Day 6: 6:00 AM - 7:00 AM - S6-E1
Trivia: Stephen Merchant, co-creator of "The Office" (original UK version) makes a cameo as a CTU worker who Nadia Yassir hands a document to. Merchant's co-creator/star, Ricky Gervais, also filmed a cameo as a presidential aide, but was eventually cut; Gervais' cameo is located in the deleted scenes on the DVD box set. (00:07:05)
Trivia: Wayne Palmer was the first president who was actually seen in the Oval Office during his term in office.
Trivia: On the DVD, the writers revealed that they originally planned for a subplot regarding Josh Bauer's paternity. Originally the idea was that he would turn out to be Jack's son, but this idea was later changed into him being Philip Bauer's son. This idea wasn't scrapped until they wrote the final episode of the season. Philip Bauer was going to reveal the truth to Josh at the oil rig, but the idea was abandoned because it would add too much drama to an already dramatic situation.
Trivia: In Series 6 (Day 6), Eddie Izzard was originally cast as Darren McCarthy, but only filmed for one day and then pulled out due to a 'scheduling conflict'.
Trivia: Kiefer Sutherland's father Donald was approached to play Philip Bauer, but he was already committed to another project. He was also allegedly put off by the idea of playing a father attempting to kill his own son.
Trivia: Although she's credited as a main cast member, Regina King only appears in nine of the season's twenty-four episodes, which is fewer than some of the season's guest stars.
Trivia: With the 12,000 people killed in the nuclear blast, in addition to the hundreds of casualties from the previous 11 weeks, Abu Fayed is the show's most successful mass murderer.
Chosen answer: Nobody knew, not even the writers, until at least halfway through the season when they were writing the end. They wanted to keep all options open.
