The X-Files

Pilot - S1-E1

Continuity mistake: Mulder says that his sister “just disappeared from her bed one night” which is not true, because later visualizations of that moment show that Samantha was abducted while she and Mulder were playing a game and watching TV. (00:26:30)

Three of a Kind - S6-E20

Continuity mistake: When Frohike plays the slot machine, the first position on the reel shows a single bar. After Byers spots Suzanne, the camera goes back to Frohike and the first position now is not a single bar. There wouldn't have been enough time between the shots for Frohike to have another pull of the machine. (00:10:15)

Emily (2) - S5-E7

Continuity mistake: Mulder says that Scully was abducted and missing for four weeks. In "Duane Barry," the date stamp is given as August, then in "3," when Mulder returns to the X-Files office he turns the calendar all the way to November. Since Scully is returned the next episode after this, she must have been missing for at least 3 months, not 1. (00:06:20)

Soft Light - S2-E23

Continuity mistake: After the meeting with Dr. Davey, we cut to Mulder sitting in the train station trying to figure out what Dr. Banton was doing in the video. We see an overhead shot of the station, which shows a column in the far distance. Watch carefully: the shot never loses sight of the column, and you can see random passersby walk towards the column, but NO Scully. As the camera moves downwards to focus on Mulder in the foreground, Scully suddenly appears from behind the column, as if she had been walking towards it all this while. Obviously, she had been standing behind the column until her cue to come out. (00:19:45)

731 (2) - S3-E10

Continuity mistake: If you watch closely you can see that Mulder runs the key card through the door scanner the wrong way, scanning nothing but plastic. (00:25:40)

Requiem - S7-E22

Continuity mistake: In this episode, both Mulder and Scully say that the last time they were in Oregon was 7 years ago. A previous episode this season dealt with the Millennium, so we know this episode took place in 2000. So seven years ago would be 1993, the year the show first aired. But in the Pilot episode, the corner of the screen reads their location in Oregon and March 7, 1992. 8 years ago. (00:08:20)

Miracle Man - S1-E18

Continuity mistake: In the establishing shot of the courthouse the subtitle reads "Kenwood County Courthouse" but you can read on the building that it is the "DeKalb County Courthouse". (00:15:15)

Mind's Eye - S5-E16

Continuity mistake: At The End of this episode when Mulder is talking to Marty through her jail cell, the position of their hands change. In one shot, Mulder's hand is covering hers, and in the next, each of their hands are gripping the cell bars. This goes back and forth a few times. (00:43:00)

Christmas Carol (1) - S5-E6

Continuity mistake: The toxicology report lists the birth date of Mrs. Sim as 6/6/67 which would make her 30, but Detective Kresge says that she is 40 years of age. (00:03:45 - 00:14:10)

The X-Files mistake picture

Eve - S1-E11

Continuity mistake: We see Cindy and Teena at the table talking with Eve 7, drinking out of paper cups. Later on, when Mulder picks up a cup from the table, it's made of glass. (00:30:40 - 00:34:30)

The Pine Bluff Variant - S5-E18

Continuity mistake: When the bank manager goes to open the door for the brinks truck containing the robbers, the clock on the wall reads 9:45. When the robbers are taking him back to the vault, a couple of shots of the skull-masked robber shows the clock reading about 9:43.

Grotesque - S3-E14

Continuity mistake: When Scully and Mulder first visit John Mostow he says that he drew all the pictures of Gargoyles, which would have been a pretty good act considering he was in a strait jacket and would not have been allowed to have paper and drawing materials anyway. (00:07:30)

The X-Files mistake picture

The Calusari - S2-E21

Continuity mistake: When the dad is offering the son some ice cream, the cone he offers is a single scoop. In the next shot, as the son takes it, it is now a double scoop. In addition, the scoops change from single to double and back and forth in the next few shots.

Paper Clip (3) - S3-E2

Visible crew/equipment: When Mulder and Scully enter the abandoned mine through a doorway, the viewer can see at right in the distance a number of people sitting on a wall, and one crouching in front of the wall with what looks like a dog. They are sitting still, but there is still movement there. (00:16:00)

Trust No 1 - S9-E6

Question: After blowing up the car, when the NSA guy answers Scully's question, "How the hell do you know my size?" he says, "I know the name of your college boyfriend, your true hair colour, your ATM PIN number." This strongly suggests that red is not her true colour. Therefore, my question is: What is the true colour of Scully's hair?

Answer: He was being facetious. He doesn't specifically know that information, he was merely giving examples of the types of information he has access to.

I think so too.

Answer: Actress Gillian Anderson's natural hair color is strawberry blonde, which she dyed fiery red. (Although in the revival of the show she wears a wig).

The question does not concern Gillian Anderson's true hair colour-it concerns Agent Dana Scully's true hair colour.
