there is nothing printed at the bottom of print. What does this mean?

Answer: I think the Van Gogh is really part of his buy-out package from the brokerage. This is the copy which was hanging on the boss' wall, but not the original which the boss kept in the vault.

More A Good Year questions

Chosen answer: I believe he may think that Combo is just joking with him in a way that he was earlier in the film when he talks about him being black.

Awesomo

In my opinion, I think that it is because Milky has started to understand the reason's for Combo's anger - that he is jealous of Milky's perfect family set - up. Milky laughs because he finds it absurd that jealousy is the reason behind Combo's increasing anger towards him in this scene and may have been behind his aggressive behaviours all along. It is almost child-like and perhaps Milky is aware that he looks like the better person in the situation. He knows Combo knows this too.

Flags of Our Fathers picture

Question: What exactly happened to Iggy? Are we ever supposed to know exactly how he died?

Answer: The movie insinuates that he was killed horribly but doesn't provide many details. Books about Iwo Jima have quotes from witnesses about what happened to him and they all say that he was very brutally tortured, including having his eyes cut out and his genitals removed and stuffed in his mouth. The book "Flags of Our Fathers" contains the following quote, "A few days later someone yelled that they'd found him. They called me over because I was a corpsman. The Japanese had pulled him underground and tortured him. His fingernails... his tongue... It was terrible. I've tried hard to forget all this.

The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause picture

Question: What ever happened to Bernard? He is non-existent in this movie and nobody seems to notice.

Answer: David Krumholtz (Benard) is busy on his show "Numb3rs" on CBS and is committed to that so he didn't return for The Santa Clause 3. I guess they could have explained his absence, but the filmakers decided not to. They simply promoted Curtis since he was in the 2nd movie.

Carl Missouri

Answer: He was on another show at the time, but was also 28 years old. And while he pushes the limits of being the childlike elf in the first two movies, he was most likely too old for the role in the third.
