Band or DJ? - S8-E13
Revealing mistake: When Jason Segal (Marshall) gets blasted in the face with confetti, you can see him squint his eyes in preparation for it.
Continuity mistake: Lily and Marshall mention that they've been using the same toothbrush ever since they've been together, but in the 14th episode of the 1st season, "Zip, Zip, Zip", Marshall and Lily are simultaneously brushing their teeth with a tooth brush each (before Ted and Victoria get home). (00:05:05)
Subway Wars - S6-E4
Revealing mistake: When Ted uses his laptop to get directions to the restaurant, Bing shows Los Angeles (where it's filmed) as their current location, instead of NY where the show is set. (00:02:15)
Suggested correction: Depending on the location settings on his laptop, they could be giving a false reading. My laptop shows I'm in Cardiff Wales while in fact I'm nowhere near.
The show was actually filmed on a film set in Los Angeles which is probably why the laptop says Los Angeles as the current location. This most probably slipped past the editing crew.
Revealing mistake: While showing the clip of Marshall streaking the first time, you can see thumbnails for videos of him streaking in New York. Those videos were created later that day and could not already be posted. One also shows a woman in yellow and appears to be a retake of the scene. (00:06:15)
Continuity mistake: Robin says in this episode that she never played team sports and was always a loner. However in a later episode, (The Prom episode) she mentions she missed her prom due to field hockey nationals.
Other mistake: When Marshall returns from Minnesota, he approaches Lily lying on the couch from the kitchen area rather than from the door, and Lily still acts surprised to see him, even when he was obviously already in the apartment with her.
Intervention - S4-E4
Continuity mistake: In this episode, both Ted and Marshall mention that Lucy, Stella's daughter, is 7 years old, when in the previous season (13th episode of 3rd season, Ten Sessions) Stella states: "I have a daughter. Her name is Lucy, she's 8." Did she grow younger?
Continuity mistake: In Ted's flashback where Barney's mysterious saboteur is talking to Lily, the girl has straight blonde hair. In episode 14, "The Bracket" where his saboteur was first introduced and she originally spoke to Lily, she had curly blonde hair in the same sequence.
Continuity mistake: Ted says that Marshall and he only ate jerky and drank Tantrum on their road trips. In 2-17 "Arrivederci, Fiero" however it's established that Marshall had a rule forbidding any kind of food or drink, even groceries, in his Fiero. (00:01:15)
Suggested correction: Marshall came up with the rule because of Lily and Robin. Before they met, in the era when Ted and Marshall had road trips, they would've had food and drinks.
Nope, the no food or drinks rule is because his brothers made him get 12 hot cups of coffee without lids and drive with them naked, and he got burnt. That was when he got the car, before he met Ted.
Farhampton - S8-E1
Character mistake: When Barney is telling his story to Quinn in a minute he says, "Ted and I stopped being friends, Ted got hit by a bus, we made up." Barney got hit by a bus, Ted got hit by another car. (00:12:10)
Continuity mistake: In this episode we learn that Barney doesn't know how to drive. But throughout the whole series there are reference that he actually does, such as: In 'Come On' (22nd episode 1st season) : Penelope says to Barney: "We had sex twice in your car." In 'Moving Day' (18th episode 2nd season) : Barney drives away with Ted's rental van. In 'The Bracket' (14th episode 3rd season) : Barney stole Holly's SUV as they were camping.
Suggested correction: This has been corrected before. Barney does not know how to drive at the time of the subway strike in 2005, but does learn how to drive at some point shortly after that. And it's not until Moving Day (the very episode after this) that we see Barney driving. He does not have to drive in Come On, he just has to own a car.
Other mistake: Robin says she burned the dinner because she mistook the temperature scale on the oven for Celsius. However a given temperature above -40 is always higher in Fahrenheit, so by assuming the oven to be labeled in Celsius she would have undercooked the food. For example: If the directions were to cook at 400°F, she would set it around 200°F (thinking the oven was Celsius.) If the instructions were to cook at 200°C, she would still set the oven to 200°F, undercooking the food in both cases.
Character mistake: Marshall's whole career focus is saving the environment, so it's a poorly written character choice that he buys plastic glasses to avoid a dish-washing feud, boasting that they can just throw them away. (00:20:10)
How I Met Everyone Else - S3-E5
Factual error: When Ted is talking about what Marshall told him after he met Lilly, the two boys are playing with Playstation 2 controllers. The scene takes place in 1996, and Playstation 2 didn't come out until 2000.
Intervention - S4-E4
Continuity mistake: After the gang gets to the bar around the end of the episode, Ted starts his speech about how they all need to move on. As he moves over to the booth, he tells the people sitting there to get out. You can see that the girl takes her phone with her, and there is no other phone anywhere on the table. A few seconds later, she comes back saying that she left her phone, and now the phone is visible on the table. (00:19:25)
Factual error: Day 22 and day 67 are both on Sundays, which does not add up.
Matchmaker - S1-E7
Continuity mistake: When Marshall comes out of his room with the book about the Roswell Incident, he's holding the cover and first pages bent under the book, next shot he's just holding them normally, then they're bent again. (00:14:30)
Moving Day - S2-E18
Visible crew/equipment: When Barney falls over in the truck, as he is lying on the floor you can see his mic on the back of his trousers and a wire connected to it. (00:16:35)
Visible crew/equipment: When Marshall runs through the smoke towards The Limo, you can see the fog machine in front of Barney's head used to create the "smoke" effect. (00:17:40)
Suggested correction: Many people buy another toothbrush to take on trips and since they were supposed to be going away, they probably decided to use them at home, as if this was their trip.
The whole point of the mistake is they say they have always shared a toothbrush. So why would they use separate on a trip?
