The Ornithophobia Diffusion - S5-E9
Factual error: Sheldon is fearful of the bird on his windowsill, which he identifies as a blue jay. Blue Jays are not native to CA. The bird is actually a scrub jay. Sheldon would know this because of his lifetime fear of birds.
The Ornithophobia Diffusion - S5-E9
Continuity mistake: When Leonard and Penny are at the movie theater the same couple walks behind Leonard, twice.
The Flaming Spittoon Acquisition - S5-E10
Factual error: Sheldon and Amy have agreed to call each other "boyfriend" and "girlfriend." Sheldon suggests she should peruse the new relationship agreement while he sets up his notary stamp. As an agreement, both parties would sign. As a Notary, Sheldon would know that he could not notarize his own signature.
The Speckerman Recurrence - S5-E11
Character mistake: Throughout the show, Sheldon denounced his mother's religion and God. To the extreme. In this episode, he said, "More sense than God gave a mouse." He would never invoke God for any reason.
The Shiny Trinket Maneuver - S5-E12
Continuity mistake: Howard, Leonard and Raj play Jenga in a strange sort of way. Most notable is the playing order, 1. Howard, 2. Raj, 3. Raj, 4. Leonard, 5. Howard. When it's Leonard's turn he doesn't move any bricks, only pokes the tower and it's then Howard's turn. When its Raj's first turn he puts a brick on the top of the tower. When it's his turn again, the brick is gone and he puts a new one in its place.
The Shiny Trinket Maneuver - S5-E12
Character mistake: The bird that Sheldon is afraid of is referred to in the scene as a "Blue Jay." In fact, the bird is a Black-throated Magpie. A Blue Jay is a little smaller, has a shorter tail, does not have the darker plumage, and can be quite obnoxiously vocal.
The Recombination Hypothesis - S5-E13
Factual error: Leonard lies to Sheldon about his being over at Penny's at 3am by saying he went across the street to use the gas station bathroom. Sheldon refers to it as "The Colorado Boulevard Chevron." The address of their apartment building is 2311 N. Los Robles. Colorado Boulevard is five miles away. (Yes, it's a fantasy sequence, but even in Leonard's head, Sheldon's not likely to make a mistake like that). (00:15:45)
The Beta Test Initiation - S5-E14
Factual error: Penny picks up a hand gun, pulls back the slide to ensure the chamber is empty (which would discharge any round in the chamber too) and then releases it, leaving it closed. She then loads a magazine into the butt of the weapon and hands it to Leonard. He starts to smooch her and shoots himself in the foot. The gun could not have fired, because Penny would have to pull the slide all the way back and then release it again to load the first bullet. There couldn't have already been a bullet in the chamber, as the whole reason Penny pulled the slide back in the first place was to check just that.
The Beta Test Initiation - S5-E14
Character mistake: Sheldon says (during Fun With Flags) "But like the flag over Fort Sumter, I'm still here." The Sumter flag was lowered when the fort surrendered to the Confederates. The flag over Fort McHenry was never taken down despite the British bombardment and inspired Francis Scott Key to write the National Anthem about it. Whouldn't a vexologist know that?
Suggested correction: Sheldon is referring to the actual Fort Sumter flag, which still exists and is on display at the Fort Sumter museum.
Sheldon is not referring the actual flag (especially since if the actual flag is in a museum it's not still over Fort Sumter). Sheldon is referencing the line from The Star-Spangled Banner "our flag was still there." Key wrote The Star-Spangled Banner after seeing the flag over Fort McHenry was still there. The writers simply made a mistake and Sheldon the character would know which flag inspired the line. Incidentally, the actual Fort McHenry flag also still exists.
The Friendship Contraction - S5-E15
Character mistake: Sheldon told Leonard at lunch that they were no longer friends, only roommates but later that day, he told start moved up to ninth place on his friends list because he dropped someone (can't remember who) off his friends list). In actuality, it would've bumped him up to eighth place because he kicked Leonard off the list.
The Vacation Solution - S5-E16
Character mistake: In Amy's lab, when she is complaining to Sheldon how she gave him the simplest tasks, and that they're still not done, Sheldon replies with how Einstein failed math because he wasn't challenged, and that it is the same case with him. Einstein never failed math. Sheldon of all characters should know that.
The Rothman Disintegration - S5-E17
Continuity mistake: After Amy returns to the apartment for the Grease DVD and discovers Penny doesn't like the painting, she then exits the apartment with the painting and the DVD with her. When Amy says to Penny she doesn't need her pity, the DVD is placed above the hanging string of the painting. In the next shot, as she walks into the hallway, the DVD is suddenly almost half below the string.
The Werewolf Transformation - S5-E18
Continuity mistake: When Penny is giving Sheldon his haircut, she accidentally shaves the back of his head. The clippers are going from the bottom of Sheldon's hair, up to the top of his head. When Sheldon goes to leave the room, it can be seen only four or five inches from the back of his head have been shaved off.
The Werewolf Transformation - S5-E18
Character mistake: In S5-15, Sheldon is asking his friends to take him to SuperCuts. But in this episode, he goes to Mr. D'Onofrio's barber shop where he says he's gone to since he moved to CA, and he said D'Onofrio had his "haircut records."
The Transporter Malfunction - S5-E20
Continuity mistake: Sheldon opens his transporter box and takes out Mr. Spock, while making a big deal about it remaining mint in box, unopened. Later, he makes a big show of using an exacto knife to gently open the box with Spock in it.
The Hawking Excitation - S5-E21
Character mistake: The sign on Howard's laboratory door reads "RESTICTED area".
The Hawking Excitation - S5-E21
Continuity mistake: When Sheldon is trying to convince Howard to let him meet Stephen Hawking, Howard places a water bottle on the table he is sitting in front of. In the next shot, it appears in his hand again.
The Hawking Excitation - S5-E21
Continuity mistake: When Howard and Bernadette are in his bedroom, there is a bottle of Vitamin Water to Howard's left. In one of the shots, the bottle has completely vanished out of frame, but returns in the next shot.
The Hawking Excitation - S5-E21
Continuity mistake: Penny is talking to Sheldon in the laundry room and places a box of detergent on the machine. The side of the box is facing her. In the next shot, the box has turned to face her.
The Launch Acceleration - S5-E23
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Sheldon is scooping spaghetti onto his plate, he pauses with the spoon in the serving dish. Shot cuts to Amy and the spoon is still in the serving dish. When shot cuts back to Sheldon the spoon is being held over his plate. Shot cuts back to Amy and the spoon is back in the dish.
