The One With Rachel's Assistant - S7-E4

Question: At the start of the episode we see the end of Joey's appalling show, listing the executive producers as Colleen Mahan, Eric Goldberg, and Missy Krehbiel. Missy Krehbiel is assistant to David Crane, Friends writer/producer/creator, etc. Anyone know who the others are and what their link to the show is?

Jon Sandys

Chosen answer: Colleen Mahan and Eric Goldberg also work on the show they are assistants to Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane.

Answer: The woman who wanted Monica's wedding dress from the blow-out sale retaliated by booking the Swing Kings for the same day as Monica and Chandler's wedding. She would only let Monica have the band if Monica agreed to give up the dress. Monica honored the agreement to ensure that Chandler got his favorite band for the reception - if she'd kept the dress after booking the band, the deplorable woman would have retaliated in some other way. Monica simply found another dress.

Answer: The first answer is 100% correct, but in S8 E1, the band they actually have at the wedding is called ‘Jungle Swing'.

If you haven't yet, you should totally submit this as a Mistake / Plot Inconsistency. Nice catch.

Answer: No reason, it's just there to add a quirky detail to the apartment. It has nothing to do with the plot.

The One With Rachel's Assistant - S7-E4

Question: A guy sits in the chair by the couch in Central Perk and Chandler just says "no no no no" and asks him to leave. Is it just some random extra, or someone from the cast/crew/a fan? Seems like a part they'd get someone "special" to play. [I get the point of the joke, I'm wondering specifically about the casting of this part!]

Answer: It was just a random extra, who auditioned who the part.

The One With Monica and Chandler's Wedding, Part 1 - S7-E23

Question: Chandler disappears and leaves a note. Monica doesn't know about this. In the same episode, it turns to morning. Phoebe and Rachel are sitting in their morning-robes, after Rachel tells Phoebe that Ross hasn't seen or heard from Chandler. Monica comes out of her bedroom and she says "I'm getting married today!", still not aware of the fact that Chandler hasn't come home. Ross also says later (in the next episode, I think) that he has been looking for him almost all night. So why hasn't Monica noticed that Chandler never came home?

Answer: It's traditional for the bride and groom not to see each other before their wedding day. Chandler and Monica did not intend to spend the night together.

Answer: It's a reference to Harry Chapin's 1974 song of that name, about an inconsiderate father too busy too spend time with his son. The son then treats his father the same way later in life. Ugly Kid Joe also had a hit with a cover version in 1993. See http://www.birdsnest.com/catcrad.htm.

The One With Ross and Monica's Cousin - S7-E19

Question: I'm assuming in this episode that the problem with Joey is that he is circumcised and the role calls for an uncircumcised one. My question is, why don't they ever say the word in this episode? When Joey and Monica talk about it they skirt around it, would the censors really have such a problem with it?

Answer: It's a fairly standard humourous device to not actually name the thing you're talking about, especially when it relates to something a little risque. Also note that during the whole show, Joey tends to avoid talking about such intimate subjects with anyone but particularly the girls. Avoiding the word is just one way of reducing the embarrassment.

tw_stuart

Answer: He's a coffee shop customer in "The One With Ross's Library Book".

LuMaria 1

Answer: He just used the name as a joke, since she was very excited and "knowledgeable" about bribing the waiter. Somewhat of a throw-back to the old mob days in New York.

Ral0618

It is a reference to Grace O'Malley, an Irish pirate. Here's the story: https://www.libraryireland.com/HealyEssays/Grania4.php.

Answer: It's from s06e23, "The One With The Ring." Chandler and Phoebe are at a jewelry store and Phoebe tried to run after a guy while still holding store property, which caused the door to lock and the metal gate to come down.

The One Where Rosita Dies - S7-E13

Question: When Phoebe meets Earl she says that her mothers name was "Pearl", but every other time Phoebe's mothers name is mentioned her name is "Lilly". Is Phoebe trying to relate her life more to Earl's? Or is this just a mistake?

Answer: Phoebe rushed to Earl's office to talk him out of killing himself. She told him about her own mother's suicide and deliberately lied that Lily's name was "Pearl" (rhyming with Earl) hoping to establish a personal connection with him. She stumbles a bit on the name, saying P-earl, as she makes it up "on the fly."

Answer: The woman was just a random family friend or Geller relative invited to the rehearsal dinner. Because the woman was in a black outfit, Rachel mistook her for Chandler's dad (played by Kathleen Turner), who Monica had described as wearing a black dress. The character, named Amanda, is merely a plot device to set up a humorous bit where Rachel messes up and embarrasses herself.
